Palmetto State Armory STG-44 Update Video- My Thoughts

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 15 ม.ค. 2024
- Palmetto State Armory just released an update video on the progress of their New Battlefield line up based on historical weapons. They first made announcements and showed off a concept at Shot Show last year. We hadn’t heard much from them but during this time they released other classic retro type rifles. It appears that they are innovative and know what the customer really wants. They are expecting a release date for the final product sometime in 2024. So in this update video, i have a few thoughts. What are you thinking so far with this update?

Correction: after reviewing the footage again, the Mags look like polymer, not metal.
Correction: Fulton Armory doesn’t “make” M1 Garands, they have a bunch of spare components and if you provide the receiver, they will get you a finished product.

I'll believe it when they actually release it.
They will I have no doubt
PSA will make it happen this year
Im sure they'll release it along side their MP5.... *crickets from the audience*
@@boltforward3611I don't know how many times this has to be said, but they canned that project due to the influx of cheap $1000 roach MP5s for Turkey.

WW2 reenactments are going to be awesome once those hit the market.
You'll have someone whining its not authentic...
If there's too many then yeah@@mikes4564
@@mikes4564 authentic in terms of the amount of them or how they look/operate? Because what I thought was towards the end of the war there was units outfitted with a couple of stg's not alot considering the end was near but enough to say that it happened. Also the same thing happened when the market was flooded with 1897 trench gun replicas they made rules to counter the flood especially in ww1 reenactments at least where I do it. Also I'd like to see someone complain it's not a good recreation. The original ones are near impossible to find and I doubt many collectors would trust an original stamped sheat metal gun to someone running a simulated combat operation. A gun that cost more than some cars
Problem, without a blank adapter, its for display only.
@@chris.3711well the originals I believe had a threaded barrel so you could do a ak-47 style blank adapter. I'm sure once they hit the market there will company's making kits for them within a year of release.
Palmetto did great here. Doesn’t save Mac’s reputation, but glad to see it’s finally coming along
If we can get repro FG42s and STGs, there’s hope for G43s 😍
There is. Look into DK productions… they teamed with Dietrich from Germany. We’re already getting 1:1 clones of mp40s from them.
There is a German firm that makes pretty much every WW2 German gun. Would be nice if such a firm popped up over here. 🤠
@@donwyoming1936it did DK productions
SMG in Texas already makes FG-42. It's great
Fibgers majorly crossed for the FG42!
Prvi from Serbia is making ammo. In the 90s, there were a lot of WW2 weapons circulating in parts of Africa. We were usually able to get new production ammo for work.
Yes I’ve seen PPU 8mm short. They make all kinds of ammo for other old guns as well
That MP40 is mighty tempting..
It’s so stupid that open-bolts are classified as NFA items.
@@ratgobbler if it’s semi automatic it should be a closed bolt … which might be a little more accurate

I want to love PSA but I can’t. They have not delivered on a lot of things.
@@crosisofborg5524 they are the best company in the business right now. Sure they don’t make Gucci shit but that’s just for showing off how much money you have anyway. They actually care about the customer and the right to bear arms. All of the other companies are just in it for the money.
@@crosisofborg5524 “a lot of things” MP5? The thing they can cancelled years ago because they said they couldn’t meet the price point they wanted?
I don't know if we'll ever see any more German made STG44s. The $5000+ price tag was a whopper. 🤠
Some of us still do ,sport systeme diettrich is the way to go but idk if they still export to US they had problems due import regulations
They'd still sell 10 million of them...
There's probably still several hundred more in caches and bunkers somewhere. They just found another a couple years ago in the middle east.
@@stonefox9124Any data with that? Or is that just a generlized statement?
There will be more probably next month, starting price of 6500
I’m sure the PSA gun will be way cheaper than the ones from Dietrich …. But the lines in the PSA lower are just way off
I own the 22 cal German version and the outside is identical to the original in appearance. The PSA version appears to look differently especially in the receiver area detail. That in my opinion
needs improvement for me to consider purchasing one.The prior models in the original caliber made in Germany are the benchmark for duplicating these firearms and the price reflected that.
They "inherited/adopted" a new/revamped take on producing a viable, cost effective/sellable take on the STG that significantly simplified its manufacture, particularly in the lower receiver. These take STANAG mags (Mag release "wrong side" in example), and use an "off the shelf" modern trigger packs (vs the 200+ parts comprising *just* the trigger and handgrip of the originals). Objective from inception was to make them affordable and practical. Not many would sell at 5 to 6 K$+, nor as 7.92 Kurtz only.
Yeah, looks just different enough to appear odd and ugly.
The Stg.44 was made to build really easy, fast and cheap. So it is interesting that PSA needed that long!!
Being cheap to manufacture for a massive nation state with billions of dollars in funding and factory infrastructure is not the same thing as being cheap to manufacture for a small private business machine shop in the United States.
@@EldritchMadnesseh wrong try again
when you have gigantic corporations with endless funding and manpower it is easy to come up with something. It still took them many years and versions before it came into full scale production. Reverse engineering something without original blueprints and machinery is not easy.
the og stg44's also had reliability and longevity issues, something modern buyers wouldn't want replicated
The Germans used metal lathes and steam powered presses to fabricate those.
Its 2024.. and a cell phone contains more computing power than was in the space shuttle.
But you're probably right, another example of how the Reich was hundreds of years ahead of their time.
Imagine how advanced we'd be had they won the war.

Damn, thanks for the update. Just as soon as I get all the bugs worked out. I’m getting one with the furniture.

Our anniversary is nxt month.. going to be a most romantic gift as we have bolth the GSG STG44 & MP40. yes they are not originals but they look great. Palmetto...your up nxt with these classic firearms.
I have both. Bought both because they look cool. Now they just sit idle. I should sell them. But they look too awesome. Something is wrong with me. But I got it out of my system. Won’t buy the PSA version. Unless they look cooler! Something definitely wrong with me. Eventually I’ll have a safe full,of barely functional nonsensical firearms to keep my Thompson contender 357 one shot company!
Hill and mac as well as PTR released a few stgs i believe its been yrs since anything’s hit the market definitely keeping my finger crossed 🤞🏻
Hill and Mac never got guns out of the door. They made one complete gun, and its the same gun PSA went to shot show with, they just laser engraved battlefield classic on
Erika starts to intensify.
Available in all 40 states ?
The trigger there.. looks plastic maybe @0:18 and maybe not a g3 upcycled part, though the safety of course still is. The grips look like some of the repro stg grips that are around, it doesnt quite follow the stamped metal housing contour there at the toe. The handguard.. im curious what they'll do with it. Stg handguards really heat up in sustained fire, and I wonder if they'll do a poly handguard with a heatshield or let it fly.
All the same! i think psa has promised something here that if they dont deliver may follow them around for a long time. Look forward to it, and will be holding out for 8mm kurz
I would definitely assumed they are going to go with a polymer handguard because of the heat factor
$1,500 is a very generous expectation for the price tag of something like this, on top of being extremely unlikely. An M1A with a polymer stock, not even proper walnut, is a $1,500 rifle at minimum these days.
I would set yourself up with the expectation of $2500, and if it's less, great! But don't set yourself up for disappointment with the thought that it will be anything less than two grand a piece for new production.
Yeah, 2k+
PSA is pretty good at releasing inexpensive guns and parts, even their in-house productions.
Yea makes sense… and plus they know the demand will be high
Maybe one of these days they’ll actually get it done fortunately I have the skills I made one over a year ago and it actually looks like an MP44 chambered in 5.56.
Good for you.crafts
Men still exist.
I’m just wondering what MRSP will be on the STG44?
If you have to ask....
Probably about 2 thousand because it’s higher than the HMG version
I’m guessing $3000ish. They said north of 2k and making a gun line this, without prior tooling, is a massive expense when you have R&D costs
@@UncleSam-7.62 that’s not bad it’s for a high end AR or AK they have parts kit RPK for around that much
@@mhsandifer Just wondering!
I just hope they have some better finish options that are closer to the original I'm assuming the finishes on the testing models aren't consistent due to them not being quite ready for production so they haven't bothered to do the finishing.
Yea but my guess is they will go with a cerekote and they are probably going to do all black like the concept. If they can achieve a good battle worn, phosphate look or even blued I think that many people might go for that.
Can't WAIT for ShotShow.
Usually junk end lf the world end times 1984 666. More and more junk every time. These guys bow like slaves man yellin, "yes master do my job follow orders"
Well if it makes it to market I'll be buying one as long as it doesn't cost what a good used car does.
I cannot wait I hope they make a ca complaint one so I can get it to the state
Get out of California
Its easier to move. But keep your commie rules over there
5.56 will most definitely be most popular cause ammo will be cheapest 7.62x39 is getting more expensive as the imports go away. 300BLK will also likely be more popular for mag compatibility and ballistics
I would expect a Sept/Oct release date right before the Holidays. 7.62x39 will be by far the most popular. You can still find some 8mm kurz ammo but its usually East German surplus OR some new made PPU but the specs are not all the same which causes issues. Original German ammo/boxes are worth so much due to collectability unless you bought stashes of it before Reagan's presidency you are SOL. The SSD ones brought in are absolute junk and very expensive. Purists and maybe some hardcore reenactors would be the only ones wanting to get the 8kurtz. However finding 7.62x39 blanks is waaay easier and cheaper.
Now, the big question is PSA going to recreate the trigger mechanism true to the original or not. It is VERY complicated, but without the FA parts there is no need for a lot of it. Hard to say. I would love to get one Post Sample'd as well.
.300 blackout will be for those tacticool kids wanting to run 2 gun matches with cans.
I have one of the real ones I got it before the prices went into the stratosphere. It would be great to have one of these repro’s, but I’ll bet they will be expensive. The FG42 repro’s are about 5K with a long wait.
Agreed with some comments. I don't like the lower receiver detail. I have the GSG .22lr version and it is almost identical.Plus I have an IMA dummy with original parts on a solid receiver and the true lower receiver is really disappointing on the PSA gun.
If it's lacking the full auto selector, then what's the point.
This is the HMG rifle that crashed and burned a few years ago. PSA bought them out. Other than looking like a STG-44 when you squint there isn't anything authentic about this. It uses AR magazines and the HK trigger group. The receiver is shaped differently.
It's a MP44 in practicality, not a replica. There were legitimate reasons to not make a perfect replica
It could be black anodized aluminum instead of polymer.
It’s heavy as hell. I held it at shot show 2024
Thanks for mentioning that!
Mind blowing that it’s taken at least two companies in the US almost a decade and a ton of money to not get near what the Germans did in a couple of years and under duress.
Tbf Germany had years of research into these weapons and could drop tens of millions on research, but yeah its weird how just now near 100 years later we have rudimentary copies
Operation paperclip is the only reason we and the soviets went to space
lol there are a lot of weapons that I would think to be easy to make and reengineer. Sadly, it’s a different world. It could also semi auto thing, materials costs, reduction of manual labor and refining machines to make these in for mass production.
Germany also used slave labor.
Russian AKMs were painted not blued. There milled type 3 was blued i believe. Poland blues their stamped AKMs.
Hey, you need to re-correct about the Fulton armory thing they’re not building in M1 garands they’re just taking CMP rifles, receivers and add a new hardware with it. It’s not the same thing by making all of it.
Right, I added it to the description but I’ll just take it out. Thanks for letting me know.
Gsg does not make the stg anymore, mauser makes it now.
You can't anodize steel and you can't blue aluminum. Depending on the material used, you're limited to certain finishes
It will be released at the same time as the Ruger XGI.
Waiting for PSA to restock is the gun equivalent of waiting for GTA 6
For me the PSA StG 44 is very much a wait and watch kind of deal. The fact that they're making it is definitely really cool, but if the final product if some rushed, half-assed gun that beats itself to death much like the original StG it'll be a hard pass.
My hot take is that the Stg 44, while extremely innovative, was actually a pretty mid gun with a lot of QC/reliability issues and a ridiculous weight. A 1:1 clone isn't actually what we probably want, as cool as it would be for the .00001% of gun owners that are just THAT invested in historical accuracy. I mean, shit, I'm a milsurp wh*re and I'll be getting mine in either 5.56 or .300 BLK lmao.
PSA has a chance to actually *improve* on the StG design using modern tech and machining methods, but they're also a company with a notably mediocre QC record. Cope all you guys want, if I'm buying an AK it ain't going to be a PSA, and the StG clone will likely be made using similar if not the same machinery and techniques.
I want this project to succeed, but PSA have an iffy reputation on their stamped products. I'll hold my breathe a little, but I'm also managing my expectations.
Anyone know how much one of these will cost by chance?
They are saying $2k or so
@@BattlefieldCurator I was thinking it would be way worse tbh.
It would be better if it had the left-side mag release, like the actual STG.
It's designed to take AR mags so you can use mags you already have, same reason the selector is wrong. It uses a modern HK trigger pack
Yea it seems like they were not going to redesign or make it as authentic with the components. Using already widespread components should help keep costs down.
Just looks like a toy to me, you'd buy this for the looks and to me it doesn't look pretty 😢
Looks like the guy that plays Simon on the chosen
Is this gonna turnout just like the MP5
This will actually be made. The mp5 got scrapped
I get that it is supposed to be what it is, but man does that grip angle look uncomfortable.
Not gonna hold my breath of a 2024 release. I’m still waiting for their MP5 clone
🎉😂 me too but I guess the "Turkish knock offs flooded the market "
That was scrapped years ago
Idk should they make a revolver yet what is missing
I think they should make true of their word I'm tired of being lied to for over 12 years
Like what?
As long as it doesn’t cost an arm and leg.
It probably will
Nice idea, but must be selective fire which is currently a legal problem, despite shall not be infringed.
Maybe AAC will make 8mm Kurtz ammo.
PPU makes it.
Until the STG-44 is for sale on their site, it seems like the PSA5 MP5 clone that I've been waiting for PSA to produce since 2020...
You’re still waiting even after they canceled it long ago?
They do this in .30 carbine!
Not sure why they gave it an HK bolt hold open
It has an HK fire control group
bearing in mind H&MGW said this project was going to ship back in 2015 when they ran it LOL
Notice he didn’t mention a price
Or a date
I’m still kicking myself for not buying a PTR44 when they were available and at a halfway affordable price.

Where Have You been? There's another company that's been making these for 10 years now. Comes in a authentic-looking wooden box with a German eagle on it for $399.

Those magazines are actually polymer stanag mags. They also use g3 trigger groups. They're cool but nowhere close to authentic so to me it isn't worth a couple thousand that these will sell for
Ok thanks for the correction. I watched it again and I can see that it isn’t metal. Yea not going to be an authentic reproduction. Hope it’s not a couple of grand

A non automatic stg44 is pretty stupid. The only benefit to the obscure, hard as shit to find cartridge is that the originals are at least automatic, similar to original mp40's. These arent the same as modern assault rifles where the cartridges are plentiful, the aftermarket support is adequate and the replacement parts are numerous. This is a very proprietary system and i honestly just dont see the point. And yes, ive heard they are making these in modern cartridges, but again, whats the point? The point of this firearm is accurate historicity, not modernization because lets be honest: this isnt competition for ar's or ak's, never will be, and no serious gun guy is gonna buy this to replace either one of those. This just seems like a money pit for the company and consumers.
Yeah sorry, it's too far off to be passed as a StG44. It's closer to a H&K than a proper repro. Too many things changed.
It's too bad the 1:1's a few years ago now never took off, they were just too expensive.
It could be, that since P.S.A. has an AMMUNITION DIVISION, P.S.A. might actually PRODUCE 8mm Kurtz?????
I don’t like the H&K selector. Let alone the stamping SAFE and FIRE in English
Yea once you see those little cost saving measures, you can’t unsee them and they take away from it being historically accurate.
Unstained wood is actually better. Anything plastic is a serious no-go. The more it looks like the original, the better - but the original doesn't look like it was manufactured with today's standards.
Oops you wrong. Mag is 100% polymer you can see fiber grain plus mold/cast mark. I'm kind of guy that doesn't say 100% if it is not absolute 100%. IT IS NOT STEEL/ALUMINUM or any metal exterior. (may be reinforced internally) But exterior is polymer. Wrong again, YOU CANNOT ANODIZE STEEL. Anodizing term only apply to aluminum or titanium.
Thanks for the correction. After watching it again I can see it is one of those polymer ones and not a metal repro one
Why dont you put an original rite next to it and you will find there built as good if not better .PSA is there to spread freedom and not just to make individuals happy ,,there there to protect the 2nd and spread freedom to all individuals !!
I’m sure it will be $2k

It’s a ghost gun
Stop using the word Anodizing ....you cant do that to steel only aluminum. The part that slides over the receiver ( attached to the stock) is made of sheet metal just like a HK. The Hill& Mac mags were made of a polymer. Original MP44 mags wont fit due to all the different calibers they want to make it in.
It's crazy that the Germans built these on the jump with all manual machinery and hand fitting and it's taking a modern company with cad cam and cnc technology years and years to reproduce😂
$1500???? For that price they’re going to have to make multiple tens of thousands to bring down the fixed cost of R&D
They will actually be above $2000

@bower31 The dagger was terrible and didn't work even after a redesign it still has tons of issues. the ak gf3 had tons of issues, and the gf5 still has problems. The jackl had a charging sled made of tinfoil that broke every time you chambered it. on top of it all prices aren't even competitive. A zavasta Ak costs the same as the gf5 and is significantly better, and a used gen 3 glock costs the same as the dagger.
