Visiting the Jewel Changi was something i'd been really keen on doing in Singapore. So much so that even though i was sick as a dog when in Singapore, I wasn't going to let the opportunity to see the Jewel, i.e. the newest addition to the world's BEST AIRPORT (voted so by Skytrax for seven consecutive years) slip before i left the country.
I didn't do as much research on the Jewel as i should've... and in my mind, my silly assumption made sense.
Anyway...if anything i hope you don't make the same mistake i do when visiting Jewel Changi. Although i was disappointed, i managed to explore Terminal 1, Terminal 2 AND Terminal 3 of Singapore Airport - got to see a BUNCH of stuff (the airport has a butterfly garden, a sunflower garden and a whole range of other cool stuff) and i was also able to get (unlimited rides) on the airport sky train, so not all was lost.
Honestly, i'm still kinda embarrassed and baffled at myself lol. i'm not usually like this... i promise.
I hope you enjoyed my perspective of Singapore's Changi Airport.

So, if i just transit to singapore for almost 4hr, can i still go to jewell?

    • @JaniceFung
      @JaniceFung  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@alvonsoputera7063 based on my understanding, you still can (though they recommend 5 hours as ''sufficient'' timing)
because Jewel isn't in the transit (restricted area), to visit it, you will need have a valid visa to enter Singapore. this means you'll have to go through arrival immigration & customs and then once you're done visiting Jewel, pass through departure immigration & security to get back into the transit area

You all can proceed straight to jewel where there is an early check in kiosk to drop your baggages regardless of which terminal.your flight is in . If not , there is also bag storage areas . But do remember , the early check in service closes 3 hours before your flight and after that you have to proceed to your terminal to do check in via the usual method

The airport offers two free city tours if you have a long layover. The first one is at 8am and then one in the afternoon. They take the group back through immigration and onto two tour buses. It lasts about 2 hours and brings you back to the airport and through immigration again. Im not sure if theyve added jewel to the tour but you can ask at the information booth

This free airport city 2.5hr tour applies to layover of more than 5hrs but under 24 hrs. You just need to approach the counter, produce your connecting flight boarding pass and passport as proof. So Singapore is a fantastic transit station to save on a one-stop transit flights (aka cheaper) tickets vs direct flight!

Hi Janice, I wrote a suggestion to the Changi Airport Group to improve this situation after watching your video n this is their reply below. Sorry that this happened! Awesome video by the way!
"Thank you for your suggestion to install signs to inform travellers that Jewel Changi Airport is only accessible from public areas.
We acknowledge and do note of these occurrences. We have since implemented changes to some of our collaterals and maps to include a liner to inform Changi Airport visitors of this important information to ensure visitors can enjoy Jewel Changi Airport before proceeding for their flights. We will continue to monitor and review to install additional signs within the terminals to tighten these wayfinding gaps.
Thank you once again for your suggestion."

Jewel is a mall, think of it that way!
It must be accessible to anyone (not contained in a secured area) ; not just users of the Airport.
      One should do special check
-in of luggage first then shop at jewel before getting to your flight
Jewel is never designed for passengers doing transit or who have not pass thru immigration to get into Singapore
U need to pay GSt taxes when u shop and dine at jewel
(But upon check in / done immigration, those shops inside the airport while awaiting flights have no taxes)

Did you dumb arses know that once you pass immigration, you are in a secure area. Idiots have attempted to get in here by purchasing a ticket, then not taking the flight, which is illegal. Yeah let’s open up the whole of jewel and swing from a tree. Don’t need to fly then. Idiots!

  • @eujiboo
    @eujiboo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Jewel Changi is accessible before immigration yep. Its located in Terminal One - and the MRT is located at Terminal Two, so just hop on a skytrain and you'll be there in a jiffy.
For travellers, you're also able to check in your luggages directly at Jewel if you're there at least three hours before your flight.
At least you're not out of options once you're past immigration, there's still a lot of things to do (just not sightseeing Jewel hahaha).

Hi, so basically here's a list of things you can do if you find yourself stranded for a few hours:
    • movie theaters in T2 and T3
    • pool if u have a little extra money (T1)
    • get a massage too if u have enough (T2 and T3)
    • play arcade/video games (again, T2 and T3)
    • get dem free snacks
    • and those free photos too
    • also, look out for pop-up stores: sometimes they have liquor tasting, small play area for kids or make-up consultation
    Photospots:
T1 - Cactus Garden, Lily Garden
T2 - Sunflower Garden, Orchid Garden
T3 - Butterfly Garden, Wings Sculpture (nearby A Gates, T3 is basically a photo spot wherever you go) go down to the immigration level if you want to see sculptures(dont worry you can go back up, just dont go through it)
    Kids:
    • Playgrounds (T1 and T2)
    • colouring areas (T2 and T3)
    Snooze areas:
T1: Near the D gates, take the escalator up beside the bookshop.
T2: Main TVs area, near F gates.
T3: From the departure immigration, walk your way to the back. Also, there is a snooze area behind Food Street too.

    Hello Janice !
I was in Singapore 2nd week of August 2019 and no worries coz Jewel is a mall inside the airport. Typical class "A" mall... There are supermarket, Cinema, and stores to shop.
That huge indoor fountain occupying several floors of Jewel is for me d highlight... But you have seen it as I have seen in your vlog here in.
Yes, Jewel is located in the airport before passing the immigration coz those people who wanna go to d mall or supermarket before departure or upon arrival at the airport could go directly to Jewel to shop everything they need.
Don't feel so bad or so sad that you didn't go to Jewel coz to reiterate Jewel is a typical class "A" to shop or do window shopping or watch movie or buy food supply in the supermarket. 🌷⭐🌻🌼
    Cheer up girl 🤜🤛🌈💓

The Changi Jewel is a big mall beside the airport and is in a public area ; visit it BEFORE you go through immigration if you are departing Singapore or AFTER immigration if you are arriving into Singapore.( I copied this from some brochure).

Thanks for sharing this. I was at Singapore Changi airport Nov 2019. I was transmitting from Perth going Seoul. I knew about the Jewel beforehand, so when I arrived Changi (from Perth) I looked up map, yep I am at this terminal, take the train to next terminal where Jewel is. I simply couldn’t find it, though the map say it is there. I asked someone and she said it’s outside, need to pass the immigration. So I didn’t get to see it. Then I saw this video of yours. At least you found the free movie cinema. I couldn’t find that either.

Hi Janice! We're so intrigued! We've heard so many great things about this airport. Noooooooooooooo.... That's so sad!!!! Don't feel bad though. We've done similar things while traveling. Haha Plus, you got to show us everything else that we don't see in most videos. This airport has so much!!! They really think about passengers. Yayyyy!!! At least you got to see it. That butterfly garden is pretty epic too. That food street sounds pretty cool as well. YEahhh Cactus garden! It is indeed very nice that you have the option to swim.Great video!

Actually you did not make any mistake since you are able to very all the 3 connecting terminal and catch a ride internally on Skytrain that goes thru the middle of Jewel, which i m waiting to do when i Depart at Changi during the night. They have the hourly illuminations for 15mins at the Vortex waterfall.
Next trip, after check-in, in public areas..just go to T1 to really shop & eat. Is in public areas. Not inside transit. Do visit again...Cheers!

I think it's more a marketing problem that made you assume that Jewel can be visited after immigrations. I keep seeing non Singaporean media referring to Jewel as the airport when it really is just a mall that is next to/connected to the airport. It's understandable to think that you can visit the place after immigrations.

The card system at the food court is probably because they’re anticipating transit passengers that may not have Singapore currency, so only the main counter has to handle the currency exchange

LOL in all honesty, I would've made the same mistake. I thought you could access Jewel from within the terminals as well. We just got lucky cos we randomly stumbled upon as we were looking for our Grab and I was like, "oh, what's this waterfall contraption thingy?" I legit had never heard of the Jewel before. Clearly have been living under a rock. I'd try and make you feel better by saying it's overrated, not that impressive and all.. but danggggg, girl. You missed out. It's pretty darn epic. Good advice. Do not take your luggage into Changi Jewel. I have written complaints about not having clear warning signage (especially for older folks), that it is a one kilometer walk (felt like it) from Terminal to Jewel. Then when you want to go home, the taxi drop off outside Jewel cannot take on passengers (stupid traffic regulation). You have to take your self and luggage all the way to the other side of the airport terminal and wait in line with passengers who have just disembarked. If you are not physically fit, there is nothing but a waterfall similar to Gardens by the Bay or MBS. Shops are plentiful but not really relevant - imagine Gardens by the Bay full of shops. My experience in Changi Jewel was not so good and I went without any baggages.

Love your work, Janice. Here`s mine. Brissy to Sydney to Osaka, Japan. Waited at the luggage carousel in Sydney for luggage that never came (cos going to Japan). No staff anywhere cos its QANTAS and all self-check in/service. Missed my flight to KIX, waited another 8 hours at Sydney airport with a 4-year-old, for the next flight.
    Now that’s talent ❤️😂
