    I think traditional mixers use kneading. The inside fins pull the crete up then drop it at the top where it kneads down and then repeats. I think this side mixing idea might not work well since it leaves areas where crete can hide and not mix. I think a better solution would be to just mount a mixing bucket in the deere bucket and spin it.

  • @infoanorexic

    In a pinch, you can lay your pre-mix in the forms dry. Wet it, screed, finish. Poke around it, here and there, to make sure you got it all wet. I ended up doing that when the mixer broke right after getting started. Put it down in two layers to make sure I didn't leave any dry spots, bottom a little wet, top slightly "stiff." It worked. Can't find any difference between the first section I did and the one I mixed in the forms
    Read about this in an Ag Shop textbook. Amazing how something you read (mainly out of boredom) in high school can come to your rescue nearly 40 years later.

    You are almost there. A machine similar to what you have created has been used for years in the plaster and stucco world. There is always a support on the far end that holds the screw at the bottom of the trough to achieve complete mixing. Make sure and leave enough room for the largest rocks you will be mixing so they don't cause the screw to bind.

    As a nerd that has followed AvE for a while now, one of many reasons being you talk like me and I don't mean the accent, I have to wonder, why do we do things at the same time. I don't mean specifically, I mean like inventors seem to pull that off all the time or you're thinking of something obscure and someone else has the same idea. I'm making concrete and one of the things is an extension to my garage so I can have space for my CNC that I'm going to build. I've been making concrete for the first time and I'm using a mixer.
    What I've found is going some water then sand and giving it a couple of mins to mix, then cement and get that to the right consistency which may require water -it probably should, then stone is the best way -for me and the mixer anyway. The major drawback with advice from me is that I have only been doing it 3 days. I tried all sorts of techniques including half at a time.
    Building 30 metres of fence, a fully formed building out of concrete (roof too and it isn't huge at 6 metres by 2.5) and a lot of other stuff with zero experience. I've done a lot of things with zero experience so I don't leave hesitation marks, no I tend to need to do major rework if I screw up :D

    When loading a concrete mixer always start with water/additives before adding your agregates. Else you'll have a big clump of solid dirt that won't mix with the water and you will have to shovel it out. But then again, I've never used a hydraulic cement mixer... Only puny 1/2hp ones.

  • @VentShop
    @VentShop 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It works better than hand mixing that stuff. A bearing on the other end would help a ton though. Just weld a shaft into the center of the spiral on the other end where you need it and off you go.
    Worked on a paving crew and the auger's for shifting the concrete around from one side to the other to keep the pan at the right level works on a similar fashion. Word to the wise, shift the bolts on the pump around the other way. No matter how well you clean that sucker some will get in the threads and you will be out there trying to use the bucket when the frozen vapor comes down in droves trying to torch the bolts off cause the threads are right screwed.... Ask me how I know.
    Anyway had an offer accepted on a house and might need a good mixer. Sidewalks are all shot and the driveway is dirt with a handful of gravel mixed in. Thinking concrete for the sidewalks but probably have asphalt laid over for the driveway but if I get a good deal on concrete that's the way to do it. Eventually gonna pour a foundation and slab for a garage and put an apartment above it. Gotta replace the roof on the house first though and make sure the angry pixies go where they belong... house was built around 1911 and the wiring is not something I trust.
