    There's something so comfy about the soft glow coming from the inside of an old streetcar at night.

      Hi Rubycon, Agreed but, unfortunately, there aren't too many places you can experience it. Thanks for watching. Stay well. Cheers, tassiebaz.

    Thanks for sharing. This brought back so many memories from growing up in New Orleans during the 1950's through 1960's, and riding those street cars. Those were the days.

      Hi Samuel, Thanks for watching and for your comment. Those WERE the days, but at least the streetcars are still running in New Orleans unlike many other cities. Regards, tassiebaz.

    The sounds of these trolleys are just like the wooden L Cars of the CTA in Chicago that ran in the mid 1950s. In the 50s if you lived in Evanston by the L you'd be hearing these same sounds 24-7 when that line ran round the clock.

      Hi Albert, Thanks for watching and for your comment. New Orleans is one of the few places left where you can see and ride on the real thing. Cheers, tassiebaz. 😃

      @@tassiebaz The wooden CTA L CARS can still be ridden at the ILLINOIS RAILROAD MUSEUM in Union ILLINOIS. The inside lighting in these old cars is just like inside these New Orleans Trolleys. Lights black out in power gaps in both these trolleys and L cars. Wooden L Cars made their last runs on November 29 1957 on the Evanston L.

      @@tassiebaz These are definitely true streetcars! All the other trolleys are simply modernized light rail vehicles built out of the country and lack the nostalgia of the old time trolleys.

      @@albertcarello619 Thanks for that information. I love the older equipment but there just isn't much around in regular service. Have a look at my Dalian, China TH-cam for some New Orleans lookalikes. Cheers, tassiebaz.

      Called a trolley car. Not a train.

    Lovely memories of the uptown stop at Maple to walk down for coffee at P.J's little coffee bar. I believe it was Phyllis Jordans first little cafe, and she had the best coffee in New Orleans. It was next to a quality gift shop called Mariposa.

      Hi eXACTOcREATION, Thanks for watching the presentation. The St. Charles line runs in what appears to be a pretty good part of town. I walked the whole line to do the photography and never felt apprehensive. tassiebaz

    What is the difference between the red/yellow vs the military green? Is it the route it takes? I was there in 2019 and really want to ride one of these to observe the town but didn’t know the process of getting tickets or where it goes to. Needless to say, I did not take it because it. If I go back next time, I will take one.

      Hi Jupe367, Thanks for watching and for your question. The military green cars are used on the St. Charles line, which is the oldest continuously operating street railway system in the world, having opened in 1835. The current cars themselves were constructed in 1923-24. Each car operating on the line is a historic landmark. The red and yellow streetcars are replicas built in 1997 and later and used on other than the St. Charles line. One line is the Canal Streetcar Line, which originally operated from 1861 to 1964 and which was rebuilt and reopened in 2004. Another is the Riverfront Streetcar Line which opened October 14, 1988. Finally, the Rampart-St. Claude Streetcar Line opened on January 28, 2013.
      They are all interesting, but St. Charles is the classic line running through the Garden District and is the main subject of this video. During my last visit, they just used a farebox on the streetcar where you dropped some coins for a ride. Check out their website for current information. Stay well. Cheers, tassiebaz.

    Why is the headlight on in the back of the trolley? That's dumb.

    • @rickclark9377
      @rickclark9377 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cars are bi-directional. Headlight becomes taillight at the end of the line.

    Man things haven’t changed that much. I mean they opened the rampart line, then it got disabled due to an accident, then they reopened it. St. Charles looks the same though.
