I am in my 12th year of retirement with no wife, no kids and I do anything I want, for as long as I want any time day or night. Favorites are gourmet cooking, camping, kayaking and woodworking. Life is good but I paid my dues. Get out there and have fun!!!!

I’ve been knocked a little for voicing my “living in a van down by the river” retirement plan but dang that dream is still there.

People only knock nomadic living because they can't do it themselves. They are too scared or weak to go against what the government has taught their family freedom is. That and/or they have too many attachments to the material world and their ego.

My Husband and I seasonal camp. We know probably 50 other campers that do it all year. Live in their campers. Some summer camp here in Michigan and winter camp down south. Some are retired, some have jobs that require travel and they take the entire family with them. Some, like us, go home for the winter. Some sadly could not afford to have a home plus pay for medical needs. Even know some cancer patients that have outlived their life expectancy and they directly attribute it to lack of stress they have in their lives now. Hold on to the Dream Kevin! It’s a good one!

Hey man ! Greetings from the Missouri Ozarks !!! Your camping strategy is very similar to mine. I recently purchased a 1997, 15 passenger Ford van. I took out the bench seats and made it my camping rig. I build my camping experience around campfire cooking, fly fishing for trout, and just relaxing. At 67 years young, the best activity is the one with the least amount of work. (LOL). I follow You, Coyote Works, and Chad (Living the Van Life). All three of you guys embody my camping philosophy. Keep it up brother and thanks for letting me be a part of your adventures !

I love seeing the old pups. I wish I would have traveled and camped more with my last buddy. When I got my current dog I said I would not let this opportunity pass. He loves to hike, travel and camp. We’ve been to Colorado twice. We are headed to Moab in 10 days. Banff is on the list. Sedona. I want to take as many trips as I can take from Dallas since we are 12-25 hours from everywhere I want to go. We drive the Jeep and then sleep in the Jeep. We have a blast. I really miss my old buddy, but I love making memories with my new one. Love the videos.

Jason, thanks for another great video with the introduction of “the van”. One of the things I like about your channel is that when you find a piece of gear you like, you continue to use it in an everyday function. We’re excited in watching you build the van to your needs and not what other want. Lastly, your meals are beautiful and fun to watch. We’re all wanting to pull up a chair and grab a plate to join you, and a glass of Pendleton. Lastly, to take your breakfast of biscuits with sausage gravy to the next step, try scrambled eggs. All our best, Skillet

Beyond happy to have 'landed' on this amazing video/channel & your website. As a dog-lover, tugged at my heart when you lowered your pups from the van to ground & also have coffee named after them. No matter their age, they are always pups at heart.. .just a bit wiser. Thanks for sharing your journeys and for continued inspiration. Can't wait to get the heck out of TX and land up there! LOL

Always fun to watch your stuff! We’ve traveled, camped and hunted in vans for 38 years. Covered the west coast from the Klondike to San Diego. Best second vehicle on the planet. I’ve developed my own removable furnishings and find we can be quite comfortable. As we’ve gotten older, my wife needs a potty so I use it more for solo camping and we’ve purchased a small class c sprinter based rv. I will not be surprised if you find the trailer unnecessary. Happy “campvanning”.

Definite yes on the van! The Ford E350 is a great size to live in even sans the trailer. I have my eye on an older Uhaul van, not sure what the model number is. It's one of those that has the metal mesh grate behind the front seats. A van allows you so many options for customizing to fit your needs and desires. The only van I've ever owned was a '78 Dodge custom van with the convertible sofa bed in the rear, ice box, sink, tiny clothes closet and captain's chairs that swiveled towards the rear where I set up a poker/dining table. I camped throughout the Southwest. Sasquatch is a good name for an E350. I'm anxious to follow your build on it. Well done, Jason!

what is MANs fascination with Combustion ?
you can Generate Light with LED & Electricity, you can also make Heat with Electricity , and you can Cook with a Electric Kitchen.
why does MAN need to hold onto outdated Combustion ?
do yo know 500,000 of People die each year to Accidental Combustion ?
you are 100x more safer with Electric Heat than GAS.
which is why the City of Berkeley, CA has banned Combustion with GAS.

I've been driving vans for 38 years. Never had a 4x4 and have taken them in some crazy places. Posi-trac really makes a difference. The one I drive now for work is a pro-master front wheel drive. With your chains and good load distribution you'll be fine.
Now I'm thinking of trading the Jeep for an old van.

jeeze i really hate to be THAT guy....you know a mr. know it all, but the tire chain you showed the close up of, the chain was mounted with the wrong side out, i'm 71 y. o. and have lived in no. nv almost my whole life, so back in the olden days we would get lots of snow every winter, and i was always taught when mounting chains to BE SURE that the cross chains faced outward, so that the smooth part of the chain was against the tire sidewall and with the very end of the chain where they are hooked to the side chain faces outward. please correct me if i'm wrong.

Great video. Love snow camping! Glad you got the van. I’ve been working on my E350 for three years. You can take it nice and slow. Gave it 4WD and now it climbs trees! Now doing the interior. It’s a fun time and just keeps getting better. The best thing about it for a photographer is that all your gear is so accessible inside, nice and dry. I shoot from the open barn doors when I’m stalking wildlife. Keeps me warm and them not spooked. And my camera’s nice and dry, too. Have fun!

Great name for the van. I've named my Jeep JL "Squatch" as in Sasquatch. Glad to hear you're gonna keep both the Ford and Van. Like you, I've always wanted a Sportsmobile but, who's got 70 - 80 thousand dollars? Your videos are excellent and I find myself looking forward for each new one every week but, I was attracted to your TH-cam channel mostly because of photography. You seem to have strayed away from photography and lean more toward the camping/overlanding aspects. Nothing wrong with camping/overlanding (I'm gearing up for overlanding here in the outback of Nevada) but I liked your photography and hope you get more of it in the future. Thanks.

@Terry Long...you haven't checked the prices for a (new) Sportsmobile lately...they run way over $100K...which is crazy but, they have a waiting list over a year long so they must know what they are doing.

Ditch the trailer, having to turn it around on a trail could be a nightmare and it makes the van less capable. Those are really good tire chains but thy are installed incorrectly. Get a locker in the rear.

I in joyed the show every much. I Think the van is gonna be perfect yes you need to turn it in to a 4 /4 you have to be a pretty good mechanic to turn that into a four-wheel-drive . but you don’t look like the type of guy that would give up. Keep up the good work up I’ll be waiting for your next video🚐

Ken Uber what do you mean by a locker?

    • @ryanwolfe8638
      @ryanwolfe8638 4 ปีที่แล้ว

A locker in the rear only, especially if it is not selectable (e locker or ARB type) has a tendency to push the vehicle straight when making turns at intersections (snow covered roads). Without the front wheels working to drive the vehicle it is a pain in the ass. I know some throttle management can manage this to a point, but it is an issue to think about. I would not want a locker in a rear wheel drive vehicle that was not a selectable locker.
