- In this episode I've combined all the footage from the epic mangrove jack video and all the footage and events leading up to the capture. This is more like my usual edits telling a story and showing all the other cool stuff that happened during this session. Yes you'll see some footage you've already seen before but it is edited a little bit differently and is still epic to watch so kick back and enjoy.

Na feed by fresh run in from another lake and covered in the floods periodically.

I dove one back in the day saw massive jacks a spooked a grouper from under a concrete drain that scared the shit out of me. That was the last time I did it.

I'm going to go and scope out some creeks down from Lake Manchester and around Kholo tomorrow and wouldn't mind any tips that aren't from 2010 fishing forum posts, if you or your mates have any to give.

All over the catchment mate. Make sure you get permission from the land holders first. I fish a couple properties near buy and they don’t like poachers mate.

At this stage I'm just going to fish near bridges where I can walk below the banks and can stay off private property (checking boundaries on Qld Globe).

I’d run 12-14lb leader on most stuff mate. Heavier on the jig but depends how big the fish are or what else you might encounter.

Oh man what a fish.....I thought your reel was going to catch on fire haha, but on the subject of reels, I see you were using those baitcaster type reels before you caught the Jack that sit overhead on the rod, I bought one of these things years ago in the days of Rex Hunt and Steve Stirling introduced them, they were the Shimano brand. I tried and bloody tried to work that thing and all i got was a bunch of grapes, i was placing my thumb on the spool to try and stop the over-run but it just quickly threw up a bunch of line at me....so my question Liam is, do you stop the reel dead making the lure hit the water at that spot or stop the run just before it hits the water...my timing is very off lol. Is there any advantage of using an overhead bait caster then a good spinning reel like the one you caught the Jack with?
You need to adjust the brakes inside the reel and adjust the cast control knob on the side then have your thumb ready to apply pressure during the cast and when the lure is close to the water.

Yeah but I’d never keep one out of a lake. Toxins can build up, just like in big reef fish.
