I grabbed the gbd-h1000 last month and I am not disappointed. That MIP display really is the bees knees. Feels like a mini-rangeman. Cant wait to see where Casio goes with these. They really are a huge leap forward for G’s and Casio as a whole.
As a surfer, this watch looks pretty amazing. One of the biggest problems I have had with watches, Casio in particular, is the keeper slides off the band very easily in the water and the entire watch falls off. I have lost several watches because of this. So to have those "teeth" in the keeper is an amazing touch. The simplicity yet informative info about the tides is super helpful to know when you are out in the water if the surf will be getting better or worse with the tides. Not sure how far the Bluetooth range is, but to be able to see a text when surfing is amazing, say you are surfing with a friend on the beach and they need to leave they can simply text you instead of waving for minutes on end until you look at the beach. This watch seems to be geared for anybody who is constantly on the water (surfers, fishermen) and wouldn't seem to useful for anyone else.
As a fisherman i totally agree. I have several watches all tide and moon related for different reasons/ functions. Its the only reason im interested in this watch
Thanks a bunch can’t swim not a surfer at any means but I just love the design and fir that reason I tend on getting it. Do you think it’s a suitable watch for normal day to day uses and the strap slider is it poor when out of water?
It may be, who knows. But yeah I was just noticing last night that I could still read the display even in a darker room. It really is totally legible under most lighting.
Is it an E-ink like display? They should have embraced that years ago as it is so much easier to read in negative. It has much lower battery drain than LCD, which is already low.
@@zezem No, the display is not E-ink, but similar to the display of the original Pebble smartwatch. That watch used a Sharp "E-paper" display. It is a type of LCD, with built in memory so that it can refresh itself. This leads to a very low power consumption. The continuous refresh would draw a lot of extra power, that is probably why the stopwatch is only counting seconds.
If this had Tough Solar it'd be an Insta Buy. Maybe the next gen will have that and be a Carbon Core design. And the option to reverse the Display to positive. That would be nice.
OMG! That Casio digital dairy just took me waaaaay back AGAIN. Right, off to eBay, once this video finishes of course! Congrats on the new Shocky, LOVE IT. That display is very impressive. Thank you for sharing, onwards and upwards. Best regards, TGV

Judging by this comment section people really seem to think tough solar is very important. But 2 years is fine guys cmon. It even warns you when the battery starts to get low so you won't have battery anxiety.
I get that people want tough solar I'm a big fan of it myself due to the fact that you don't need to compromise water resistance. With battery quartz watches it's not always cheap for a battery change and pressure test which is important if you use your watch in or around water, plus you can use all the watches features as often as you like without reducing the watches 2yr battery life. Solar is a no brainer!
Exactly. I had a few solar watches and I hated them because I have many watches and I don’t always rotate between them evenly. 2 of my solar watches lost power and it was a PITA to recharge them. Gimme non-solar watches anytime! Ready to be used anytime, and the one odd battery change in 2 years

The standard G-lide models do that really well, where as this one is too finicky. If you want a watch with a load of functions you are probably going to go for a full on smart watch, and if you want a serious watch for diving/surfing there are better options out there. They should make another version right off this model as an astrophysical watch, keeping the rise and set time of all the planets and maybe constellations(and deep space objects if they can fit it all in there). There could be different colored resin straps that are slightly subdued/pastel accents of all the planets. I think with the way Casio's improved their watch display quality they could revive a solar system watch like they had years ago, but one that is seriously useful to astronomers or just plain fun for nerds like me. The illumination could be an amber or red for when you're out in the dark with the telescope. It would be so nice though to know when a certain planet or object will reach opposition right on the wrist! I just like it when my watches have a connection with space or space travel in general (have a few of those). Shoot if I were an astronaut id take that teal one to space! Once you drop a mechanical watch (or even a quartz analog) on a hard floor and ruin it you learn to appreciate G-Shock even more.
Come on Casio, get that tough solar on the table and you have a buyer! That negative display is beautiful, finally one that you can easily read!

As a cold water surfer, I would prefer a temperature sensor over the usually not so accurate tide graph.
Paul Couderc you can adjust it to make the tide reading more accurate. The temp sensor because you need to take off the watch for the best reading.
