      Honestly no one should hate another person. In the Bible fornication and homosexuality are mentioned in the same verse but no one hates people that are sexually active outside of marriage. While yes obedience to God brings protection from many things, we weren’t ever given the authority to condemn, or judge. We’re taught to love everyone and preach the good news that God has in store. How people react to that good news and what decisions they make regarding what God requires is up to them, but it’s not for us to condemn them.

    • @katvtay
      @katvtay 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Karen Jones Yes you are right, but it is important to argue using the truth and not saturate it with doom and gloom, which is exactly what I see going on here. There is a middle of the road, and people far too often swing too far one way.
      Of course it is better to be HIV negative than HIV positive. Aside from the few disturbed, everybody on the planet knows that. It is such common knowledge, it goes without saying. Having to take medication isn’t as ideal as being healthy without medication. That is also a “no duh” statement. However, it is only with HIV that people start squawking about “the drugs.” By and large, we do not say that same crap to people needing meds for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc.
      Face it, people talk about the big bad drugs of HIV mostly because there is still a stigma attached to HIV. A stigma that just does not exist with diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, etc.
      Middle ground is important: no one should be blasé about HIV either. It is important for people to prevent getting it. The drugs are expensive and have risks too. They also can fail to work effectively for some people. Nonetheless, the stigma of HIV needs to stop. It just alienates people. It doesn’t help anybody. That’s why I post what I post.

      @@serenitynowyolo yes sadly it is still a death sentence to many long term survivors. I just buried my beloved uncle 2 years ago. He was diagnosed in 1994. He did everything he could to live but sadly we lost him. Yes people are living longer and healthier lives, however people are still dying from this every single day. For them and their loved ones this is very real and each life is one too many. I hate the message "It isn't a death sentence anymore " I get giving hope to people who have HIV, but they already know the stats. What people are really doing with that statement whether they know it or not is giving this new younger generation less fear of the disease. That's why we are seeing a rise in new infections for the first time in a long time.
      Yes the drugs these days do save lives, however they are very expensive and have a ton of side effects. You can also start to become resistant. After decades on them especially, that's what happened to my uncle. That's what happens to many long term survivors. So when you tell a 18 year old kid fear not, and they listen, you are taking away many healthy years from them....don't do that. It is a very dangerous message you are spreading whether you know it or not, well you know it now, it's whether you listen to all of us telling you or not.
      I say all of this with love and loss in my heart, not with any hate at all. We have been through too much for all of that. Too much hate from everyone else to throw it at each other.

    • @katvtay
      @katvtay 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Beth Meyers You are right about that. It did ease up in metropolitan areas though, yet the hysteria dragged on in less populated areas. By the mid-80s, some funeral homes in large cities accommodated people who died of AIDS while many places elsewhere had no such accommodation. AIDS wards and hospices started to open up in the large areas, while elsewhere, there was no where for sufferers to go.
      Organizations like GMHC, ACT UP, and the ACLU, worked to protect sufferers in NY and CA (and then other large areas with a large population of sufferers) that just were not available elsewhere. Living in s rural area made a huge difference regarding bigotry, isolation, and a lack of medical care. So I get what the OP is saying.
      You’re right too that it was still terrible everywhere in most ways. Landlords still tried to evict those with AIDS, many medical professionals still didn’t want to treat patients, even in NYC, San Fran, and LA. The average citizen, even in those areas still subscribed to hysteria which led to persecution. So it was horrible everywhere for a long time, but rural areas truly were the worst (and still are, truth be told).

      May I ask which suburb of Indianapolis? For several years now I have been doing work to better understand Ryan White and the early days of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. I'm actually in a dispute with some who claim Ryan's legacy was education. They present Ryan as if he taught the world to love and then there was no more fear or discrimination of people living with HIV/AIDS. Yet there were so many examples even after Ryan's famous funeral in Indianapolis where people with HIV/AIDS did continue to suffer quite badly. Including another "innocent" victim Paige Rawl who experience much of the same abuse growing up in Indianapolis. To say nothing of gay men who continue to be blamed for a disease where they continue to be the largest group impacted in the U.S.

    I had a neighbor who got HIV years ago when he lived in San Francisco. And when people who were suppose to be his friends found out, first of all, it took them a grand total of 30 minutes to spread it all throughout the complex. And he wasn't invited to eat with them anymore. They'd have dinners weekly where everyone would bring a dish-- his invitations stopped abruptly. And when the whole building got together for some holiday celebration, a bunch of them were warning everybody, "Mike cooked the (whatever it was) DON'T touch it".

      Valincia Pruitt God tells us to love one another as he loves us. I don’t see so much of that in this world even though people seem to talk about it. When people are nice to me I often times have to ask myself what they really want out of it and especially if it’s a man! It’s sad that I have to be that way but I had been diagnosed with lupus since I was 33 & RA by 37. Good garage I’ve heard enough ugly to last a lifetime and even though my dad helped tremendously he would get tired and grouchy. My mother criticized and criticized and didn’t understand the disease was, but boy she knew what pain was when she got sciatica and then inevitably cancer. That’s when she finally apologized to me seven years later! My kids treated me like crap up until I was feeling a little bit better after changing rheumatologist and I went to nursing school because I was cast out of the legal profession. I work as a nurse part time & i’ve been on Social Security since 2005. My kids think that I have nothing because I don’t have that much money and their dad is a PA and PhD. Blah blah blah. I say that in sarcasm because when we separated he had nothing to do with those kids until well after they were 18., we split up and my kids were 4 & 7. He did not even tell the kids he was getting remarried in 2000 but yet now they think he’s golden. They are gonna learn because their dad is just the way he is and it’s just him. My daughter is exactly like him! Actually my daughter is worse. She is so selfish and God has his way of dealing with people like that. My son has been about 20% helpful whenever he wants to be but his wife is not. She comes from a family that has spoiled her and she doesn’t know what it’s like to share. I stay to myself because if I have to be around my children it’s really aggravates me where it used to break my heart.
      The father that turned his back on them when they were little and didn’t even want to pay more than 300 a month child support when the judge ordered him to pay 800, and their dad was selfish and everything was about him and for me everything was about the kids & my family. I don’t like to be smothered but I do love my family and I respected my parents. my kids think I don’t have anything to give because I’m only working part time now as an RN but what I don’t really realize is that I’ve got a malpractice lawsuit because the doctors almost killed me and your and a half ago with sepsis and kidney failure. It won’t surprise me if they start coming around after that but it’s too late. My son will do the right thing for family if he absolutely has to but boy he’s not nice about it. What’s wrong with people? They worship money and things. They’ll find out because God has his ways.
      You are such a kind person and I keep praying that one day we will all come together as human beings and then I see families not get along and wonder if it will ever be that way & perhaps I’m too optimistic to realize the truth. There’s already so much hatred in the USA amongst political parties. That’s absolutely ridiculous because if we were attacked by a terrorist country or someone else tomorrow, We would be banded together like brother and sister just like after 9/11/01. This is just your classical case of American dysfunctional families. God bless us all and God help us all... God help those who suffer and God help those who really need the most.

Because of my disability I wasn’t able to continue working my law firm job as an associate, and let me tell you people judged me every which way they could and then some. My own mother and even the people with whom I worked. They didn’t fire me at work because I had done nothing to be fired but they made me so miserable that I resigned. My office had been downstairs and when I return back to work after being out for a week following an injury, & returning back to work for about four days until I blared up and the doctor took me out again for another week and a half, The senior partners gave my office to someone else! When I went back to work around 11 June, they put in my office upstairs. It was heartbreaking because I had a back injury with lupus and I had to walk upstairs and it was excruciatingly painful.
      . I can understand how these people felt. I worked with going up and down stairs, despite my occupational doctor telling me to stay off of stairs following my office injury when I slid on THEIR Hard wooden back stairway. It was awful because they knew if they fired me I could have a chance that Worker’s Compensation benefits.
      I didn’t even have anything that was communicable but they treated me like dirt and then I heard the flak from my mother and my oldest child. I was then and I’m so over it even 18 years later. I did switch doctors and I ended up returning to work in 2011. thank God!! At that time I was still very hurt and I didn’t wanna go back to the law firm because of the way I was treated and I certainly wouldn’t gone back there. I actually went to Orange school believe it or not and worked in nursing for a while and I hope to stay there as long as I can even if part time.
      My heart broke when I heard that Freddie Mercury had aids and passed away from it. Soo sad & so so many people had to suffer with that.

      Obironnkenobi people thought back then you could get it from going to school with people who had it or touching them. They thought you could get it from sharing drinks and food. Just sad ! They kicked hemophiliac children out of schools because they got AIDS From contaminated blood because they had to get blood transfusions all of the time and the people that donated the blood had the HIV virus- most of them were needle drug users. Sad! We knew by 1984 or 1985 that HRV was not passed by cancel contact whatsoever and that it was an STD. They started testing the blood supply in 1985 as well. HIV contaminated blood was removed from supply & testing was enacted before giving blood so they would not take blood from anyone who is HIV-positive. In 1983 they figured out what the disease was ; in 1984 they had a test. 1985 they knew it wasn’t by casual contact and they cleaned out the blood supply for transfusions and started testing donors for HIV. They had shows on 60 minutes every month telling people it wasn’t a casual contact disease but STD, needle drug users, etc.. & people could get it through heterosexual or homosexual contact. I’ve never heard of women giving it to women because they don’t do what men do when they are gay. The ironic thing is that during Ronald Reagan’s administration they cut funding for the CDC and the people working there didn’t have the money to travel to do research to find out what his disease was and where came from. With the money they had, they kept every staff member on so no one would lose their job and they all worked and worked to see if they could find out what it was; and they had no travel to go anywhere in the world to see if other people had this. After rock Hudson died in 1985 former actor and then President Ronald Regan donated so many millions of dollars to AIDS Research but it really was nothing compared to the amount they would spend on war and everything else.
      George Bush was in from 88 to 1992 and when Bill Clinton took office in 1992 the CDC was given back their money and they went to Africa. HIV originated in Africa! These people could’ve known that eight years before if they would’ve only had the money. The disease came from monkeys that the hunters would get their blood mixed with monkeys blood during hunting. It was really easy to do if the hunter in advertently even cut themselves slightly after hunting an infected monkey.. The Monkees had the virus but they didn’t develop into AIDS Like humans do. These hunters would go home and be with their wives and their wives would get HIV and they would have babies born with HIV. Before 1985, The world health organization would give massive vaccinations to millions of children in Africa to help prevent them from getting tetanus diphtheria pertussis, etc.. goodness gracious all that did was cause that disease to spread like wild fire because these nurses were using the same needles in this Third World country!! All of these poor little children probably age 2 or three up to 15 or 16 we’re getting HIV. Subsequently, many of the hunters would leave their homes and go to work in mines 100 or so miles from home so they could make more money. While they were off working in the mines and away from their family, these men were having sex with prostitutes and giving their HIV to prostitutes or getting it from prostitutes if they didn’t already have it from hunting. Then those men took it back to their wives and children. It’s really really sad but the disease originated in Africa. It went from Africa to Haiti, & then USA. These poor people were treated horribly and my heart goes out to them.

    what makes me angry is that covid 19 got a vaccine in the same year it came out as pandemic while HIV and Aids have still not have any cure or vaccine. We spent millions on research but more information how this virus history and provided prolong medicine to keep one alive of course its a good thing but so many have suffered and died from the disease. i really hope there will be an something to change in current events and make something like a vaccine to cure Aids or Hiv.

      @@teijaflink2226 the issue (or one of the issues) is that hiv mutates incredibly quickly. It’s part of the reason that the only thing that works as therapy is the triple cocktail - if only one drug at a time is used, the virus quickly mutates and the drug becomes ineffective. It’s incredibly difficult to create an effective vaccine for something so prone to copying errors that create mutation.

    I treated many AIDS patients in the 90s since I was a dental hygienist. It’s a bloody environment at times is why the dentist were so fearful but I knew with science that if I took the correct precautions even though I was working with sharp instruments it was practically zero cases a patient to hygienist infection. I had compassion I knew that AIDS was a terrible disease and new of friends that have passed away because of it.
    Just because the person says they are negative they can still have HIV, so we treated all the patients the same. We treated them all as if they had HIV. No discrimination. The dentist in this documentary is an idiot because you don’t know if the other people you are practicing on has HIV you just assume they don’t but in reality they could. He is talking from an uninformed decisions and bias.
    Even present day the only way to prevent 100% HIV is abstinence. They don’t teach that in schools anymore. Now they’re teaching how to have homosexual or sexual sex

      I was a dental assistant in the late 80's and throughout the 90's and we treated every patient as if they had AIDS also. The autoclave took care of the instruments. Some dentists told me not to pit the drills in the autoclave, so I disinfected them thoroughly, imagine these dentists were practicing in NYC, one of the epicenters.

They should have educated the people, not let it be ignored because it was seen as a gay thing, and sooner tested the blood/prevented drug users from donating before distributing it to hospitals where thousands and thousands of innocent people were put at risk/infected. All these leaders were too ashamed to admit it was a problem in their country and just let it spread like wild fire I cannot believe how this is still a major problem today and they just simply brushed it under the rug...
