First time playing this one, and its a popular request from many of you, so thank you for the suggestion. The unique combo battle system is easily the most stand-out and enjoyable part of this game, and one I see very rarely in any game outside of fighters. I have to nitpick two things though; their ages are listed as Vahn (14), Noa (12) and Gala (21) and their models Really make me think they're 6 years older each (20/18/27). Also, the game states Vahn is the leader and implies Gala is the muscle and Noa is the face .... but really, based on the writing and in practice, Gala is the leader, Noa is the muscle, and Vahn is the face of the party. Shoutout to a good fishing minigame, I do enjoy those a lot.
Coulda sworn Gala was 18. Oddly, Gala was the mage for me; if I recall correctly, he has the highest intelligence/wisdom. But yeah, it's interesting how they break tropes in that sense. Noa is a beast.
Seeing this makes me happy beyond belief. Legend of Legaia was the game that got me into JRPGs and is one of my all-time favourites - yet remains strangely obscure in this day and age despite honestly being one of the best JRPGs of all time.
That would be awesome. I doubt it will happen though because even the original wasn't very well known. How about that FF7 Remake though? Im SO excited for that.
i agree with mazda, prokion already dead. if ever someone make remaster/remake of this game. i bet someone from prokion/ someone related to them gonna sue the maker (yeah it's all money again).
It wasn't my first video game as I had a desktop computer before I owned a Playstation. (Windows 95, anybody ? ... Original doom ? ... No ? ) It was one of the first titles I bought when I got my console, though. I absolutely loved it. I think its relative lack of popularity is due to timing. FF7 was out too and probably overshadowed it because the FF series was already well established and had an incredible fan base, so most people bought it first. I was able to replay it a couple of times before my Playstation died, and then once more on my computer with an emulator. It would be really fun if Steam or GOG picked it up and re-released it. Would definitely buy it again.
I remember picking this up in a bargain bin, not knowing what it was and what I had in store. Great time! What blew my mind is that they had all this content on just one disc!
Jordan Stewart yea it was on PS2. It’s a sequel in name and combat system only as midway during development the OG team left so another team picked it up to finish and changed to story around so it wasn’t linked to the previous game. It’s called Legaia 2 Duel Saga it’s still really good.
Something interesting the Legaia Wiki states is that in terms of stats, Noa has the highest speed and agility, Gala has the highest intelligence, attack, and upper defense and Vahn is the middle for everything but lower defense, which he has the highest in. If it's true, then that's amazing. His father lost the use of his legs, so he would work them twice as hard, even if he was doing it subconsciously. I don't know if it is true, but it would be amazing if it is!
The damage Noa dealt was pretty average until she got her miracle arts. Her bird step attack was absolutely killer and the one I relied on the most. Her high agility made her meter fill faster so she could use it more often, too. Vaughn and Gala's miracle arts seemed lackluster by comparison, and I usually stuck to their higher end attacks or strung a couple of their mid tier attacks into a combo of sorts. Loved this game.
My childhood right here! A great game and extremely underrated. THIS deserves the same HD remake treatment Final Fantasy VII is getting. Good music, story, characters, lore, and unique gameplay. Legend of Legaia deserves way more love and I hope Sony feels the same. 😍😎
This was my first game ever !! I loved that when you got new equipment it would reflect on your character and change their outfit in those days it was rare a game did that ^_^ super nostalgia attack.

Man, I remember sitting on my bedroom floor playing this on a 13" CRT while listening to the first 2 Marvelous 3 albums. It's a very specific memory. Haha. Anyway, great game even if you end up using the same attack combos over and over towards the end. Thanks for the recap!

My mom bought this game in a yard sale for 25c for my little brother back in 2001 but he didn’t even play games lol. I never liked RPGs at that time until I was bored and decided to try it out. This became my favorite game. Then I played Guardians Crusade and finally I moved up to FFVII and FFX and pretty much every RPG there was out. I was 13/14 then and now I’m 36 🥴. I played this game so much as a kid and never was able to get further than brion monastary... this game ended up convoluted as all heck but I still love it
I watched this since I suddenly remembered this game and had forgotten what the motivations of the villains was. Turns out it was complicated enough that my teenage self probably didn't understand it anyway. Anyway thanks to this video I can move on with my life.
This game and the legend of dragoon, best games ever made, and very under-rated, the stories are amazing, the artwork, the music, the idea of it, the specialized battle systems, sure your literally going back and forth but there's just something nice about it, and there's more input for/during attacks than other games, I wanna see these 2 games updated but keep battle systems and pretty much everything these games are, I just wanna see the art come to life
That moment when internet is not a thing back then and just suddenly discovered a miracle arts for the first time.. Oh boy, my excitement at that time was unmeasurable..
This is my favorite game of all time. I grew up playing it, and still play it to this day. The story line is amazing, and still captures my imagination to this day. I really wish the sequel would have followed the same storyline/universe. As much as I would love an HD remake of this, I highly doubt it will ever happen. Will have to see what happens with the reddit remake.
This, is quality content. I remember first playing this at my friend's house in elementary school. Begged my mom to get me a PlayStation that Christmas and got this as my first game along with a purple mad catz memory card. Top tier game.
I'm currently playing it, in the beginning I was a bit sceptical but it's quite fun, the story is solid and the characters unique. I do love noa, with the seru named terra. Her reactions and ways of seeing life and the willingness to do good is heart striking.
I always saw this game sitting on the used game shelf of my local Electronic Boutique way when I was a teen picking up an extensive collection of PlayStation RPGs, but I never ended up buying it for some reason. There were always other new or used RPGs that looked more interesting, so I always overlooked Legaia. It's good to finally know the story I missed out on.

to anyone reading this, you are unique, you are special. You are special and unique because you played this game. This game taught me many moral values throughout life. the most rewarding game I played so far. I still remember playing this for the first time and with a very good walkthrough from a friend that showed me the best way to play it with all the miracle arts and getting the final form of Meta, Tera and Ozma and getting all elemental summon well, except for juggernaut because it requires you to be level 99.
My favorite JRPG of ALL TIME! So good to see someone doing such an awesomely detailed video about it. I thank you.. from the bottom of my heart.. I thank you. Also check out my Legaia Let's Play if you want! A lot of people seem to like it. xD
I never knew about the light novel! I'll have to take a look around, see if I can't track it down. Our disagreement aside, I'm immensely pleased by the quality of your RECAPitation of this game. I remain surprised that it took 35 minutes, since this was a relatively short RPG compared to other releases in the PlayStation era and most of this game's run-time is used to grind levels and currency. Legend of Legaia met my 'Gain my interest in the first hour' with a wonderfully done prologue with the revivification of the Genesis Tree. One of the most effective elements of this game is how it shows you the effects of the Mist on the common people. Being possessed by the insane Seru is never shown to be anything but horrific and painful for the victims. I also enjoy that not all the story is explicitly stated, but rewards astute players with the early revelation that the Ra Seru are being used to create the Mist. What happened in Vidna is also foreshadowed by a civilian within the town who states the magma is what powers the windmills. Just lovely bits of writing like that, I think, helps make this game stand out. :D Conkram... God, that place. The environment went above and beyond the horrors of possessed existence by the Seru shown in every other city enveloped in Mist up until this moment. Supremely done, if you ask me. It's only going to get worse when Rim Elm is taken by the Juggernaut. Fun fact: If you visit Octam while your entire party is Level 99, you gain a new spell that enables the summoning of an evil Seru: Juggernaut itself. It's a massive grind that I've never undertaken, but it is a neat reward. Fabricated the Time Space Bombs, huh? I guess you enjoyed a certain game you streamed recently. ALSO YEAH! I love those role calls that you do! :D Anyways, a beautiful RECAPitation as always. I'm on my way to meet you on the next battlefield.
I really enjoyed this video! thank you :) Brought me right back to my childhood. I was happy to read in the comments that my memory of every boss being enormously difficult is accurate. I remember grinding for each one, and when I finally overcame them, the feeling was fantastic. Kind of like a more difficult, RPG version of souls games.
