Hi Eric and Emily Great subject that really got me thinking about our past Christmas trees. This year we broke down and purchased our first fake tree. I don't know about tree prices in you area but here in southern California $ 200-250 for a 7' tree forced our decision. But our first was the best tree ever. While stationed in wuertzburg germany it was our first Christmas together. We lived off post in a little berg outside of town named eisengen. Having no car this posed a logistics problem on transporting our tree from the PX to our little 1 bedroom duplex 10 miles to eisengen. We convinced our taxi driver to strap the tree on top of his cab to make the trip home. Of course we tipped him well. That night setting up the tree and decorating it is one of our great life memories.we decorated with ornaments we bought from open markets in town sent to us by family and gifted to us by friends we had made while in country. 40 years later some of those ornaments still survive and are on our tree right now. It always brings back memories of those times how carefree and uncompleted life was back then. We didn't need anything but each other, that hasn't changed.
Ah, this is so great. Thanks for sharing! We lived in San Diego right after Covid and made the same decision to buy a fake tree. Glad to know we’re in good company! 😊
