    7:50 its called Mee Rebus or direct translation is "boiled noodles"
    this version seems to use shrimp/prawn as part of its base and they added mutton bits.
    usually it potato starch to thicken the gravy, but it also uses salted soybean paste.

    Try Kway Chap next time, large pieces of flat rice noodles in braised soup, with accompanied dishes of braised pork belly, intestines, eggs, tofu, peanuts, preserved vegetables and some stall with braised duck as well. Bet you'll love the spicy chilly sauce that comes with them.

    The thing about Singapore, is it CAN be really expensive, but you only have to move a few blocks away to find the cheap, often even better option. It's easy to have a great holiday on a budget there.

    Hi Mike! I'm from Singapore and I really enjoyed this video! If you really enjoyed the Kolo Mee then I suggest you visit Kuching, Sarawak in Malaysia, it's where Kolo Mee comes from, and there's also Sarawak Laksa.

    In Singapore when you have a heavy meal we wash it down with calamansi/lime juice, sugar cane juice with a swig of lemon. Sometimes we have desserts of soursop jelly or ice jelly

    That sweet rice cake Mike had, it was such a pleasant surprise for me. As a person born and raised in the state of West Bengal, India, it sometimes saddens me to see Bengali cuisine and food culture so underrepresented on the international platforms. We have something very similar to Puttu in Bengal. It is a type of 'Pitha' (rice cakes and dumplings with sweet and savoury fillings, steamed, boiled or fried). We have a filling of jaggery and coconut and the steamed rice cake is often eaten with jaggery syrup. Yum!

    50% of why Singapore is listed as the most expensive city to live in is due to the price of owning and running a private car. Take the car part out and you get the same if not cheaper prices as compared to other first world cities.

    Love how you stood beside the Michelin starred chicken rice shop and recommended the claypot rice hahaha! In all honesty, hawker chan did not live up to the hype for me, lots of other places serving tastier and cheaper chicken rice which I'm sure you've discovered :)

    • @secretdiaryofafoodie
      @secretdiaryofafoodie 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I kept hearing this but tried Hawker Chan anyway & honestly I thought it was very good 🤔🤷‍♀️. I take all 'hype' with a grain of salt, might have gotten them on a good day (and made sure I went to the original location), but it was one of the best soy chicken noodles (with pork) I ate & I'd still recommend it 😄
