@@og_tokyo Yup, me too, at around the same time. The old timers said the supply had dried up and it wasn't like the old days. But looking back it was still pretty good, places like AIM still had a lot of interesting things. I'm not really buying anymore but I still go out to their website now and then.
Royal Tiger has always done right by me. A little bit slow on shipping and customer service for one of the orders I made a couple years ago wasn’t great… but their pricing, availability, and quality is really good!
My neighbor tried to sell me a Chinese SKS for $750 last week. I’m not very old but I do remember when big 5 sold them for $70 - $90. Missed that boat lol
I bought a Chinese SKS in 1985. Out the door with 100 rounds of cheap Chinese Ammo for $69. Had to disassemble the entire gun and soak the barrel and action in kerosene for a week to get the dried up old Cosmoline off of it. Mil Surp used to be a good buy, but now, the vast majority are priced so high it's gone past ridiculous. Why buy a 100 year old rifle, at an artificially inflated price in often calibers that are equally overpriced, when you can get a modern bolt action, with a decent scope for less, in a caliber that's typically more available and usually less expensive? There's a reason the vast majority of these guns have been sitting in government ordinance dumps for 60 to 100 years. I can understand the Militaria Collector mentality, but the These Guns Are Good SHTF Optional Battle Rifle mentality is illogical.
Man i remember back in 1865 i could buy a Colt Dragoon for $15 and all the ammo my mule could carry for a bottle of whiskey and a chaw of tobacco. The good old days. Maybe some comments about where the best prices are in 2024 would be a little more helpful than, once upon a time i bought.... But for the record, once upon a time i bought a 69 Z28 for$500 , my buddy bought a mint 66 GTO for $800 , and my favorite...i bought a 72 Chevelle for $50 because the guy thought he spun a crank bearing but it turned out to be a collapsed lifter.

I bought my mosin m44 carbine (Ishevsk) with side folding bayonet back in the day for $59. Absolutely packed with cosmoline, refurbished in Russia. When it was finally free of cosmoline, the barrel looked new. I think the Czech ammo was $100 for a case of 880. Good times.
I recently bought an Ishevsk carbine as well, and compared to gunbroker prices I feel good about it. Had full rifling, no cosmoline, and no DIY butchering. All in all paid $245 for the rifle plus 200 rounds of non-corrosive ammo. Saw it in a small town gun shop and picked it up the next day 😂😂
Oh yes! I had a C&R back in the day and Southern Ohio Gun had a sale on 91/30's $45 apiece or $55 for hex receivers, free shipping. I bought 10 of them, totally soaked in cosmoline as you say. I still have 8 of them. I gave two away to friends.

Good video. I think the future of surplus firearms will shift from the dwindling WWII supply to more modern police surplus. A few years ago an Italian law enforcement agency sold off all their old Beretta 32 acp and 380 acp pistols for $200--300. I got a model 82 in great condition. Also, C&R means at least 50 years old so lots of modern firearms including ARs are becoming C&R and attractive to surplus collectors.

I just posted a video actually about my M91 Truppe Speciali from Royal Tiger Imports; I’m pleased; paid the extra $50 to ensure it was a “Beretta Gardone” stamped one that has a cleaning rod. They didn’t send the clip with it, but they made things right, so can’t complain.
i started collecting in 2008, glad i got on that boat, now i am all set, pretty much complete my collection in a few years, i haven't purchased any surplus for about 12 years, i would say 2012 is when everything started going up like crazy.
I'm now 64 years old, that's gotta be twice your age, and I remember when in my 20's I could find mausers and nagants for less than $100, about $80. There was one place near me that had Garands for only $300 and m1 carbines for a scant $169. Surplus ammo for all was abundant and I actually ordered alot from jg sales which has been in business for decades. Grabted alot of the rifles had the rifling pretty well shot out and where worn and abused, but all were still functional. Now the cheapest in worse shape mosin or mauser cost as much or more than some ar 15's. As much as I like and respect old ww2 weapons there's no way I'll pay that kinda money for one
I recently bought a surplus No. 1 Mk. III in very good condition for the equivalent of US$75. And there are about 30 SMLE variants in store between US$40 and US$100 equivalent. Some nicely sporterised and some virtually mint and stock configuration.
My first hunting rifle in 1972 was a 7.35 Terni/Carcano and I took my first deer with it and my uncle took his first deer with the same rifle years before.
That’s pretty awesome. Every time I have taken out my 7.35 Carcano, I haven’t seen a deer. The milsurps in my collection that have taken a deer were the M1 Carbine and my son used a Spoerterized No4 Mk1*. I really want to try again next year with the Carcano in 7.35, it’s such a light, short and handy rifle.
I do too. About 13 years ago, I saw the big five ad with 99.00 mosins. Went to the local store and the clerk said they were sold out. I ended up walking out with a single shot Rossi 410 for 118.00. Time’s change.
Good presentation. And I just bought a Yugo M48A for $319 - a bit over your $300 mark but close enough. I was really glad to find it. I thought they were all gone from the online retailers.
@@BattlefieldCurator As a follow up - I received my Yugo from Centerfire Systems - all matching numbers (surprise) - def has seen action and the bore was a sewer pipe - reminded me of the Turk Mauser 39's back in the day... I have been able to clean it though - and the bore is starting to look good. Thankfully, because this is a shooter.
I cut up a beautiful one about 8 years ago to make a 45 win mag. It has a 1.25" dia 25" long barrel with a 30 carbine mag stuck up through the floorplate. The stock wast quite wide enough for a barrel channel, so it's just cut off at the front of the receiver.
@@BattlefieldCurator I think it will thanks. One thing I do if the accuracy is off is to freshen up the crown with a 45 degree chamfering tool with pilot. I've found that works wonders on old milsurps. So many have the rifling terminus worn on one side usually from the cleaning rod being used improperly.
What made the M16 Berthier sporterized at the end? I have one, that looks very similar from a quick glance, and now I am wondering if I should be looking on mine for something.
Found a "Used" Zastava M57A (TT33) at a pawn shop for $300 out the door. It was brand new. Whoever bought it I guess shot a mag through it and didn't like it? Idk it had pretty much no wear on it and still had a lot of the original grease on it, also had the original packaging and bits. Chrome version, so it always caught peoples eye any time I'd take it out.
I’m up in Canada, I’ve got a carcano calvary carbine and they are pretty slick if you get a nice one. Good round and the rifle is nice and small, light weight.
I've got a Polish underfolder semi-auto AK receiver I've never done anything with. I see whatacountry has polish underfolder parts kits. Not under $300, but if I can dig that receiver out of the parts bin it may be time to build something up out of it.
Once real surplus ammo dried up and new manufactured ammo went to $16-$20 a box for really anything.. buying surplus doesn’t hold water anymore.. a new bolt gun for $400 or less is a much better deal… if shooting/using is your deal..
The 1916 spanish mauser converted to 7.62 nato are still 300 and under. The ones still chambered 7mm mauser 1916s are about 350. Bowman arms has cheap parts kits
I bought a Israeli Bul Cherokee..from old Western scrounger.. 300 bucks ..9mm 17rd ..it's my EDC.. also bought Jericho 941 from Mosin crate..for 350.00
good info, better than so many others! yes, I liked and subscribed. Hope to see more great content! BTW, you could be hazardous to my wallet - yes, I have been warned.......
The BUL Cherokee is an almost part for part copy of the Tanfoglio/EAA Witness pistols. Never owned a BUL but I had a Witness compact in 9mm and it was a good little shooter. It was the first CCW pistol I bought when I turned 21, trigger was a little mushy in DA, but the SA pull was more than adequate, and the gun shot good groups with good ammo, with shit ammo it tended low right. Definitely regret getting rid of that little gun. If the BUL's are as good as the Witness that they copy, they'll be good guns.

I’m too late for cheap Mausers but I am trying to take advantage of the glocks and kits and Carcanos and stuff. Just got to capitalize on what you can get
I remember going to gun shows 15 years ago and seeing those Swiss Rueben rifles everywhere along with spam cans of cheap ammo for them, but they were not very popular because of that weird pull bolt action it had and it really did not have any military history like Mausers, Enfield's or other surplus rifles had so you could buy one pretty cheap back then, Now when I go to gun shows I rarely see any for sale and if I do they are really expensive
Never heard your interesting pronunciation of Carcano before. Not saying it's wrong , just never heard it pronounced that way. By the way how do you pronounce Mozin? Anyway ,thanks for your list ,it gives great suggestions to look at.
In regards to the bul cherokee, they have new ones for sale around 350 or less at times, i have the compact and full size. The single action is pretty good but the double action is really spongy with a delayed hammer release if you try to stage the trigger. I love this gun but i bought the new one, i havent bought the old ones.
As an unhappy MA resident who owns no guns but a Hawker's .45 muzzle loader... a carcano sounds kinda cool. Why the hate? Is the caliber hard to find? I def have thought of getting my permit, but i intend to move to a constitutional carry state by the end of the year
I had one in the 1970s, 29.00 came with a 30 caliber ammo can full of bulk ammo 6.5, better off for emotion of the better off wy Russian garbage ride, or a Savage Marlin SKS muzzleloader
Surplus is interesting for collectors, but when Ruger LCP Max in 380acp & Taurus G3C in 9mm are LESS than $300, with warranty, they dont really make sense if youre going to do anything like regular use.
Surplus firearms should be boycotted until prices come down. Also with our nation tumbling towards civil war, it would be best to invest in a AK or AR platform
I been in this hobby siince 2005. I could get a mint romanian sks for $250 and a mint yugo mauser for same price back then. A nagant ran $100-150 mint and i got a steal on a DOT 1944 KAR98k for $120. Now so many people are in this hobby the prices suck and many places have closed down. Its simply long past the pentacle of this hobby. I can tell you I think J&G bought the nagant batch from an old friend of mine that passed away, probably an estate sale. He had easily a few thousand nagants and thats all he collected, his wife was left to sell them off. I sure miss the days of buying from Southern Ohio Gun or Century when they had the biggest inventory. Times have sadly changed and also many people on auctions will not honor a 03 FFL.
I remember I bought my Mosin Nagant with my first paycheck back about 15 years ago for $118. Now I look at the prices people want on gunbroker and laugh 😂
@@BattlefieldCurator my dad had the barrel bored (receiver) enlarged..7.7 is a bit smaller but not much... does yours still have the chrysanthemum on it?
Depends on origin and condition. Russian ones are the rare ones. Chinese ones start at like 350-400 and go from there. Alot of SKS value is lost if it doesnt come with its original wood stock or its bayonet. Also, the variants that take magazines from the factory are worth more for sure.
Yeah I came in late to the game and it sucks, can't believe I'm thinking of getting an m16A1 kit for 750. Any experience with the ones from Atlantic firearms?

Buying an Sks from big 5 or some company advertising in Shotgun news for $180 or a M1 Garand for $350 was the most affordable and practical rifles to get into wild boar hunting here in northern California when i was in highschool, they are solid and ugly, a true workhorses really, now they are mostly way to expensive for what they are
Look out for those cz50s, they are not actually .32acp. I got a cz70 and it will shoot 32 but jams every shot. They are actually Luger 30 and shoot those fine
Thirty two a c p is still a wonderful round if you get things like critical defense or silvertip ammunition. The expansion is insane on these things and makes a big difference. In other words, you get the energy delivery to target. That is equivalent to an forty five a c p hardball round.

Friend used a carcano carbine for deer rifle for years . Light , low recoil , accurate enough, easy handling . They got a poor rep that was undeserved
Yep and a lot of rumors surrounding the Carcano family of rifles and carbines
A deer is just a oversized goat
Nice I also carry one of my CZ 82's on occasion as well!
Right on 🍻
I just posted a video actually about my M91 Truppe Speciali from Royal Tiger Imports; I’m pleased; paid the extra $50 to ensure it was a “Beretta Gardone” stamped one that has a cleaning rod. They didn’t send the clip with it, but they made things right, so can’t complain.
Awesome! I just watched it. I’m kinda considering one myself
Being born in the 2000’s is hell, I salivate when people tell me about buying guns under $300
You can often find Spanish Mauser’s in the $300-$400 range in good condition on Gun Broker.
I checked 2 weeks after this video came out and the guns are already more expensive!
i started collecting in 2008, glad i got on that boat, now i am all set, pretty much complete my collection in a few years,
i haven't purchased any surplus for about 12 years, i would say 2012 is when everything started going up like crazy.
Cz 82 will go the route the beretta 84 and 85 went. Grab one while you can boys!!
6:17 no one uses level 2 body armor anymore
I recently bought a surplus No. 1 Mk. III in very good condition for the equivalent of US$75. And there are about 30 SMLE variants in store between US$40 and US$100 equivalent. Some nicely sporterised and some virtually mint and stock configuration.
Very nice! I’m guessing these shops are out of a different country.
I too have a 7.35 Carcano short rifle. Hard to find ammo but it's a sweet rifle, much lighter than my Turkish Mauser
I remember seeing mosins on the big 5 catalog for $200-300, kicking myself for letting those slip by.
Brother I bought them back when they were 58$
@@bobborlog1677yeah 79.99 at Roses department store with slings cleaning kits and bayonet. Sometimes a can of ammo.
@@bobborlog1677 yeah and the Lee Enfields and Springfield 1903 were like $100
I too remember when I was a child.
That’s pretty good… someone told me that Atlantic Firearms got some surplus M48s and they have them for 750
@@BattlefieldCurator As a follow up - I received my Yugo from Centerfire Systems - all matching numbers (surprise) - def has seen action and the bore was a sewer pipe - reminded me of the Turk Mauser 39's back in the day...
@@theoriginalOSOKhope it works out for ya
@@BattlefieldCurator I think it will thanks. One thing I do if the accuracy is off is to freshen up the crown with a 45 degree chamfering tool with pilot. I've found that works wonders on old milsurps. So many have the rifling terminus worn on one side usually from the cleaning rod being used improperly.
Cz82 and 83 are absolute gems. And the 83 shoots 380acp which has a great supply
Oh hey, I work for Indianapolis Ordnance, thanks for the shout out!
Very cool! 😎
I have a cz70, and its a gread carry gun. Its so comfortable i sometimes forget i have it on. I cant imagain the 50 being much different
In 1964 you could pick up just about any milsurp rifle for under $20.00. Lee Enfields were selling for $12.95.
I have a CZ83 in .380, it was my first gun. It has had more than a few jams but it's still my bedstand gun after carrying it for a year or so
I’m up in Canada, I’ve got a carcano calvary carbine and they are pretty slick if you get a nice one. Good round and the rifle is nice and small, light weight.
I’m glad I was old enough to be able to catch the tail end of the surplus gun golden age.
I've got a Polish underfolder semi-auto AK receiver I've never done anything with. I see whatacountry has polish underfolder parts kits. Not under $300, but if I can dig that receiver out of the parts bin it may be time to build something up out of it.
I have a bul cherokee but I paid 500 for it at Range USA...I love it it feels and looks like my Mapp1.
Awesome! Thanks for your input
Once real surplus ammo dried up and new manufactured ammo went to $16-$20 a box for really anything.. buying surplus doesn’t hold water anymore.. a new bolt gun for $400 or less is a much better deal… if shooting/using is your deal..
I never bothered with surplus because by the time I was interested, there were brand new guns that were priced either the same or even less expensive!
Got my M44 back in 2008 after pawning a gold chain I found at my University. $85 sticker price at Big 5 :(
I love my CZ50. Great shooter even with the crappy military style sites. The CZ70 is a slight upgrade and takes the same mags
Sten mk 3 was really easy to build. I recommend the challenge
Might have to do it this year
It’s kinda funny how much work goes into making it semi auto only compared to building it as originally designed.
The 1916 spanish mauser converted to 7.62 nato are still 300 and under. The ones still chambered 7mm mauser 1916s are about 350.
Bowman arms has cheap parts kits
Thanks for the info!
@BattlefieldCurator no problem. Thanks for all your content helping collectors navigate the surplus collecting. Well what it ie now any way.
@@bad74maverick1I enjoy it 😁🍻
I bought a Israeli Bul Cherokee..from old Western scrounger.. 300 bucks ..9mm 17rd ..it's my EDC.. also bought Jericho 941 from Mosin crate..for 350.00
Awesome!
I remember not that long ago one could get a mosin nagant and a tin of ammo for 299. Itnwasna 4th of July sale.
6:54 the M57 is still that price because Zastava still makes it and it's 9mm counterpart, the m70a
Sweet hat, brother. Good vid. 🤠
Thanks 🍻
good info, better than so many others! yes, I liked and subscribed. Hope to see more great content!
BTW, you could be hazardous to my wallet - yes, I have been warned.......
lol thanks 😁🍻
The BUL Cherokee is an almost part for part copy of the Tanfoglio/EAA Witness pistols. Never owned a BUL but I had a Witness compact in 9mm and it was a good little shooter. It was the first CCW pistol I bought when I turned 21, trigger was a little mushy in DA, but the SA pull was more than adequate, and the gun shot good groups with good ammo, with shit ammo it tended low right. Definitely regret getting rid of that little gun. If the BUL's are as good as the Witness that they copy, they'll be good guns.
Cool list & cool guns.like & subscribed. Love all of them.rarely met a gun I didn’t like.Doubt I’m alone here.!???.S&W simi auto LE trade ins a while back were a killer deal. I’m more into saving than spending right now.
PS. I could go the rest of my life without seeing another optics ready polymer pistol and be fine with that!
I think a lot of collectors have stepped back and started saving more than spending
I’m too late for cheap Mausers but I am trying to take advantage of the glocks and kits and Carcanos and stuff. Just got to capitalize on what you can get
Also cheap ARs. We are definitely in the age of the good cheap AR15
I’ve seen a lot of Swiss rifles online these days. Not sure why I haven’t seen them at many shows either 🤔
Never heard your interesting pronunciation of Carcano before. Not saying it's wrong , just never heard it pronounced that way. By the way how do you pronounce Mozin? Anyway ,thanks for your list ,it gives great suggestions to look at.
i remember when you could buy an unfired surplus nosing for 75¢. AND it came with 30,000 rounds of non corrosive ammo. good times.
Mislurps and even Saturday night specials go for $500 an up in the gun shows
I might need a sten
7.62x25 always intrigued me, 2880 rnd crates for almost nothing. I thought they'd never sell out and alas, what a fool i was
I sometimes look at older forum posts… you weren’t the only one that thought that
In regards to the bul cherokee, they have new ones for sale around 350 or less at times, i have the compact and full size. The single action is pretty good but the double action is really spongy with a delayed hammer release if you try to stage the trigger. I love this gun but i bought the new one, i havent bought the old ones.
Ah ok thanks for your input
I saw a cz 52 for 300$ at a local pawn. Used to be way cheaper than that, but is that ridiculous now?
Ten years ago $300 was worth a LOT more. 7.62x25 is harder to find and cost a lot more than even a few years ago.
Yes
I am often laughing at ancient rifles with ludicrous price tags. Thanks.
Milsurps used to be a lot cheaper, which made them ok for practical uses but now, as you stated, they are mainly for collectors
Not to long back i saw 303 brit rifles for like 150 to 200...dang old age i forgot where... maybe jg sales..😕
I think those might have been the drill purpose rifles you saw
The carcano was actualy used as far back as the boxer revolution.
Ahhhh yea I saw all those Mosins on their website… so overpriced imo
Im digging that hat.
Thanks!
Ammo for the Carcano is hard to find and expensive, so probably not a good shtf or teotwawki choice.
Yep, way better rifles and carbines than a Carcano for shtf
I remember I bought my Mosin Nagant with my first paycheck back about 15 years ago for $118.
Now I look at the prices people want on gunbroker and laugh 😂
I recently bought a type-99 arisaka for $200. The cost of ammo, when you can find it, is no joke though!
You van have it worked on to make it shoot 30-06...
I’d say that’s a pretty good deal!
@@BattlefieldCurator my dad had the barrel bored (receiver) enlarged..7.7 is a bit smaller but not much... does yours still have the chrysanthemum on it?
$200 is a great price for a type 99
@@dougshelton69I only have a Type 38 rifle with a perfect chrysanthemum
I bought an SKS some years ago for $275. I wonder how much they are going for now days?
750-1100 depending
I’ve seen them recently as low as 545 and as high as 1k.
good to know-@@BattlefieldCurator
Depends on origin and condition. Russian ones are the rare ones. Chinese ones start at like 350-400 and go from there. Alot of SKS value is lost if it doesnt come with its original wood stock or its bayonet. Also, the variants that take magazines from the factory are worth more for sure.
I remember years ago fleet farm had a pile of AK for 250 or 300 bucks should of gotten one.
The bul cherokee is similar to a combat master (I think thats the name) and they are pretty solid guns
Just wanted to update, the bul cherokee is similar to the SARUSA cm9
3:14 All day long Sportsmans Warehouse. 5 different makers. Good prices
Norma on hold with that one
Yeah I came in late to the game and it sucks, can't believe I'm thinking of getting an m16A1 kit for 750. Any experience with the ones from Atlantic firearms?
No sorry, I did not get one from Atlantic. I get mine from What-a-Country. I analyzed the pros and cons of Atlantic, Apex parts, and What A Country… What a Country was the winner! th-cam.com/video/v_la4qkTJBg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9_vuAzxYEX6LyTuK
Buying an Sks from big 5 or some company advertising in Shotgun news for $180 or a M1 Garand for $350 was the most affordable and practical rifles to get into wild boar hunting here in northern California when i was in highschool, they are solid and ugly, a true workhorses really, now they are mostly way to expensive for what they are
The M57 at Old Western Scrounger (swindler) that is under $300 DOESN’T COME WITH A MAGAZINE!
Thanks for letting me know. A small detail that shouldn’t have been discovered when making the video. I’ll update the pinned comment.
@@BattlefieldCurator the ones with magazines are much more.
Is this Carcano the same rifle that was alledgedly used by Lee H. Oswald?
This isn’t the exact same Carcano model but it is chambered in the same caliber
Where do you get ammo for the Italian jobs?
Steinel ammo is my main source of
Look out for those cz50s, they are not actually .32acp. I got a cz70 and it will shoot 32 but jams every shot. They are actually Luger 30 and shoot those fine
Cz 82 is great ,I use it
I’ve got a couple 😁🍻
Thirty two a c p is still a wonderful round if you get things like critical defense or silvertip ammunition. The expansion is insane on these things and makes a big difference. In other words, you get the energy delivery to target. That is equivalent to an forty five a c p hardball round.
Cant find ammo for the Carcano
I “mashed” the like button
Antique rifle are a option, ammo might be an issue though
Sporterized rifles could be an option too.
Yea I’ve seen fewer and fewer antiques in the 300 price range… I have seen a Vetterli M81 recently and the shop wanted 900 for it
Sporterized Military rifle AKA Abomination
