You guys should 1. watch the special in entirety. 2. watch him perform it at other venues. Would set a lot of this post correct with those simple steps.
It’s funny how this line of thinking has transition from people saying “it seems like the third scream was real.” To now having a whole story floating around about the lights being cut because of it. This has never been confirmed in any way and exists entirely as a rumor on the internet that has developed lol

Bo is a performance artist, he does write actual songs. But he also puts together a whole show around themes like mental health maturity and other social issues
Yea after watching this you have to watch All eyes on me by Bo It gives a great follow up to this mental health struggle while also being a fantastic song that won a Grammy last year or year before.
75 yr old guy here from Bo's area: Boston Mass. Saw his first video 3 years ago and experienced goose bumps and tears in same song. Never in my life has this happened. Watch new reactions to Bo, for last 3 years. I find your reactions the ones, I can't handle. Please stop having to look at what Bo is singing. Every syllable he says is perfect: since he started "My whole family" at 16 or 17 years age. I have never in my 75 years come across a talented as Bo: writing, singing, piano, guitar etc. I know you love Bo, but every one of your reaction aggravates me.
I would like to say that I think Bo is making a comparison between him & Kanye's mental health while still trying to do it in a comedic way, however Bo ended up having a REAL break down and anxiety attack while performing this on stage during THIS performance. I think Bo dealt with his issues in a much more healthy way,but I also see his point that fame can make anyone have a mental break or anxiety attack under the right set of circumstances and that he kinda understands why Kanye acts so erratic and crazy...he has been there too.however, again,Bo handles his issues in a more constructive way that brings awareness and light to the subject of mental struggles, whereas Kanye tends to go off the deep end with no positive outcome or with more negative consequences. Bo is not only clever but very intelligent and creative in the way he approaches tough subjects.you should watch his live performance of Left brain,Right brain...its fantastic and very well done!! Thank you for reacting to this.🎶🔥✌
God this performance breaks me every time I hear it. I've spent a neurodivergent lifetime with mental health issues (the childhood and early adult abuse didn't help) so I feel this performance stab through me once he gets to the "but my biggest problem's you" part. The brutal honesty in it rips me apart, the gutteral screams catch my breath and the "I hope you're happy" at the end is the 1-2-KO punch. It breaks my heart because I understand on some level... though I never had the balls to get on stage (I sing). I had one panic attack on stage as a child and I never did another solo performance. Side from being brilliant, this man has balls. Once he figures himself out fully and accepts it for whatever it is, he'll have his true freedom to be whatever he wants to be without having the constant worry about things that really shouldn't matter. He'll figure it out. Both he and my son are very clever.
"I hope I can give you something, I can not give myself"... "I hope you're happy" after autotuning a mental breakdown, Bo is somethin' else. It should be taken as a parody on the surface but underneath that you can tell he's hurting. Or at least he was, hopefully he's doin' better now...
It is also a remarkable comment on Kanye. Bo starts by making fun of Kanye, and inviting us in on the joke, but the coda to the song kind of demonstrates an understanding, a kinship, with Kanye's mental health struggles.
he stopped performing and disappeared for 5 years after this special. Then came back during the pandemic to release one of the best comedy albums/specials ever made...
I am 57 seconds in to watching this, I've been down a rabbit hole of Bo all day, and I have to say ONE thing before I hear this amazing song for the 3rd dozen time....your talking voice is awesome to listen to then. Thanks! Now back to the show!
our unconscious mind speaks, it seeps into our ideas, the words we select, our moods…sometimes even during a parody the unconscious decides it’s a good idea to push all the anxiety out, during a performance…because the mind doesn’t know he’s performing, the mind thinks his mood and words are about himself.
Alot of people think- and I do too- that when he says “I hope you’re happy.” it’s followed, silently, by a “Because I’m sure not.” I genuinely don’t know how to describe it. He autotuned a breakdown. He did so much.
the problem is that if you make the diameter of pringles cans larger, you leave too much space around the pringles, which will now bounce around and crack in transit. also mental health
In case no one mentioned it yet. the pringles can song was a metaphor for live. how you want to get everything out of live but you can´t and the daughter is the attempt to fulfill your hopes and dreams in proxy for you.
Bo Burnham is one of the deepest and most honest comedians to ever exist. This is made extremely evident many times in his acts, but most evident by the line " come and watch the skinny kid with a steadily declining mental health and laugh as he attempts to give you what he cannot give himself". Dude is a legend already.
The burrito is his showbis life, the burrito expert is all the people who should have told him that his life would be a mess while they knew how it goes in this trade. He didn't know how this work would f him up and feels like if someone had warned him he wouldn't "have got the letuce"
I would love to see a reaction or just a comment from someone who was actually at this show. I wonder how I would feel if I went to a comedy show and I heard this at the end....😮
This was only three weeks ago so it may not be insane of me to recommend you listen to/watch left brain right brain, if you haven’t already. Probably my favorite as I have literally had my left and right brain severed surgically.😂
A huge piece of context about this is that after this performance, he went on hiatus for a few years. As he’d later go on to talk about, he quit comedy for a bit because his anxiety got so bad he was literally having panic attacks on-stage. For a while, he was getting better, but then right as he wanted to get back into things the pandemic hit and he was trapped inside with his own thoughts for a while. This led him to create the Netflix special Inside, which is a look into his mental state over the course of its filming and probably one of my favorite comedy specials ever.
if you truly have anxiety you can hear the shakiness in his voice. cant believe they clapped after he opened himself up like that. they just dont get him.
After opening up like that, it would have hurt much more to walk off in silence. I'm speaking as a performing musician that also suffered from anxiety and panic attacks on stage occasionally. The applause doesn't really help in that case, but the silence would be horrible, imo.
I feel like the audience absolutely got it and applauded the art and the bravery and as a show of gratitude... It's not like they laughed after he got real
I still want to like Kanye and root for him, but it's getting harder. Something him and Bo definitely have in common is a lot of fame and talent that they were both unprepared for. I'd say Bo is maybe handling it a little more healthily because he got help...no threatening his ex's new bfs or possitive words for infamous german dictators at least.
Hold up, I take more issue with the people who order burritos. working at a Qdoba the people getting burritos even though they can see you making it they still don't comprehend all the stuff they are putting in it until we get to the wrapping part. I'll put as much stuff in your burrito as you want after that it's on you.
Never heard Kanye, but I imagine this is what he sounds like ranting. The singing/talking was pretty amazing though regardless of it being nonsense. Though yeah, autotune has come and gone.
Did you spend most of the video looking sideways at the lyrics for a "song" where every word is so clear no such thing is needed, missing out on a lot of visual stuff going on? Spoiling every punchline for yourself like you're reading the transcript to a standup routine before watching it, lol
@@jhoop842 I really like this channel but this was actually hard to watch, which is a shame since it's such a good act he's reacting to. He should seriously stop having the lyrics tab open unless it becomes blatantly obvious that it's incomprehensible by ear, it's a fucking disrespect.
The Pringles are an analogy of him reaching for success but not being able to, so it winds up as a bunch of crumbs hitting him in the face. (Pringle "can" = "can't" handle this.) The burrito is an analogy of him trying to be successful but ending up making a mess, and he wouldn't have gotten half of it if he knew it wouldn't fit.
@@jhoop842 it is funny, it does work and he did say it, it's the contrast between his act and him being real that makes the second half more impactful imo, that's why he says "I can sit here and pretend like my biggest problems are Pringle cans and burritos"
He did say that the metaphors were unintentional, they were just meant to be funny. Thats why it works imo; humor is one of the best ways to get an audience to feel what you want them to - they're not expecting something serious so when they're caught off guard it's more impactful. Plus, maybe this is just me, but I feel like them being metaphors would take away from what the song is. Nothing's overthought, it's just Bo being real, talking about how he feels, nothing more nothing less
Sad how youre too old to be able to comprehend or react to mental health deteriorating right in front of you. Its not your fault its more of the decade we grow up in that determines our mindset.
This whole song is a giant analogy for dealing with fame and success....pure brilliance
He's an absolute genius.
No it isn't. He's on record saying it's literally just about Pringles and burritos.
@@ThrillhoWiggum Yeah it just happens to fit it perfectly
@@ThrillhoWiggumno it's true, you bought the real joke
That third scream at the end, wasn't planned. It actually scared the people in the back. It's such a gutteral scream too.
@@h.kaiser3502 I know. The First two were planned. The Last one wasn't.

I have watched this video of Bo like 20 times and I still die laughing every time.
"We think we know you". Is also amazing
That last scream was him having a panic attack and actually screaming. wasnt scripted. gives me chills every time i hear it

Bo Burnham - Words, Words, Words
Is very bar heavy.

The Baritto is a metaphor for fame. He wouldn't have done half of it if he had known what it would entail.
Except Bo said that was just silliness and not intentional
"I hope you're happy" has more than one meaning

Mitch Hedberg would like the Pringles jokes.

More Bo Burnham, yes :) Do the Country song next, it is a nice comparison :)
