I saw Mr. Brown once live! He was not yet a star and was performing on the "chittlin' circuit". We were in Robins IL right outside of Chicago. There was an outside stage at the fire station and up and coming acts would perform for free. We thought he was fabulous and had the making of a star. I think we were right! Takes me back!

    This footage is very symbolic.
The great Sammy Davis trying to adapt to the new modern music , welcoming and embracing James Brown who would be the next important black entertainer.
You can tell Sammy Davis knew how special James Brown was, two extremely confident performers but from different generations and musical styles ,at different stages in their career showing complete respect and admiration for each other.

They were from the exact same. generation. Sammy was born in 1925, James in 1928. (Not in1933 as is purported.) James lied to the police in Augusta, Georgia when he was a young.man. He gave them an age five years younger than his actual age in order to avoid going to adult prison. He went to a juvenile detention center in Toccoa, Georgia instead. That is where he met Bobby Byrd, who became his back-up singer later. His purported age stuck with him the rest of his life. Anyway, there will be someone who will try to correct me on this matter. Watch the responses to this post.

It doesn’t end there with his many talents, he was also a comedian. That’s makes his a I would have love to basked in his presence watching his live performances. I heard he was also a fast draw with a handgun. What a man, that Sammy. Wished I had met him . I admire great talents and Sammy is tough to beat. 😍😘

That nice afro cut here really highlights his strong masculine face. He also looked very handsome with a mustache. Don't be too tough on James, Sheila. Radio and TV rarely play James Brown more militant songs. They only play his dance music. If, you have his music you know what I am talking about. James Brown was not highly educated but he was smart and a great performer and knew his music. A master showman and so was Sammy Davis Jr. Their education was performing and making money. Both started out very young.
