Olympics football gets good viewership numbers, a lot of neutrals who wouldn't otherwise care watch the Olympics tournament. From the sporting principle standpoint, I'd happily have futsal, beach soccer or even tekkball instead.
As a player, even if you know the coach is doing something contrary to the rules, you will either know and not quite understand or be quite about it because if you talk you're out of the team. We should not blame Players for decisions made by the coaches or the federation. In some sports, that spying is considered INTELLIGENCE, regardless of what the rules maybe. In Olympic Soccer or Olympic Sports SPYING = CHEATING. So culturally you have have played a sport as a kid where the coach of the other team spied on you, but you or your team protected yourselves from their spying. You considered that competing. You come to Soccer and as a player you don't have the information nor the time as a player to know that in the Olympics you don't spy on the other team until game time. You can spy during the game using your normal human capacity. That's it. The officials in your Federation are supposed to relay that information about spying = cheating to the coach etc... If they don't do it or if they intentionally conspire about it, then it is impossible for the Player to do anything about that except perhaps quit the team
