    The comments about the "handedness" of the rotors have absolutely no basis in reality and show a fundamental lack of understanding about rotor design. The only time directionality of the rotors matters is if there are curved cooling vanes, as the direction of rotation does impact how air flows through them. For cross-drill holes or slots, the direction does not matter at all. Holes are intended to allow for gas and particles between the pad and rotor to escape that theoretically could reduce braking performance. It doesn't matter what the pattern of the holes (or direction of the pattern overall) looks like at all. The efficacy of those rotors is questionable anyway, as it is only put on cars like this for aesthetics, not performance. A solid rotor would work just as well for a car like this. Anyway, no one's ever warped a rotor because of the direction of the cross-drilling pattern direction, they warp them because the rotor simply wasn't up to snuff for the load being put on them.

    The drilled discs and there positions don’t have any effect on cooling , it’s the veins inside the discs that aid cooling .

    I had a late 2017 RS3 and the car is all about the engine. Point to point on an a or B road you’d be hard pressed to find many cars faster. I will say that all the packs Audi have put on this are a waste of money. The ‘standard’ audio you get in the RS3 is superb, the interior is excellent and you get loads on it as standard. The extra touches like black packs etc are a waste of money. The engine is the whole point to the car though. Day to day it’s very comfortable too and IMO the standard suspension is tuned brilliantly and gives you one less thing to faff around with. I essentially had mine in either comfort or individual (engine Dynamic, Exhaust dynamic, Quattro dynamic, suspension comfort, steering comfort) as well 90% of the time.
    Good review. I’d say you’ve not even touched the boundaries of speed through corners but at least you are sensible enough to go steady cornering because the speed these things go can get you in trouble.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paddles are live all the time but will stay manual for longer in the sportier modes (usually they switch back to auto after 20 secs or so but with the new shifter this has been changed). To switch back to auto, just hold right paddle for a second or so.

    Interior just not up to scratch for a car of this price. Had a good look at the S3 and RS3 before settling on an m340i - very pleased with my choice and not sure the rs3 will give much more useable performance on the road or be as comfortable a long distance cruiser

      Interior is absolutely fine, better than my AMG A45s that's for sure and I have 718 Cayman GTS and I don't feel like I am getting into something low rent when I drive my Audi. So, what did you expect, Audi to put the interior of an A6 in there? Had my new RS3 for a few weeks now, very impressed - comfortable on long drives, super fast when you want it to be and the traction is amazing - it's practical, even economical (had 37mpg from mine) and looks, fricking awesome in tango red with the carbon trim... for the money there's nothing that can touch it. Everywhere I go with it, people's head are turning!

      I agree but the BMW 3 ist a higher class car (it compares with the A4/S4/RS4). The RS 3 compares to nothing from BMW because BMW don't offer a 4-door sporty car in this class.
      M240i or the upcoming M2 are coupes, the competitor for the S3 ist the M135i xDrive.
      A new M1 would be the perfect competitor but BMW don't got plans to build this car 😄

      Ageism means the term is older or mature Andrew lol but yellow cars are the best and safer - I owned the same ‘87 Subaru Sherpa (Rex) as a student twice with 665 2 cylinder power in bright yellow and if I could find one now I’d still drive it - fully independent suspension gas shocks and 2 seats so avoided sales tax as a commercial vehicle in Oz so zero safety but throttle response was electric 0-30 hence the perfect city car

Now moved on to quattro S cars which are faster off the mark (than the non X-drive M cars) but the RWD i6 M cars will always be the absolute best as the total driving package. Great video, great car - although one I won't ever own. Economy-wise, it's deeply impressive to get that sort of mpg (not why people would buy one, but it makes owning one as a daily runner a bit more realistic) - it's actually more economical than my old Honda Accord (with 147 hp)! It probably is pretty close to a Mk7/7.5 R for economy too (although I've had my R Estate up to 44.7 mpg at one point, on a run from Wokingham to York - 43.3 for the whole trip to Inverness). On 17" wheels & narrow winter tyres though.
    I do agree that Audi really need to sort out the spec of that car - it's inexplicable why some of the options available elsewhere aren't available here.

      Thanks Tony. There are a lot of extras but very few interior trim options sadly which would help justify the price. It's a very multi-talented car so you could say £60k isn't too out the way. With new A3/S3/RS3, adaptive cruise is part if a pack and that pack means you get lane assist which means a round wheel. I found online Audi this is so the systems can tell when the driver's hands are on the wheel. So the question is do other Audi's have lane assist and a flat bottom wheel? They probably do because my Golf manages it just fine.

    how abut an RS3 vs RS5 comparison

  • @t5jerry
    @t5jerry 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    your right to be not "convinced" about bridgestone tires, i know i`m talking about 2 extremes here, but i used to have michelin all season tires fitted to my vw , and then i read reviews and all the "testers" said bridgestone all seasons were better, all i can say is Hollocks, these bridgestones are bloody awful in comparison to the michelin`s, once these are worn out, i`ll go back to michelins and stick with em, NOW, i wonder if you know anyone who could wear them out REALLY quickly damon me old mucker 😂😂😂😂

    • @Lucky8Bastard

      I absolut agree, the bridgestone tires on the RS 3 are really good.
      Audi is using Pirelli and Bridgestone on the new RS 3 (you can't choose which you want) and both are good but the Bridgestones work a little bit better on the RS 3.

    GR Yaris will leave both trailing

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Audi RS3 0-62 3.8 seconds - GR Yaris 0-62 5.5 seconds. Even if the GR is better around a corner it would be that much better to make up for the straight line performance deficit.

      @@volkswizard If you live on drag strips and the motorways, and wish to do silly speeds, then yes. On the rest of our bumpy damp B roaded UK the RS3 would struggle to hold station. For reference, I also run a R7.5 with Unicorn stage 2 tune - just short of 400hp. It’s totally wooden compared to the GR off of the motorways and smooth A roads. It’s the notion of being faster against the clock and on longer straights (R/RS3 etc) Vs being quicker everywhere else and ultimately from A-B (GR). Not even mentioning price delta to RS3. £70K is a lot for an engine .

    My Father enjoyed his 2018 RS3 until he sold the car in 2021. Ordered a Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo to replace the RS3 in June 2021 and the car arrives this week. However, the dealership ordered the wrong specification (first time that has happened ever to him). They’re allowing him to replace his order for a Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo instead meanwhile jumping the queue. Looks like he will be collecting that car with the specification that he wanted in May 2022 and in the meantime continues with his daily driver which is the TCR.

    This is where we fall down.. we're so blind to buy cars we just except the lack of extras
    from Audi.. now if everyone one knowing everyone else in Europe can get the stiching flat bottom stearing wheel etc said no and didn't rush out and buy the huge spec loss Audi would have had to give the uk the Same as the rest of Europe? if you go out and buy the sub spec car then why would'nt Audi take the piss out of you buyers????

    Why arent you making a statement video about how fucking expensive cars are now? I mean, for a gti clubsport, the starting price here in belgium is now 50.000 EURO! Is VW getting nuts? I will NEVER buy a golf for that kind of money, its outrageous. What is VW thinking? Its still just a golf! Starting price for a R golf is 56.000 euro, without 19 inch, without the performance pack, without the akrapovic..... If you tick those boxes you have a golf for about 61.000 euro!!!!! a golf!!! Was volkswagen not a people's car? Which people, the rich ones?
