Yes, Fungus film on wood is normal for all drift wood. This usually last 1 week to 2 weeks. It doesn't affecting anything in the tank however its best practice to do water changes.
I have actually a couple aqueon rimless tanks, and have kept them for over a year already. They don't leak but I do notice the silicone on the cube being extremely thin so for one of my 14gallon tanks I added a layer of silicone on top of the original to ensure it wouldn't leak. Otherwise the others i haven't had any problems. If you are interested I will be having a resilicone a tank video coming out soon on giving your tank double durability.

Did the white fungus film appear on that spiderwood, and did it affect the plants attached to the wood?
