Thanks for the tissue and food tips💡! I haven't heard of Orchard up until now, but I did hear of the nature spots😅. I love that smokers are kind of 'quarantined', same as in Japan and South Korea. As a singaporean, the tissue trick is more commonly used in "Lunch hours peak hours on weekdays" on normal days people will leave their bags on the table to reserve (dont worry the back will be the same spot) *tried that for my whole life If you are into high end stuff you should go MBS. Orchard road now is like a quiet place now, not much teenager and singaporean go there anymore as E-shopping are more common and cheaper

The "reservation" by tissue is a bad rep that we try not to promote. It started off by people in the past when Singapore was still a developing nation whose practices of social etiquette left much to be desired. While people still do this, this is not what we Singaporeans are inclined to do nor do we like to see foreigners do. Now, as a developed country, many of us frown on this practice. It's a show of bad taste. So please do not do this act here. Plus, it's not always effective. There's always a chance that some bad characters would just grab those tissues as their own and take over your place; or simply throw your tissues away and deny that they see any tissues around. However, an alternative to this is to have someone wait at your seat while you grab your food. If some strangers come over just simply tell them politely that your friend is sitting there.
First of all, it is efficient because no one needs to "sacrifice" his/her time for the greater crowd. This is especially true for an hour lunch break during work hour. Secondly, I dont see alot people frowning on that. In fact many youngster doing it too. And lastly, why would you think it is lacking in etiquette? Sure, it's subjective. If the tissues is there, it only means they come out earlier than you. What differences does it make for one person to sit there and shoo people off and putting a tissue, other than probably just some little mind trick to yourself a tissue is winning over you?
