...ah brings back memories from about 45 years ago. I used to ride the Streetcar to & from work every day between the turn at Carrolton & St Charles and Napoleon Ave ,(worked at BBQ place just to the west of the turn called Flamin' Burger, [likely long gone] and later managed a sub shop deli nearby). Ah, Tulane an Loyola Universities the latter with the "Touchdown Jesus" statue (had a couple friends doing premed studies there) and across St'. Charles, Audubon Park and the zoo. Lived in a nice old Spanish architecture Apartment building called he Bella Vista (less than a block off St Charles to the right). Hung out at Fat Harry's (we called it "Frat Harrys") on the corner. After work I'd often catch the streetcar home change and then head down to the Quarter for the evening Usual place there was Pat O Brien's travelling through the Garden district and around Lee Circle (with the Statue of the General defiantly facing the North - now gone as well). Back then the Streetcar and a few bus routes ran all night. Back when then there the transit system and streetcars were still operated by the Public Service utility, and fares were 15¢ I wonder if Takee Outee is still around (used to hit one of the ones the Quarter for a quick snack) Yeah a lot has appears to have changed along the old route. Thank you for the ride down memory lane.
The sounds of these trolleys reminds me of living in Evanston ILL. right by or near the L in the early to middle 1950s! You'd hear these roaring traction motors almost every 5-10 minutes 24 hours a day. Wooden L Cars and the 4000 SERIES L CARS all trolley pole equiped!

@@litlgrey Also the traction motors sound like CTA's 4000 SERIES L cars which seem to be more like old interurbans than L rapid transit cars both the Plushies as well as the Baldies Series.
Of course the red cars are the replicas with air conditioning, ADA accessible and modern instrumentation, however the green cars are the original trolleys with the original equipment and non ADA accessible. Of course they both are fun to ride.
Tampa has 9 replica Birney cars. Eight were built by Gomaco in 2000 (Cars 428-435), with the 9th one (Car 436) being built in 2005. They also have one 15 bench open style 'Breezer' car, also made by Gomaco.
I remember riding this train to Audubon Park when I was 4 years old. Siemens makes fabulous LRVs, naturally. But don't throw out these quaint, old, refurbished cars for the ultra-moderne. Would you raze the Vieux Carré, so you could erect a 70 story skyscraper, casting a shadow on St. Louis Cathedral? I hope not.
I'd love to see this, but I'm already "cringing" at this video. Look at the operator, going right to full series/parallel. Like they are nothing. Also powering straight through insulatiors. Not good for motors... And also kinda careless driving. Especially with this old girl... I'm sad
I just watched a "lve" nola.com video of the St Charles Streetcar ride. The operator was doing the same thing. Instead of ramping up to full speed she gang busted to cruise. She did slow down though getting near downtown.
Peter Buckley: Also the motorman seems to run the red lights going from orange to red. It's a miracle there's no collisions between trolleys and autos, trucks, motorcycles, and pedestrians!
@@nola305 Trolleys and streetcars: Can't they be considered one and the same thing!? Light Rail vehicles are another thing with much more modern technology.

Thankfully they've put back the canal line after it got torn up. I mean it's nice but I like the old cars more.
Lucky you! Got a car virtually by yourself!
What attractive streetcars!
That video made me homesick thanks loved it

Linda Nova Orleans. ❤👏👏👏
Wow!
The Camera person was on the wrong side
I'm not sure where the right side would be unless I was driving the streetcar myself
These cars sound like the old wooden L CARS of the CTA and also the CTA'S 4000 SERIES L CARS built 1914-1922-1923.
Ahhh I miss home 🏡
36:40 Encountering Popeye's "New Orleans Style" Chicken... IN New Orleans. That's actually either ironic or just funny. Or lame. One of them.
How is it any of them? Popeyes started here, technically in Arabi, but we definitely have Popeyes in New Orleans and we love it.

This video has been ruined by constant camera movement, zooming in and out, etc.

is someone doing coke
No, I think it's Pepsi! 🥤
Absolutely not. The charm is the older cars. And some of them are relatively new, just built to look heritage
Right on

I really feel like NORTA should move forward in time and purchase the new Siemens streetcar LRV.

For new lines in NOLA, especially a connection to the new airport terminal that would be great.
