There are a lot of beggars in India, particularly in Delhi. This encounter was particularly difficult. I refused to give money, but they did not react to this at all.
Eventually, I had to make a run for it to escape. As I did so, other beggars joined the chase and I had to make a break for it across the street to get away.
In most cases, I NEVER give money to beggars (there are exceptions). Sometimes I buy food, but mostly what I prefer to do is donate to organizations that specifically work with getting people off the street.

Fr tho, at first i used to give them some money cause i felt sympathy until my parents told me the harsh truth that we should never give money, as it all goes to the ones behind it, the children would get nothing but like a single bun or something as a reward. Now, i offer them some snacks, take it or leave.
