Another wonderful and entertaining video Rob, even though I've never been to an RSD. But just the meeting and interacting with other vinyl collectors sounds like it's worth it. Haven't bought vinyl in many years, but I'm pleased with the modest collection I've accumulated. Occasionally, I like to take an album out from storage and hold it in my hands, admiring the cover - especially the ones I'm most proud of owning. Gives me a nice, warm feeling.
Great video as always. I've cured myself of consumerism and now view these videos for entertainment purposes only. Despite these high prices and lack of quality releases, people will be more than willing to part with their hard-earned money to get them. Spending is addictive.
I might be down for that Beggar's Banquet, too. I only recently heard some of the Beggar's Banquet demos, and "Blood Red Wine"? My God! That blew me away! I really wish they had tweaked that one and finished it.
Man, us psych heads got the short end big time. I will be staying the hell home. Thanks for the heads up Robert. You inspire me to get my old channel up and running again.
Thanks for doing more of a descriptive video on the releases and not just giving names and prices. I like the extra insight and I find it helpful. There are a few I am interested in. And after watching your video, I can only remember two of them right now 🤔 I do wish the Canned Heat was from between 1970 and 1972 as far as the date it was originally recorded. But I'm going to hold off on that one right now. I bought a Canned Heat LP last year that was kind of a mix of old and new. I didn't even realize they were still touring until I saw some of the dates on the LP I bought. I do want to get that Joan Jett Up Your Alley. I remember two or three songs I liked on the album when I had the CD back in the late '80s. Actually I still have the CD but never had it on vinyl. I always liked that song Little Liar. Great memories of the girlfriend I had at that time. I'm also interested in the 2 LP Suzi Quattro. I guess she's kind of the European Joan Jett. I just hope that 2 isn't the same LP I bought a few months ago that was some of her B-sides. I didn't hear you mention the Fleetwood Mac Peter Greene era RSD release. I might be interested in that one but I need to stream it first. I would like to find something that was from around their 1970 era. I pre-ordered The Live in New Orleans 1970 LP, which was probably a bootleg I'm sure, but only a certain number of copies were made late last year. It's still in limbo on Amazon. I'd actually like to check out the Willie Dixon LP too. He influenced one of my favorite bands, Led Zeppelin, and I'd like to hear some of his blues. I didn't even realize he played at Woodstock. There were some others you mentioned but I need to go through the list again. Oh yeah, and you mentioned that Star ? band in that song that had the "ooh child" lyrics in it. Is that the song that goes on saying "things are going to get easier"? I don't remember where I first heard that song but I know I kind of liked it. Thanks again for the detail... I was only to Record Store Day one time. There was a line, and a long one at that. Most people had a whole armful of records, and there was this one woman who only had two record items, and she was asking people if she could get in front of them, since she only had two items. Nobody oblidged her and I thought "Good." The rest of us only found a bunch of crap in the FREE boxes and she found something really special. An Elvis album with his autograph on the back! I guess we all thought she had a lot of gall finding something like that and then to top it off, trying to get out of waiting her turn in line. It might have been interesting though to see what the store owners reaction would be if she told him about her Elvis find, which probably got mixed in with the free albums. The record store owner was a bit unusual. He looked many years older than he really was. Even a person in line was commenting how he looked 84 years old even though he was really only 48. No doubt a grizzled weather beaten survivor of first, the compact disc explosion, and then the invention of the ipod and downloading. I found a rare record of a talented classical concert violinist who died when his plane went down, along with his cello and oboe player. It made a little corner of the newspaper, it never made the TV or radio news. It would have to be a "Rock" group or rappers to make real headlines like that. They were only classical orchestral musicians. I also picked up a halfway decent copy of Ever Since The World Ended by that master of pessimism; Mose Allison. Maybe instead of having free records in boxes, maybe they could clear out a big area of floor space, and have everyone stand around in a circle. Then have 4 or 5 guys all of a sudden dump hundreds of records in the middle of the floor and watch all the people dive for them all at once. Maybe there could even be an Acoustic Sounds record mixed in with them for some added drama and excitement. There could be free aspirins for anyone who bumped heads too hard with someone else. Maybe instead of picture discs, they could make a disc with a picture on it that just looks like a big blur; until it spins at 33 and 1/3 rpm and comes into perfect focus.
I only go about once every 2 or 3 years. I figured it's been awhile so I would give this upcoming one a go. They used to only happen once a year, now it seems like every few months.
Robert you are a mess, but funny as hell. I love when you do this. You always call things out for what they are and that’s why I usually can’t wait to get your take, especially on Record Store Day stuff. Keep being who you are it is much appreciated and I love the rants!!!
You didn't mention The Donnas compilation. That's probably my first choice, and the Sundazed surf comp will definitely be added to my collection as well.
Love the blues Koko is a must have. You are right on with overpriced records. I love going to thrift stores picking up records for $1, cleaning them repairing the covers and enjoying the music. Love your videos.
I'm no longer buying vinyl because of cost and quality....but that POE release makes me want to stand in line. You can't get "Haunted" her second album (that features the song from Blair Witch 2 you mentioned) for less than $175 on vinyl. Another great video, Robert.
I bought “Haunted” for $40 at the time it came out and the price remained steady for quite a while after that. Didn’t know it was worth that much. I got lucky.
Appreciate you giving us a good run down for upcoming releases- definitely going for Koko Taylor ( I’m originally from Chicago). Being a Fab/ solo fan. Even though prices have gotten steeper- still need to get Red Rose Speedway 1/2 speed. Ringo’s Roses double vinyl. Also being a Dark Horse Records aficionado- Stairsteps rerelease is exciting
Have around 2600 albums and only 2 picture discs. One is the Gandalf picture disc in addition to the original Capitol copy. Guess I got this because i love the record and the trippy cover, but the sound quality on the picture disc is kind of bad. The second one at a record show here in Maryland I got a copy of DC Star which was a local band, inexpensive ten years back or so. Keep up the great work Rob!!!
Those picture discs you speak of, are just an over- hyped marketing blitzkrieg. Check out Soixante Etages, wall to wall, French guitar sound. Also, check out, Taang Records, out of Boston. Moving Targets, who I like, offer up so good bands.
Hey I've come across new vinyl with defects. I bought judas priest compilation, 50 years of metal maybe a year and a half ago. It's red vinyl. I noticed that there is very little room from the run off to the label. It makes my automatic return arm/needle scratch the record. It's a 2 record set and it does this on all 4 sides. And my rolling stones honk i can barely get on my spindle on my turntable. I had to bring home a reamer from work to open the hole up. I literally thought I was going to damage the record or my turntable trying to get the record off the spindle. Have you come across any similar defects?
I miss the "listening stations" they had at Tower . A few other music stores had them as well, although we're talking CDs. It really took the gamble out of buying duds. My favorite stores are the 3 Amoeba Records in San Francisco, Berkeley and Hollywood. Great places to spend hours checking out their inventory. Honestly, I haven't found I need to look at new stuff because my search and discovery of used material has no end in sight , yet.
You skipped Hip Hop. K Solo being re-released but I might be the only one that remembers him. I already own most of the one's that are already available. Including the Hal Blaine and Willie Henderson.
Really good video. Adding the prices gives helpful context, thanks! Although I was saddened to learn my coveted Macho Man record I procured a few months ago was not an official release. Instead of “ohhh yeahhh” it was “ohhh shit”. 🤦🏻♂️. I do know that VH is the first time on vinyl (officially), but I believe they are suggesting it’s that FOMO inducing “RSD exclusive”. We shall see there; $100 for a 4 disc meh recording is a fan service thing, IMO.
Another Wrecking Crew psychedelic exploitation is "More Psychedellic Guitars." Actually recorded a couple years before the movement, but it is still a great surf rock record from Jerry Cole.
@@RobertFithen I only have it on CD. I've been looking everywhere online to find an LP. But either I don't know where to look, or it never was released on vinyl. Still if you can only get the CD it's worth getting.
Usually laugh at RSD while feeling bad for the stores that get stuck with the overpriced releases that don't sell. A few I'm REALLY looking forward to this year: (note: I'm canadian) Junkhouse - Strays .. first time on LP, a GREAT record! I love all of Tom Wilson's art. 54-40 - Smilin' Buddha Cabaret... first time on vinyl Son Volt - Day Of The Doug... Sir Doug Sahm tribute. The Texas Tornadoes live record looks tempting too. Warren Zevon - The Wind... so expensive and hard to find
seriously a great video man! I'm thinking about getting the Stones album but I got to reissue from a few years ago the one that came with a extra 12-inch single of sympathy for the devil. I think I'm picking up the grateful Dead box set not that I need another grateful Dead box yet but I'm pretty sure I'm going to snag a copy of that. Koko Taylor is also on my want list ✌️🍻🎸
Can't mess with Koko Taylor. Her version of "Evil" is easily the greatest version of that song. Also, can't go wrong with "Begger's Banquet". I am one of those weird Poe fans. Her songs were great. If I can find a used copy with ring wear, I'd pay 20 for that. Cheers!
I find interesting this ones: Irish alternative rock band The Cranberries fifth album first time on vinyl from 2001. I think in US this album don’t have any big success, but in Europe it was really big at the time. Two albums from Italian goth metal band Lacuna coil. I was big fan of them in high school in mid-2000s like 2003-2005. But this more later albums, that I’m not familiar. Poe’s album for me very nostalgic. Especially this song from Blair Witch movie that was big on the radio in that time. Original mix of The Ramones Pleasure Dream with three bonus songs looks interesting. Garbage EP with new never released tracks also looks promising
Robert that Microphone looks a bit weird. Theres a couple metal records I would get maybe this RSD. The Roy Ayers and E-40 also look cool. But those prices.. I agree with you I hate all these lame picture discs and crap live recordings that dont need to be put out let alone on expensive vinyl. Im watching your vid and calculating all these prices higher for Canadian. Good rundown of soul, psych and blues
I think I am a "Pass" on this April's RSD. The nearest record store is 350 KM away and nothing on the list excites me enough to jump in the car and drive! Cheers
I have the Hal Blaine and it is not a frequent listen. I would like to get the Vintage Heat. It is their first recordings and Blind Owl is indeed on the album. It is only 24 minutes long though. Stop And Smell The Roses is a $40 turd. The Miles Davis will be great though it is a RSD First. The best RSD Psych gem is Marble Phrogg.
@@RobertFithen Marble Phrogg isn’t a Psych masterpiece but an oddball record from an unknown band with lots of covers. That is fine by me. I do agree, I remember Record Store Days filled with several rare Psych records.
Hey Robert , you should check the last Michael Fremer video where he exposes the most ridiculous set of hifi equipment I have ever seen. And guess what is his album of choice to listen to on it: Pet sounds! What else? hilarious.
Agree about "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" while I'm at I also prefer the single versions of "Light My Fire" "Love Me Two Times" "Moonlight Drive" "Riders On The Storm" The Who "Won't Get Fooled Again" "Who Are You" The single mono version of "Street Fighting Man" Sugarloaf's "Green-Eyed Lady" "Tongue In Cheek" there are many more. As far as Record Store Day I went to one years ago, waited in the rain, for the only store that participated in this scam and then was told we didn't get any of those or we only got two of them and they've already been sold. Never again
Valerie Carter covered Ooohhh Child. Forget that RSD, go out and pick yourself up a copy of Ry Cooder produced Bobby King and Terry Evans' great 1980s soul duo lp Live and Let Live, argueably one of Ry's greatest albums too. He plays guitar all over it and Jim Keltner bangs the drums.
Haha I hear ya on that Ringo album. I remember when I first heard “Back Off Boogaloo” and really liked it. Saw it on this album and bought it….only to find out the version on that album is a re-recording 😡 And the rest of the album is not good, either.
I’m hoping to pick up a copy of the *Elvis* record Burning Love, 1972 tour rehearsal. That’s it for me. I usually only find one record I’m interested in on the RSD list. Some years nothing at all and I just skip it.
Every RSD it is the same story. Yes every RSD the Cure releases a picture disc of one of their iconic albums, and EVERYONE complains. Yet every time, roughly 3-6 months later, they release a black vinyl version of that very same album. So if you don't want the PD, Then don't buy it. have patience, the the black vinyl will soon be on its way. Who are picture discs for? Well........ ME!! I'm Over 50 and the Cure is my favorite band. I have been collecting for many years, and have of over 100 Cure albums, singles, and bootlegs. Picture discs are a welcome addition to my collection. I personally buy both. I buy the picture disc for collecting, and the black vinyl for listening. On a side note this release "SHOW" and their last RSD Release "WISH" were both highly coveted by collectors, as neither have been repressed since the early 90's. For me they were the last 2 pieces to complete my collection, as I was not willing to spend hundreds of dollars on the original pressings. RSD 2017 - "Greatest Hits" - Got Black reissue shortly after RSD 2017 - "Greatest Hits Acoustic" Got Black reissue shortly after RSD 2018 - "Mixed up"- Got Black reissue ~3 months later RSD 2018 - "Torn Down" -Got Black reissue ~3 months later RSD 2020 - "Bloodflowers" - No Black Reissue as of yet RSD 2020 - "Seventeen Seconds" - Got Black Reissue, but not until 2022 RSD 2021 Drop 1 - "Faith" Got Black reissue about 5 months later RSD 2021 Drop 2 - "Wild Mood Swings" No Black reissue as of yet RSD 2022 - "Pornography" Got Reissue 3 months later. RSD 2022 Black Friday - "WISH" Got Black reissue ~1 month later
I thought George Harrison's label had a new LP set out also this year. What happened to that? I saw that, all but John Lennon from The Beatles, had a solo re-release coming out this year on RSD.
That Strawberry Alarm Clock would have been a definite for me if they had put it on colored, big miss, RSD. I expect some of the overpriced stuff will be available at better prices in a couple of years.
Would been nice if u reviewd or said something about below releases on RIP OF DAY I'm in Australia where u get really screwed Bob marley 7 stir it up / instrumental 47.99 Bob marley 7 Mr chatterbox/dub 47.99 Nearly 50 bucks for a bloody 7 inch really Peter tosh live and dangrous Boston 76 2XLPS 94.99 So Almost 200 bucks for a handful of vinyl Crazy
After watching the latest Guncles video where Mike mentions the Hal Blaine LP I went to streamed it and...yeah...not so great. Great album cover, though!
Robert, I am really digging your take on overpriced vinyl records. It is amazing how expensive this stuff has gotten and unfortunately for some, the price creep has been going up so seamlessly like heat going up without a poor frog realizing that he is being cooked alive.
Speaking of "out there" off the wall sh!t, Robert, have you heard the album "Moldy Goldies" by Col. Jubilation Johnston & His Mystic Knight's Band & Street Singers? They do parody versions of Monday, Monday and Good Lovin' ...it's hilarious as I recall...just don't listen sober
Picture discs are for the kids. They're trying to pull in the younger crowd, nothing wrong with that. The Swifties might like the picture discs, and there's lots of them out there.🤣When's the long version of Inna Gadda Da Vida coming out? 20 minutes just isn't enough.I agree that the price of new vinyl has risen a lot but so has inflation and the war on fossil fuels hasn't helped.
I’d like to get The Sword-Gods of the Earth, because all I’ve got of that is burned onto a CD. I would like to get the Wolf and Muddy albums. I’d like to get the VH 4 LP, if only for the extra unreleased songs, because I already have the CDs. This has a special place in my heart, because I saw them live supporting this release and Eddie’s solo spot made me a fan. I don’t know if I’d like VH as much if I hadn’t went to that show.
This list does nothing for me, only thing i think i want is the Chet Baker - Chet which is mono put out by Craft Recordings but i don't see standing in line for it. Totally agree on the picture disk. I think RSD needs an over haul. Put i know I'm probably in the minority in that thinking because i love the whole standing in line and i work nights and get off at 6am so i usually go straight from work to my local store and get in in line and get my stuff and go home to go to bed because i have to wake up in a few hours to get up for work.
The only day I specifically avoid record stores. Colored vinyl and picture discs are garbage. Hahaha. I would love to be the toadie backing you up here…
You are spot on as usual. When it comes to Picture disc, they are like the TV show the View. They exist you just don't know why
In Brett Milano's book Vinyl Junkies he calls those the collector's plates of the vinyl world.

Warren Zevon - The Wind... so expensive and hard to find
This psyche France comps r crap
The live album I’m excited about is DIIV live at the MrrMrr theater very good
You forgot the John Lennon box set in the Beatles section
Red Rose Speedway was originally supposed to be a double lp..........if they re- release it that way I'd pick it up.
It came out as a remastered double album in 2018. Perhaps look for that?
seriously a great video man!
The Motley Crue picture disc looks like it's just a reprint because I had the same one in the mid 80"s. It was around 6 or 7 bucks too at the time.
I'm off most live albums too, but the Albert Ayler box is tops of my list, along with Miles and Off.
Only thing I'm interested in is Dolly Parton The Monument Singles 1964-1968
I was interested in that, but then I saw the price of $36 and I think I'll pass. I already have her first album and the 2-lp Monument comp.
Cheers!
The Orville Peck original album was a 2 LP release, so I'm assuming the RSD one is as well.
I find interesting this ones:
Irish alternative rock band The Cranberries fifth album first time on vinyl from 2001.
Garbage EP with new never released tracks also looks promising
great vid
Thanks!
Poe-hello and Van Halen right now live are huge for me
I'm also baffled why they're putting out so many picture discs. I don't know anyone that buys them!
There wasn't any demo's in the stones banquet deluxe fyi
You're right, it was just a 7" single for "Sympathy For The Devil". I may end up getting that one instead.
This was an excellent.
Thanks!!
@@RobertFithen sorry for the typo lol but you got me
I think I am a "Pass" on this April's RSD.
The 60s studio percussionist gem is Bob & Phil And The Orchestra - Hot Line For Sound (Musical Explorations In Beats...Bongos...Boffs).
@@mick5137 Is that going to be a RSD release.
I overlooked the Marble Phrogg because it didn't have artwork. You are right.
What else? hilarious.
I’ve never participated in RSD. Though a couple of those albums sound interesting. Like you I’d like to see more psych stuff.
I wish that was the case. You used to see more rare psyche re-issues years ago.
Well!!! Robert Maybe A Few..... Soul Stuff Yes !!!!
How much will the doors be worth
Never again
The Orville Peck is a double album, but I only paid $27 dollars for the original black vinyl release.
I didn't realize it's a double album, but I've seen it for around that price, too. That's why I think $46 is a bit ridiculous.
Thank you! Weren't the Elton John Master tapes lost in a fire? These prices are insane.
@@ergloo6660🤣🤣🤣
Valerie Carter covered Ooohhh Child. Forget that RSD, go out and pick yourself up a copy of Ry Cooder produced Bobby King and Terry Evans' great 1980s soul duo lp Live and Let Live, argueably one of Ry's greatest albums too. He plays guitar all over it and Jim Keltner bangs the drums.
I would stand in line for the less than zero soundtrack. But only if it’s a used copy for 9.99
Are picture disc's bad? I don't own any. I have a few colored disc's. But it's really nothing by choice. I wouldn't pay extra for them.
Haha I hear ya on that Ringo album. I remember when I first heard “Back Off Boogaloo” and really liked it. Saw it on this album and bought it….only to find out the version on that album is a re-recording 😡 And the rest of the album is not good, either.
I will take a picture disc sometimes IF it's an album I don't care much about AND it's cheaper.
I never trust a holiday that is younger than me! That said, Chet mono, nothing else.
I don't think it's a holiday because the mail still runs. lol
How are you getting price listings 1 month in advance?
I have connections.
I’m hoping to pick up a copy of the *Elvis* record Burning Love, 1972 tour rehearsal. That’s it for me. I usually only find one record I’m interested in on the RSD list. Some years nothing at all and I just skip it.
Same here. I save a lot of money that way.
RSD first doesn’t always mean that. Tha Dogg Pound Dogg Food (1995) had an RSD FIRST that never got reissued and now goes for over $100 bones.
RSD 2017 - "Greatest Hits" - Got Black reissue shortly after

So, it's you!
Broken Social Scene, Slum Village, Raphael Saadiq…I don’t know, seems like there’s some quality stuff if your taste lean towards the 2000s.
I thought George Harrison's label had a new LP set out also this year. What happened to that? I saw that, all but John Lennon from The Beatles, had a solo re-release coming out this year on RSD.
The John Lennon re-issue was just a compilation, but this time it's on 10" records.
Thank you, Robert!!!!
Picture discs suck.
Excited about the Poe first time on vinyl!
GONG AND HAWKWIND BRO!
I got a CD reissue of that Hal Blaine thing years ago. Good enough. The Miles Davis thing is most interesting to me
For the Van Halen Live album they went the Kiss way and re-recorded the whole album in studio. So it’s technically not a live album at all😅
Wow! It sounds horribly over-done with the echo and bass. The fact that it's fake even makes it worse.
That Strawberry Alarm Clock would have been a definite for me if they had put it on colored, big miss, RSD. I expect some of the overpriced stuff will be available at better prices in a couple of years.
Would been nice if u reviewd or said something about below releases on RIP OF DAY
I'm in Australia where u get really screwed
Bob marley 7 stir it up / instrumental 47.99
Bob marley 7 Mr chatterbox/dub
47.99
Nearly 50 bucks for a bloody 7 inch really
Peter tosh live and dangrous Boston 76 2XLPS 94.99
So Almost 200 bucks for a handful of vinyl
Crazy
Canned Heat Vintage sounds good to me
It's a great, raw sounding album, but I just wanted people to know what it really was.
You didn't mention Dr. Taylor Alison Swifts' album which will be the greatest RSD release ever next to the Peppa Pig soundtrack!
Summer Rental? The one with John Candy? Better yet, was there even a soundtrack to Summer Rental? If this is legit then that's news to me.
Yes, the one with John Candy. The RSD soundtrack is real. lol
After watching the latest Guncles video where Mike mentions the Hal Blaine LP I went to streamed it and...yeah...not so great. Great album cover, though!
I'm glad I streamed some of it first, I would have been very disappointed to buy that.
Maybe this year they'll release the soundtrack to 1993's Philadelphia starring Tom Hanks.
Robert, I am really digging your take on overpriced vinyl records. It is amazing how expensive this stuff has gotten and unfortunately for some, the price creep has been going up so seamlessly like heat going up without a poor frog realizing that he is being cooked alive.
Great analogy.
Haven't heard it. I'll have to check it out sometime.
The new vinyl prices in 2023 are ridiculous !
And will most likely only get more ridiculous.
You didn't cover ANY of my RSD List lol
We won't be fighting over the same albums.
I see all ages complaining about picture discs. I looked it up and Taylor Swift only has one picture disc LP. lol
@@RobertFithen Only one? What a shame.
Is the Wrecking Crew not the Beach Boys? 😀🤪
Yes, with fireman helmets. lol
The only day I specifically avoid record stores. Colored vinyl and picture discs are garbage. Hahaha. I would love to be the toadie backing you up here…
