a1guitars I get the Mickey Mouse thing at Guns concert. But he sounds almost perfect here. I don’t get how he can sound like mickey mouse with Guns, but perfect here
Really wish that AC/DC would release a compilation DVD of the best Axl performances. They are literally keeping his best vocal performances of the last 20 years in a vault. They definitely have a mass of pro-shot/pro-audio material buried.
Saw this twice in germany and it was way better then my first ACDC show with Brian back in 2009. Band was on fire, more Bon songs, way stronger voice IN key etc
I was at this show. AC/DC fan in a "greatest hits" context. But Axl is my main man, and has been since about 7th grade. This was the most fun rock show I ever saw. My guy brought the fire all night.
GNR just has a lot of parts now that are kinda hard for axl now cause he's older now its just like that for some people their bodies change and stuff but acdc doesn't have alot of screams and stuff
Damn… Axl is an amazing fit for Ac/Dc. That voice is like a chainsaw. Raw and powerful. Good work Axl. I still love Scott and Johnson. But Considering the strange circumstances that led to this. I think it’s such a cool thing to have the singer of one of the biggest rock bands ever, sing for another one of biggest rock bands ever.
He masterminded a band that should have been the successor to the Rolling Stones. Dudes like that get tons of forgiveness and endless second chances. I really wish we could've gotten that album they were working on in the mid 90s when everything fell apart. Sorum said there was a lot of piano and orchestral stuff. I bet it would've gone in the direction of Estranged-type songs. How fucking sweet would that have been? Axl was getting really good at making grand compositions...
Axl was amazing! I was at this show and was completely blown away! At first I thought he wasn't any good but that changed instantly after I attended the show.
I remember going with my brother to see GNR live in Argentina and Axl sounding just like this, what a pleasure it was, seemed like listening them back in '92...incredible, can't quite comprehend why he tends to go into Mickey mousse mode sometimes, it's such a shame...still, Axl will forever remain one the best rock singers ever to me.
AC/DC are Axl's heroes and I think he felt he needed and wanted to really deliver on these dates and boy did he! This was a blessing to my ears. Thank you.
I remember going to the giants stadium reunion of gnr (mets) seeing more people than I've ever seen in my life. That year Axl did more for rock than anyone's done in 15 years ... saved ac/dc and did the gnr reunion. He gets so much hate... when this guy is gone tell me who will be left as a rock giant? Appreciate him he is a badass singer, and a beacon for rnr.
The AC/DC stuff is mostly in one particular register and tone for the most part. The GN'R material is much more diverse, even over a few lines of one song. Whilst it's obviously still a hell of a challenge to sing like that, with the AC/DC songs he didn't need to change too much and could concentrate just on that one voice.
Even though it's great to see Axl in this tour, he lost his voice because of this and never recovered. I wish he wouldn't have done other than the first show.
The best thing Axl ever did IMO. Unselfishly pulling AC/DC salt meat outta the fire and really putting these songs - especially Brian Johnson's stuff - over. Helluva job, Axl.
he's trying so hard to give these people what they want. You can see it in his face, and his voice. His face is turning red, and his voice is raspier than it was in the 80's (duh)
I saw the show in Buffalo that Axl did. In all my years seeing AC/DC since 1988, I would say the Axl show was the greatest one. The band had more energy, there seemed to be the urge to change up the set - honestly it was night and day between that and the first leg of the tour with Brian which I caught in Detroit.
To those who say he sounds bad, you probably should have seen him live on the tour if you want to say that. Cell phone audio is not that good. For example, I thought Angus sounded terrible when he performed as a guest with Guns in Sydney, until I found a better recording that proved to me otherwise. It's all down to how close they sat to a speaker in the crowd and how good the phone's mic is (hint: cell phone mics are terrible). When we hear soundboard audio of this performance, then you reserve the right to call it bad. Until then, you can't assume the performance was either spectacular or terrible unless you yourself were there. The best thing we have is the word of the uploader, as they were there and saw it firsthand. Why do you think we have live DVDs and albums instead of always listening to cell phone audio? Because it sounds bad.
You are correct, I´ve been looking for some mixing desk recording because of it, to check the real thing, because he did receive many compliments along the tour.
He just crushed it!! Love or hate Axl, he kept the tour going that way fans wanted it. His humility of staying out of the way of the main guys is a side of him many have never seen.
His voice don't have much left to begin with but the GnR' stuff requires so much it just taxes the shit out of him. AC/DC singing is a bit less taxing so long as you can hit that one register that Johnson is in all the time.
Cause Axl has to answer to Angus whom expects 100% otherwise Axl can hit the road jack. Axl respects the hell out of Angus. you can tell. Slash and the boys are just grateful to tour with him as Guns and don't have the same impact on Axl like Angus does... that was lost a long time ago. I'm a huge Axl fan and it bugs me how terrible he'll sing with Guns. Almost like its deliberate. I do what I want boss kind of attitude. To me he seems to have more fun signing with ACDC. Maybe less pressure I don't know.
"Luciano Román Fernández León 1 year ago 'bustergoldenrod when comes to higher notes, axl manages to distortion his voice very powerfully (my Michelle for example) but on medium notes axl voice losses straight/power at his age. Fortunately most (every) ac/dc songs are on very high vocal notes, very comfortable for axl.' "
Keith Tyther No, certainly not. He's just always able to use his high register with AC/DC on Brian's work because he was a monster when it came to vocals. In Guns he has to use his mid-range vocals a lot more. If you watch Guns N' Roses doing Nightrain or the intro to Welcome To The Jungle he sounds really good because his low and high register are nearly as good as they once were, but due to years of smoking everything in between has gotten so much worse, like in November Rain. It's not that he chooses not to sing this well for Guns N' Roses; he just isn't capable of using his full range as well anymore. Lucky for him most of Brian's stuff doesn't require his full range. You can hear on a lot of Bon's work, however, his voice is noticeably worse as Bon Scott used a lot of his mid-range.
Axl rose has a natrual bass voice and he uses the upper register of his chest voice to hit those notes. The rasp comes from his mask and using a similar technique that many screamers use. It's a damaging vocal technique if used in excess. It's not sustainable especially at an old age. On tour axl has to refrain from using his rasp in order to save his voice. If he could always sing like this without damaging his voice beyond repair he would.
Axle rose is the greatest singer in rock history to me many mite not agree and that’s fine but damn I wish I could see him with ac/dc again this show was fukin amazing
-Welcome to the interview, What do you do for a living?
-I am the frontman in Guns N' Roses.
-Any part time ?
-I'm the singer in AC/DC

Axl sounds good with ACDC because probably this was his favorite childhood bands and he was having fun.
Also it was a big challenge try "remplace" to Brian. He couldn't fall

Actually queen is his favourite band but AC/DC are among his favourites as well
