Steering the focus away from RSD releases and onto the used bins and grails was a nice touch. Fingers crossed you get that Miles. I’d love me a mono Chet.
Bob, the scary thing about the vinyl resurgence is the prices! Your comments about budget, value and hype are incredibly valid. Back in 85 I replaced many of my worn LPs with new, at an average cost of $5/LP, that is $15 in today's money. In the intervening years I purchased CDs from Columbia House at an average cost of $7/CD. For over 10 years my local Newbury Comics store had Fantasy OJC & OBC overstock for $4 or $6 per CD. I have had only one major cull (100 CDs) of my collection, so I made good choices. I hope everyone else is being as careful.
Good advice Bob for young ones, I'm sticking to my guns and just picking up the Jazz Dispensary title. Those are my favorites and my fave jazz funk instrumental music. I learned my lesson a long time ago being a early RSD customer from 2012. I know your not into cds but those Miles Davis extra bonus tracks are all on beautiful box sets especially the On The Corner box is a must. What they give you on the vinyl releases is a tiny portion of what you can get on the cd boxes. My Jack Johnson release was warped and I wasn't the only one, many people complained about that.
Was going to make a video but realized it's tomorrow. I have to skip it. I live near only one reputable store, but it is TINY with very little to choose from. The only other option is taking my life into danger going to Portland. There's a soundtrack that randomly appeared on the RSD list that I've wanted forever, but only 1,000. My last RSD I spent around $60 only. 1 RSD release in store purchase and one online. I found Depeche Mode Violator re-release for $25 at the store new on RSD. Thanks for the video. I no longer have FOMO.
The Miles and Doctor Who LPs are really the only 2 I’m hunting. I have the Champion Miles from a few years ago, do I have the companion record to it, no. But maybe one day
Astute observation. This weekend I went to Rasputin Records in Berkeley, and concentrated on the used stuff. I got a beautiful 5-LP French-pressing box set of Ella Fitzgerald doing the George & Ira Gershwin song book for $25. I got Freddie Hubbard, Jimmy Smith, and Blossom Dearie albums for $1 each. A little work with the Spin Clean and the HumminGuru, and these sound amazing. I spent $50, and needed two bags to carry all the records home.
You’re right about the sticker shock, prices keep going up each year. Can I ask where you find the listed prices ahead of time? I never seem to be able to find this, which makes the shock even worse when there in line.
My picks are A flock of seagulls b side and rarities, Brian Eno, forever voiceless, the fall live 1977, ost David Shire the conversation, and Stewart Copeland, Klark Kent.
I say the Miles is a must, just shocked that there is only one track on there that's not on the 2007 box set. I would pick up the Larry Coryell Introducing The Eleventh House, that was there first album definitely a classic. Hard to stay one budget.
Killer video and some great points🤔 I remember my last RSD....they had 3 tables set up with the new releases and everyone went there and it was 4 deep....store had all used vinyl at 15% off...trickled over to the other part of the store and picked up a bunch of used grails at a discount👍 On a sidenote: Your editing skills on the videos are getting top notch....the calculator visual was a great touch on conveying how expensive this day can get VERY quickly to the 'ol the bank account...😳
Excited about the Pearl Jam record. Always look forward to seeing your lastest pickups! That UK Madcap is fantastic, congrats. Thanks for the video Bob
Any day at the record store is RSD..Deciding what to buy on RSD can be a dilemma or can cause anxiety because of “The Money Situation” $$$$$!! So think it through, decide what you want and live it. I know FOMO is a factor but remember have patience because there will be more records to buy in the future. Great Video Bob…..✌
Love it and I am happy you included the devil's advocate position because with the prices creeping higher and higher... there isn't a lot to differentiate between going for broke for the latest Bill Evans concert and leaving with a really nice, hard to come by wall record ($80 is a lot of scratch, however you choose to spend it). Have a good RSD, sir.
At this point I wouldn't be upset at all if I missed all of the RSD releases but its always a fun to be in the shops anyway. Just cause there will likely be other amazing records being put out, as you have said. I typically find something pretty killer on RSD in the New Arrivals. That said, the On The Corner sessions would probably be the one I may grab since I love that record so much. We shall see. Take care Bob!
Well said. People get caught up in the RSD exclusivity, buy stuff, take it home and listen to it once and on the shelf it goes. Unfortunately I’ll be out of town and unable to participate this year. If I could I’d get the Chet, The Pogues, Muddy Waters @ Woodstock & the Warren Zevon. Oh well, there’s always next year. Good luck
Hi Bob, a good point and well made. Along similar lines, the question I always ask myself about RSD is, if this wasn’t an RSD release but was just sitting in the racks, would I buy it? This pretty much cures me of wanting anything on RSD (except for the good value soul compilations like Chicago ‘67 which are lovingly compiled, with beautiful covers). Anyone thinking of shelling out £400 for the John Lennon 10 inch vinyl box of tracks they already own 4 times over needs help! Greetings from London.
Great video as always Bob and good food for thought. While I like to support my local brick and mortar stores, I have definitely over the last couple years dialed back my RSD spending to 1-2 records. Of course, I always get them Jazz Dispensary records and Bill Evans releases because can you possibly have too many Bill Evans records? But your point is well made. I hope you have a terrific RSD as well and walk out with that Bill Evans 😉
Hi Bob, I agree with on the corner. I have the CD box set so I have this music but it’s Mikes so there you go. I do buy less RSD titles as most I don’t always listen to that much. I would rather chase a grail. This is exactly what I was going to talk about on my Thursday video.
Pearl Jam tend to attract the flippers .. I would grab it quickly if you see it. The Taylor crowd will probably be in & out quickly. Have a good time ! ✌️
Pearl jam definitely do , the year the unplugged came out this tranny person was trying to buy them all at my local and it caused a big fight lol I just stood back and watched him (man dressed as a woman ) beat up like 3 other guys was crazy lol the tranny was in the right tho as he was trying to put them back but the record nerds got mad ,anyway he was a nice guy I spoke to him after and offered my copy but he declined.
Thanks, Bob! Fantastic vid, man 👍🎶 I fortunately am not exactly rabid for any RSD releases, and as you showed, it gets pricey and quickly! lol The records I’m looking for are already out there for the most part. But…I have no doubt, if I were to go to RSD, I’d break the bank…. Again, thanks for the excellent vid, Bob. Options are good, and considering options is a good thing to do. 🔊😊🎶
Honestly, this year’s RSD has the most releases I’ve wanted out of all the years I’ve been collecting! I’m in the UK so the list is quite different over here, the one I’m looking forward to most is the soundtrack of the UK kids cartoon Mr Benn. The show was from 1971 and has never had a soundtrack release til now, so I’m massively hyped. I’ve also got my eyes on Doctor Who, Death, Black Sabbath and others!
I know, the UK list always trounces the list over here … that said it’s pretty strong this year, a little something for everyone I believe. Good luck out there!
Bob, curious what your thoughts are on the Vinyl Me, Please electric Miles anthology that was announced. Do you think that's worth it? Or are early pressings of those albums still accessible and affordable? I am looking to start expanding my vinyl collection into this phase of Miles and not sure what strategy to go for.
I’m sure it’s very nice, I think it’s a great value and will be well done. Most of the records in the box if found clean would be 40-50 easy, maybe more. You could just try to find them in the wild and have the originals. There is something to be said for perfect records that play very quiet.. I don’t think you can go wrong here. Cheers
@@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL Thanks, Bob! I may try my luck in the wild (even if that needs to include some forays into Discogs). I agree the VMP anthology is good value, but it's not always easy to drop all that cash at once... sometimes more manageable going one album at a time. This is of course true of all box sets and what I truly hate about box sets.
I'm picking up the CD versions of RSD Bill Evans, Sonny Stitt, Walter Bishop Jr, Chet Baker and Shirley Scott and they all come at a pretty penny. I would hate to think how much the vinyl copies would cost for that lot.
If I were to participate I would be zeroed in on Chet, Chet Holland, Bill Evans, and the Jazz Dispensary. I just don’t think I want to fork out the dough this year.
I must have the worst luck when it comes to Zeppelin - I can NEVER find good Zeppelin Pressings in the bins for anything less then $50 - I feel like most Brick and Mortar stores over charge vs. Discogs and anything Popular - PF, LZ, Beatles, etc - just gets an immediate $40 price tag just per the name - and if its even remotely in good shape - regardless of pressing - its over $75.
Rsd is easy we all have are list of records that we would like to get you just have to have a top 3 or 4 that you must have the others on your list you only get if you can't get your top 3 or 4 I have 10 items on my list I can't get them all if I don't get my top 4 then I'll jus go down my list until my 200 budget is reached then that's it
This was my first watch of your channel and your video is excellent. You can't lose tomorrow with all the options that you mentioned.
Thanks Michael!
Love this comment. Look around people. ❤
I Loved the ending. Their's a few records I regret buying that weren't quality on previous rsd's
Much appreciated:)
Steering the focus away from RSD releases and onto the used bins and grails was a nice touch. Fingers crossed you get that Miles. I’d love me a mono Chet.
Every day is Record Store Day! Have fun, Bob! I hope you get all your picks! Love the videos.
Neal thank you and good luck on RSD!
Great video, Bob. And sage advice. As always, it's great to see a bunch of beautiful vinyl from your collection. Enjoy RSD! Good luck, happy hunting.
Have a great RSD!

I agree with what you’re saying here. Don’t get sucked into rsd open your eyes. Great records are everywhere
Thanks Rob, we both know it can happen to the best of us ;) cheers
You’re on point with this video, Bob. There are many ways to Record Store Day.
