I recently has sever sepsis, a PE and pneumonia all at the same time, I did not have a fever. Not everyone who gets sepsis or other infections gets a fever. I had extreme chills, mottled skin, diarrhea extreme weakness couldn’t breathe (PE). I had passed out or blacked out at home.
At the hospital my BP went down hill and my kidneys were not doing well. My whole body blew up. I gained 30 pounds in 2 days in ICU, due to inflammation. I was put on a broad spectrum antibiotics. My oxygen level was very low. Then had PE removed. I stayed 4 days in the hospital.
I’m very thankful to God and the medical team that saved me.

Had my eyes not turn yellow what I thought was just chills kills me, called triage nurse, told her what I was going through she told me sorry hun you HAVE to go to the ER, it was my gallbladder sepsis was severe removal of Gallbladder, heavy anitbiotics through IV then 14 days on tablet. this was october 14 2023, on the road to recovery long road but the journey to see this through is very hopeful;

Same here! Got sepsis a few months ago from a UTI. I had no idea, I just thought it was a bad case of the flu. But something was just very wrong, strange severe pain all over (especially in the hips/pelvis), rashes on my stomach and face. Was hospitalized for a week and then took about another month to fully recover.
My grandfather died of sepsis. The pain he experienced at the end was traumatizing. Glad you got through it.

I got an std from my cheating ex but was asymptomatic, didnt know until i was in the ER diagnosed with septic shock, i ended up spending 4 days in the ICU. my blood profusion issues led to a hypoxic brain injury and ive been dealing with the brain damage ever since. Very lucky to be alive and im eternally grateful to my doctors who worked incredibly hard to keep me alive!!

Anything is possible any type of bacterial or viral infection can cause sepsis if not treated early I had sepsis from a uti infection thank goodness I got to the er when I did because I would have been dead

I've had sepsis 8 times, due to the same infection. 2 hospitals couldn't get rid of the infection and i ended up having a 5 organ transplant. I hope i never ever get it again, it's awful 😢
I am sitting in the hospital right now recovering from sepsis. I've been here for 2 weeks. I am very fortunate that it was caught in time and that I am still alive. The doctors still don't even know what caused it initially.
Thank you for the informative video. I lost my grandmother recently due to septic shock. She suffered a lot in the hospital for 2 weeks, she is at peace now..in no pain😢 . Things happened so fast we could not process how and when it became a septic shock.

I had MRSA induced sepsis and septic shock. Took 16 weeks to recover after emergency surgery. I barely survived.
Same. I had it in the military. Double pneumonia on top of it and sinusitis so bad I was seeing white due to pressure. The MRSA was pretty bad at one point. I think I died in my sleep because I had this feeling of two hands pushing down on me hard, and I awoke with faint heart beat.

@jibberism9910 I was about to enter rifle range before the white started. Days before, I described what felt like a film of some sort over my eyes. It was not a physical film, but the feeling could only be described as if I was looking through a very thin film like the top of water that mosquitoes land on. The white was worsened as this feeling increased and I couldn't describe it other than the pressure build up around sinus cavities felt so full and my eyes felt like they had a film over them and then white fog would occur. At one point, I couldn't see the officer talking to me and was being scolded hard by three Drill Sergeants until they all realized I was not joking that I could not see. The problem was, I touched a body that was sick before I got sick, and because of that, they covered up what happened to him and me being as sick as I was became a liability in 2015. I was part of a cycle at Ft. Benning, now Ft. Moore, that had a truck accident that made the news due to protocol not being followed. It was messed up, but if you look up 2015 Ft. Benning truck accident on Google that was my company. Two of us were extremely sick and covered up prior to that accident and partly was the reason why nothing was followed correctly and led to mistakes like the truck accident.

Severe sepsis from an intestinal blockage is the only thing that's scared me in 15 years of living with severe Crohn's disease. Experiencing it once was once too much and probably the closest I've come to having the lights go out.

@@sarahok6589 In the month leading to the emergency I'd have episodes where I'd regurgitate food eaten over 6 hours prior as if it never made it past my stomach. My doctor was not concerned. When I had a colonoscopy performed 2 weeks before the emergency the tech said they could not physically fit even the pediatric camera past my ileum because scar tissue narrowed the tract that much. The morning of the emergency I felt flu-like symptoms first: Chills, cold sweats, nausea, upset stomach. The emergency came when my whole body began trembling so violently I could barely move, I could not stand or walk without assistance, a constant urge to move my bowels with no production, violent dry heaving with a little bile production, fever teetering on the 104 mark. When you feel all of this you'll know it's time to get to a hospital that can save you if you let go. We didn't even waste time calling 911. My dad made the 35 minute drive to the hospital in 20. When we asked the attending if we made the right call he said, "Let's just say you needed to be here when you got here."

I had that same thing, it caused a perforated bowel and I went into septic shock. I would have died too if it wasn’t for my mom who took me to the hospital at 3 am in the morning. Praise Jesus that I’m still alive. Glad you’re okay too. I also have Crohn’s disease. I have infusions every 8 weeks .

I had sepsis due to my gallbladder leaking, I didn't know what it was, I was feverish, in agony, vomiting, dizzy to the point I felt like I had severe motion sickness. I went to the emergency room, they sent me home saying I'd pulled a muscle?!? 3 days later I was rushed into hospital, pretty much on my death bed...they quickly figured out what it was and pumped me full of antibiotics and fluids, and 3 weeks later I had my gallbladder removed. It was not a fun time.

I was in septic shock back in January from having major complex surgery in December. The surgery was a walk in the park on a sunny day compared to trying to recover from septic shock.
I just had a small bout with what appears to have been sepsis.... What set off the alarmbells at the hospital was my kidneys seemingly slowing to a stop. High bacterial load in the blood.
I was so horribly, horribly sick.
Returning to hospital this wednesday. Hopefully some good news. We still don't really know what happened. But I hope to have it never happen again.

I went to visit hot pools on two occasions.
Two days later I was felling unwell which was very unusual for me so I went to the doctor .
Only to confirm I had Septic - my urine smelled horrible that gave it away. Test later proved it.
Took tablets given to me straight away but illness took me to bed and I recovered in two weeks.
If I had not gone to that doctor i would not be here to tell this.
Sepsis, the reason for my 3rd near death experience, and the closest I came to not making it back. FYI it's not a fun way to die.

Two weeks postpartum after an emergency c-section, I developed uterine sepsis. I had a fever so high, I was hallucinating. The ICU was full, and they didn't think I was stable enough to be transported to another hospital with an open ICU bed. They kept switching IV antibiotics, hoping something would work. My IVs kept failing, it was almost every 48 hours they would have to find another vein. My incision site was not infected, it was definitely due to the nature of my surgery (infected from the inside, out). My liver went into distress and started to fail. It was an extended hospital stay and I had an RN sitting 1:1 with me during the worst of it. I asked her if I was dying, and she had a horrible poker face.
Positive note, I have ZERO fear of needles. Between being stuck for a viable vein and the endless blood culture draws, I lost all squeamishness.

One day, I felt like I was collapsing, fainting. I called 9-1-1 and an ambulance took me to Kuakini Medical Center. The doctor there said that I have sepsis. I was at that hospital for two weeks in January of 2023.

My dad died from sepsis , granted he was on chemo medicine so his immune system (He had multiple myeloma). He got a infection wound on the shin call sister she a nurse and call 911 ,and went downhill fast , they did a emergence dialysis .blood transfusion but it had ( some)little improvement he died 4 days later.

❤ my mum died from SEPSIS on 26 december 2023. I thought she was going to hospital to get antibiotics intravenously. I did not know what spepsis was. I dont even believe the nursing home picked up that mum was just not herself. They were in chrismass mood with light bulbs on the nurses head ready for christmas. I told them my mum looks dead. All they know to do is poke a long cotton like bud to check for covid bull shit. Mum got to the hospital too late. No doctor was available to see mum that night. She was hospitalized the next morning. Friday and monday at 6.30 am took her last breath in my face.
Thats how i heard about SEPSIS.

We thought it just a normal fever but after few days we went to different hospital but it's too late and then the doctors find out it was septic shock and also the doctors said your mother is in very very critical condition but the chances of survival is still 70%.. doctor's give their full potential to save my mom but my mom's body didn't respond to antibiotics because of severe septic shock it reduce my mom's blood pressure so it's very Hard for doctor's to save my mom.😭 RIP mom I miss you a lot 🥺🥺.. unexpected things happen in life so please anyone experience continuous fever please go to hospitals...
I just got out of the hospital with sepsis. It was caused by a boil on my leg. I had to be hospitalized for 5 days. I still have a long way to go but listen your body. I had no idea until the infection was pretty bad

Good review. On that SOFA criteria, why would they look at Dopamine and Dobutamine for hypotension treatments? These are generally the last pressors you want to use. Dobutamine isn't even really a pressor for shock.

I went into septic shock because of a perforated bowel. I had pain since quarantine, but I never had any markers. I was told my symptoms were most likely “ figurative”, implying it was the cause of something mental that was inflicting my body. I was in excruciating debilitating pain and sometimes I’d have to sit down on the floor or find some place to sit when I went out because of my “figurative “ pain . Then they diagnosed me with irritable bowel syndrome, aka “It’s a baloney sandwich”Well fast forward, to my Christmas break in 9th grade, i had a check up and CAT scan. Something looked wrong so my gastroenterologist asked me to stay at the hospital so they could perform a colonoscopy .Well my bowels were so inflamed , which prohibited them from getting far . Very long story , cut short , five days later I went to the hospital because I screamed bloody murder cause of my pain and they didn’t do any CAT scan or even x-ray, just gave me a suppository because I must’ve been constipated. I go home. I get ready for bed and I go to sleep and I don’t feel good but I was so used to hearing my pain wasn’t as bad as I was making it out to be, so I just brushed it under the rug and I didn’t say anything . Thank God my mother came and sat up with me because I was literally dying and had to have emergency surgery. my only advocate was my mother, who was not my doctor, but knew exactly what it was since the beginning. Crohn disease.
It was a painful recovery, I was in the hospital for two months, and I had to have an ileostomy and mucus fistula. But it led me to God, and made me a better person. My priorities shifted and I came out a new person because of the traumatic experience. I just had my second surgery in January and I’m doing well. This is very interesting video, especially as someone who went through this.

Thank you for asking.Yes, I love my doctors now, but I think they have their heads to far in the books sometimes, they just need acknowledge that their patients know when something’s wrong and they need to listen. Had sepsis from a UTI in 2018. Was on antibiotics but they didn’t work. Spent a nice week in the ICU. Covid had nothing on sepsis! Worst thing I’ve ever experience. They said if I hadn’t come into the ER I would have been dead in a few hours.
The exact same thing that happened to me they had gave me antibiotics and discharged me but I didn’t leave the hospital they called security to put me out the hospital because I was very sick I checked right back in and was told I would have died within 6 hrs some of these drs need to take sepsis seriously 🥲 I fear sepsis the most

Had patient with sepsis (possible cards too from my limited understanding) they were constantly sweating. I know this is mainly purely adults but some of the measurements kinda shock me. I've seen kids comfortably breathe 80 resp per minute (hand counted not monitor) so to hear "22 is tac" confuses me

Such good explanation!! but I do have a question: why do the immune system get dysregulated at that particular time? I mean we get infections like 3 times per year for like the entirety for our lives. Like does this dysregulation happen randomly or?

Correct me if i'm wrong but i thought Blood pressure= CO x SVR and the MAP is 1/3 pulse pressure + diastolic pressure.
The the current NICE Guidelines for sepsis don't seem to use the SOFA score? Is there a reason for that?
Good question, there's a comment in the CKS on Sepsis (Assessment portion) stating they found insufficient evidence that one scoring tool performed better than others and that they felt qSOFA needed clinical validation. Thanks for the comment 👍

i had blood sespis caused by diverticulitis and one of the bubble burst and poison was travelling thru the blood vein and cause my body to shutdown immediately and felt cold already, has to rush to hospital and that was two years ago. im ok now and still take it easy, best possible was to wear a stoma bag for a while but failed to heal up so a permanent fix was to have another surgery to take out 1/4 bowel of infectious section and now i have a big scar and is healing very slowly

it was terrified and i have been battling for more than 10 years and found out that bacteria was growing too fast and my white blood cells cant keep up with the fight, that is why i had to see the emerergency dept at the private hospital took 4 days to calm down

I have "been septic" twice in my life. I have been sick 100's of times in my life. Sepis is like night and day when it comes to symptoms. The whole body becomes ill even though the root cause; "Say Strep Throat," stays about the same. It is better treated at home with frequent Doctor calls. An oral antibiotic over many days will eventually knock it out...Unless you die from the infection... I am not trying to scare people, as I said: "I had it twice and I have lived till 62, years old." Just be sure and get it treated. The keys will be; difficulty breathing enough (Low pulse oximeter reading), and a temprature over 103°F. And you will feel horible!!!

Oof nono, if it's really bad it's best to get iv antibiotics, it acts faster and makes you feel better nearly immediately since it's extremely good antibiotics they give you. Those symptoms could be from just a normal infection as well

I've had it 4 or 5 times. First one was the worst with a nearly month long hospital stay 4 days spent in a coma. They flooded my body with bags of penicillin squeezing them into the IV versus letting them drip. My temp was at 106 when i got to triage and they rushed me back right away. My lips were already blue. I felt like i was on the verge of death. Even my dad said that when he came to visit and i was still in the coma, he said I looked like death. One case was when a pik line wasnt put in properly and it was pumping infection with the medicine. Had to stay a week. It was and it scary. If you are lucky enough to survive, you learn to prioritize what's important real quick. Glad you survived.
Once I had sepsis I was seriously just hours away from dying I was also severely anemic my red blood cell count was super low my heart valve was infected only reason I ended up calling the ambulance what is because my heart was hurting when I got to the emergency room I also had pneumonia and literally a few hours after I got to the emergency room I had a stroke and it's wild that I was seriously considering going back to sleep and hoping I'd feel better the next day but if I would have done that I probably would have died I remember watching them take my blood in the emergency room my blood was like a black sludge even crazier if I would have gone to sleep instead of calling the ambulance when I would have woken up everybody in my house would have been gone on vacation for a week and if I would have waited to call the ambulance I probably would have woken up the next morning and had that stroke all alone at the house and I was only about 29 at that time this was only a few years ago I had to spend like 3 months in a Recovery Center where there were a bunch of senior citizens but since you just said it's common in the elderly I guess that was the perfect place for me because they see that a lot I imagine where I was staying with just a recovery center but 99% of the people there were over 65 so they probably don't see people in their twenties there very often. This was right before 2019 so by the time I got out of the recovery center within just a week or two covid-19 hits of the entire world shut down but I had already been on quarantine like 6 months before the entire world was quarantined so I never got covid not even a single time still have yet to ever get covid. Then cuz I had been so sick I wasn't exactly very active I ended up having a pulmonary embolism. So I was literally on my deathbed.

@@lynnblydenburgh5978 not sure what that means but another interesting thing that's happened involving sepsis Thanksgiving of 2023 my sister-in-law dropped dead no one had any idea why until they tested her at the coroner's and she had died of septic shock! So I've had family members die of sepsis I've had sepsis myself as well so if anybody wants to know what it feels like in the earlier stages I'd be the right person to ask because family members have died of it and I almost did myself
Yeah but. I had SIRS ( temperature, heart rate, WBC count) from a major infection and got immediate antibiotics and fluid. Did I actually have sepsis? What's the cutoff?

I think I understand the confusion, the "and serum lactate >2mmol/L" is meant to mean both: 1) requiring vasopressors and as well as that, 2) having a lactate of above 2mmol/L, to define septic shock. Hope that makes sense!

I was wondering what sepsis was since i was diagnosed with it in the hospital several months ago. Apparently i had that and several other serious things going on in different parts of the body.
The doctors didnt really explain it too well. Especially since their English was limited and the only academic part of their language im good at speaking is upper level mathematics.
I was once going septic but they could find no bacteria or virus. Turned out that some strong food allergies had suddenly developed to everyday items

I called emergency on 20th December 2023 after my 85 year old ma had vomited twice and heart going fast and not being able to breathe when standing her up.
Dr at A+E said my mother's blood was clear and just suffering some dehydration .
He Discharged my mother,I took her home and less than 48 hours later my mother had exactly the same symptoms but this time her poor heart couldnt take it ,and she died sqeezing my hand.
About to start getting patient liason to investigate my mothers case.
Her GP said she was surprised A+E didnt take a urine sample seeing as she was on anti biotics for UTI.
Not thorough enough,should have kept her in for observation and urine test.
So sorry for your loss this is heartbreaking because I felt horrible and kept saying I felt like I was gonna die I couldn’t even urinate because of a uti thank God I got to the hospital when I did because I would have been dead in 6 hrs I fear sepsis the most

She had been fine for the previous twelve months,no calling the ambiance etc.
For the sake of a couple of extra tests and some time in hospital my sweet mother would still be here.
