Air Mattress Repair Fuzzy Side and 5 Repair Tips

  • When you get a hole on the fuzzy side of an air mattress, a repair might seem impossible. In this video I will show you how to repair your air mattress, even on the fuzzy side! Most air mattresses have velour or "flocking" on the top side to keep bedding from sliding off and to prevent static electricity, this fuzz is very useful for these reasons. These little hairs do however prevent a vinyl patch from sticking! In this video I show my process for fixing a leak on an air mattress on the fuzzy side and I've included my method for how to find leaks and the best way to repair just about any vinyl inflatable, including an air mattress.
About four years ago, I found myself faced with a hole on the fuzzy side of a camping air mattress and the prospect of throwing it in the garbage prompted me to discover a method for repairing an air mattress with a hole on the velour side. I used this repair method successfully and I still use that air mattress when I camp in the bed of my truck (it's a Coleman single tall queen air mattress). Recently my double tall queen size Intex air mattress started leaking and once again the hole was on the top fuzzy side so I am once again going to show my air mattress repair method for the fuzzy side!

yeah, but yet another example of excellent marketing. I'm talking about the fuzzy, felt, fabric side. Spray soapy water on it and the fuzzy side breaks the bubbles tension and you see NO BUBBLES but like a paste of soap n water. Nobody has time to look for a microscopic hole, which is the case for me. Most people don't even have an extra spray bottle to even get started looking. But 5 gallons of soapy water would probably do the trick, so eventually, I will do such a thing, because I have spent too much on air mattresses, and I definitely need to do this if I don't wanna wake up on a half inflated air mattress. Probably the only and best video on this matter. +1

Thank you for this video. The puncture on my mattress is on the side, however. I don't know how it got there. I must have nicked the mattress at some point. Attempts to repair it have hitherto failed, but I shall keep trying.

I have a twin size fuzzy top mattress like that one. I have those fuzzy patches that came with it and was wondering how those go on. I don't have any directions with it anymore and I just kept the patches and apparently I didn't keep any directions and I found a very small hole along the crease where the pillow top meets the mattress at the very edge of the indent right there. I couldn't get the backing to peel off of the fuzzy patch so I'm assuming those take some sort of glue which I do not have. What I did is I took a pair of scissors and I scraped off the fuzziness like you did and I cleaned it up and put a regular patch on it and it's holding up nicely. How I got a hole on the top of the mattress is beyond me. Thanks for the tip of scraping off the fuzziness and just using a regular patch. This is just plastic material under the fuzzy after all.😊

Thanks for the kind comments. Making repairs in a seam is hard! I had a mattress with a tear/hole in a seam on the fuzzy side that I repaired with superglue gel. I added multiple layers over the course of an hour with the bed partially deflated. That repair held for two years before it finally failed. Good luck!

I just came across a used air mattress with a blow up long pillow I guess you call it. It's a tiny hole right in the indetion on pillow part. I'm guessing I'm gonna have to shave close as I possibly can around the indetion? I work at a junk yard a vehicle came in and had desent used things inside the vehicle I popped trunk and it was a air mattress inside looks brand new maybe used couple times. I cleaned it really good and disinfected it really good. Plugged it in found the hole it's very small. Thanks for the helpful tips!! I'll soon get the glue that you used and a patch to fix it.

How do you repair an entire seam on the fuzzy side?
I'm coming up with my own strategy for this particular issue
Cement glue works but only for a short period of time.
I'm pretty knowledgeable because I've been a handyman
But I'm looking to find permanent solution that's cost effective
    My idea thanks to you?
Scrape everything as gentle as possible! (Cement Gel Glue) Off as much as possible
    And the experimenting portion
    Use what you got
Cement Gel Glue and Paper cloth
I honestly wish I had a product like"Flex Seal" but sadly I do not
Let's see what happens and thank you for creating this video
I do think they're better solutions to my particular issue but that's something I'm currently trying to figure out
FYI - One of the seams on the fuzzy side bubble up but literally has no leaks!
But the seams that are not bubble up keep cracking and breaking
I do wish I had a particular "Flex Seal" product
I realize I need a product that can bend and move to accommodate for the for pressure of air everytime you inflate and deflate for storage purposes

    • @MrFredsDIY
      @MrFredsDIY  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

My guess is that this will probably not work. If the hole is not too big you can try using superglue gel. Fill the mattress 3/4 and slowly build up layers allowing it to dry between them. While this “fix” will nit be permanent, I have used this method to extend a mattress for several uses. Good luck!

I am not sure which patch I used but it lasted half way through our first week camping. It was in top. Did the fuzzy removal thing. Carefully applied and dries the patch.
The difference between this and similar videos is that the hole, now a quarter inch crack, is in a crease.. a valley of sorts, of a Coleman mattress with dips and high spots. Will try again and if it doesn't last, will have to toss a 100.00 plastic mattress into the land fill.
