    I discover 20 out of 26 apps has access to my calls. Back in the days of landline phones we called that line intervention illegal. This was very easy to follow, Thank you.

      Still is, as far as I know? But only if they do it "without your permission".
      Sadly, unless people realize, and know computer stuff...and most of us don't. Even foreign governments have full access to their photos, media, cameras, microphones, call logs, e-mails, banks...literally every single thing every single citizen of every country does with their phones.

    Hey guys, I really appreciate this video. The biggest concern I have is "ask everytime" it makes me think, "WHY" do they need this permission and sometimes I don't know. Therefore, I don't really know if it's good or bad in that moment (in order for me to make the right decision about it). For example, why would Facebook need my mic? Is it to "go live" on their site from your phone? I guess it would tell you this if you tried to go live without mic permission turned on- right? Some apps are more cryptic about why they need permissions than others (especially when installing it versus when you're using the app use in the moment)- At this point I usually delete the app altogether or disable it (at the very least). Not every app is a must have or must use the way they make you think it is.

      Really? Lot's of these settings are exist on iPhone, (Permission control/access control/diagnostic data/etc.). on modern Android you always need to provide access, even for system apps (except some core apps). You can't control everything on iPhone that you can on Android, which is better for your privacy

      I want their families to know what to do / not to do .but , make it easier for them !
      Please give us a guide . There are apps now on the parents phone they don't even know what they do . But, if you stop one it prevents another app from notifying them or the patient because it's somehow interrelated now . It's gotten so confusing . The phone is overloaded . It twirls all the time to catch up and wow ! They ate exhausted . Please help both of us ?

    I am old but I do pretty well with technology but this went really fast! I need it very badly but I need to be able to do this stuff as you're talking. I cannot remember all of that and it made my head spin. Do you have like a page you could send to people who need it in writing so they can follow slowly? I would really really like to do a whole bunch of what you're talking about but my head is spinning so I can't even watch the rest of the video. Maybe I'll come back at it in a while. I have been getting so may pop up ads , hope this helps by following your advice. Don't know if you have discussed this before but I get all these calls that I just don't answer. @PayetteForward  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sha T, your comment means so much to us! And the issue you're having with spam calls - that is truly cross-generational! :-)
      I'd recommend opening the Google Play Store and downloading the Robokiller app. Just search for "Robokiller" and it should pop right up, or (this is probably easier) click this link to go right there: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.robokiller.app&hl=en_US&gl=US.
      Stick with the free version - there's no need to pay. It should eliminate most of those spam calls and then you'll feel more confident that when you see a number you don't recognize, it's a person you want to talk to.
      I must say that at this point there is no perfect solution to the robocall problem - all we can do is our best. :)

    Like this video. I used to be more trusting of my phone, but have learned that THEY ALL use your data. We are given the option to turn a lot of these settings off, BUT they still get access through other apps in the background, right? Do apps like System UI, Finder, Android System Intelligence, Bixby Routines, and others still get those permissions without the option to turn these off?

So I removed that access from all of them, and now I can send photos in messages and not watch it downloading for 5 minutes, and making me turn my Wi-Fi off for it to send. There are an awful lot of Android battery and data saving videos online, but I like yours the best. I have also done the .5 animations reductions in developer mode, and, although it makes things snappier, as soon as you close the developer mode, as is recommended by Samsung, the settings go right back to 1. Not if power is off. When it is powered down and shut off even in an emergency they cannot access your phone without declaring that person as a danger to himself or others. Otherwise you have the right to be where you want and when and keep your privacy. If phone power is off then location settings are all off. GPS will always find the phone if off or on.

    I'm so glad I found your videos I'm not to good at knowing what to keep and what to remove on my phone. So I'm literally going to each app that is already pre installed on my phone and removing all permissions , turning off supported links , also turning off allow background data usage. I am even not allowing change system settings. One more not allowing any app to preinstall unknown apps . Mostly all the apps let me do it if I really need it then I will turn on what I feel I might need. For now I'm doing this because I have seen unknown apps being installed on my galaxy s21 ultra . I've tried removing it but it won't let me my phone has been very laggy,, dropped calls or calls go straight to voice-mail which should not be happening with such a new phone. Your videos are very useful for people like me thanks .

    Thanks for this video (also appreciate the index - a LOT!). A question I had which wasn't addressed is how concerned I should be about dire warnings (your phone may not work, etc.) if I remove permissions for core apps. For example, gmail, which I do not use (I check non-gmail email addresses in a 3rd party email app), and Google, which I have disabled on my home screen, and is not not the search engine in my primary browser (which is not Chrome - I do use Chrome occasionally as a secondary browser, and Google search still seems to work fine in it). It seems there is still a way to go in requiring Google to specify under what circumstances disabling such apps will - and won't - impact an individual configuration, rather than being allowed to give these vague warnings. Unfortunately, my phone does not always seem to notify me when permissions need to be enabled - I have had apps that just didn't work correctly for weeks before I discovered that I had disabled a necessary permission.

    • @nancy021
      @nancy021 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To me those warnings mean, "If you don't allow this, Samsung will not be able to steal your data..." 😅 Unless you turn off a main part of the app settings, the phone will run fine. (For example if you don't allow voicemail to access your phone settings. How would VM work then? Use common sense!) If something doesn't work right, then undo the change you just made. If I'm looking at a few apps, I'll write down app names/setting so I can remember exactly what was changed.

    • @nancy021
      @nancy021 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your phone will not blow up if you change a needed setting. Phones are pretty much programmed so you can't have that much control without getting into the coding. Backup your phone if you're trying different things. So if you can't undo your changes you can restore the phone back to how it was right before you made any changes.

    The biggest frustration to me is auto cloud sync. These phones do not ask for your permission but just do it by default. When I got my phone, stuff was syncing to 3 different cloud services without my permission. I am all for cloud storage, but it should be OPT IN and not opt out. Remember, you have zero control over what Google, Samsung, Apple, Microsoft do with your private data.

      Be careful about that.
      Like a Laptop or Desktop. Be very careful about what permissions you allow and dont allow.

      In the end.
      Take step by steps notes of every button you push.
      Its caused severe damage I'm my past.
      I forgot where I went and what I did.

    I'm not sure why you guys characterized data usage in the background as a privacy issue. The app can still communicate when Wi-Fi is on, and it can still communicate whenever you open the app, even if Wi-Fi is off. so if it's collecting data, then it has plenty of opportunity to send that data back to the mothership, regardless of this setting. this particular permission is all about conserving your mobile data and your battery, nothing to do with privacy.

    Hi Davids....Thanks so much for your great videos. I just got a Samsung A14 5G and am attempting to follow your setup instructions closely. But I've encountered an area where I am befuddled and am hoping you can 'unfuddle' me. For example, I am now in Location Permissions and when I tick anything other than . "Allow all the time' the following message pops up: "If you deny this permission, basic features of your device may no longer function as intended. Choice of 'Cancel' or 'Don't allow anyway'. "Being basically stupid, I don't know how to proceed when I reach this point; hence the 'befuddlement'. Thanks much, Larry
