    Good job on the review of this. I just picked one up myself and I have noticed that the 1080i setting looks and plays much better than the 4K setting. - James D. Watkins, artistic director of PHOENIX PRODUCTIONS.

    Thank you! They no longer make this particular model, but I ordered something extremely similar - your overview was very helpful - now I have a better Idea as to what to look for. As you recommend here, I got it as a backup for my smartphone camera (plus to check out the whole thing before I invest a lot of money in something else). Nice presentation!

    I've been using these HDV5X4KM-series cameras (HDV524KM & HDV534KM) for a few years, and just picked up an HDV544KM specifically for the remote-control feature. As a musician, I use a Bluetooth receiver instead of the microphone, paired with a transmitter at the mixing console. It's a great way to record karaoke performances. I've also just added a Zifon YT-2000 motorized pan / tilt with face-tracking technology to the setup.

      It's good enough for kids or first time users that can but don't need to make a lot of changes. Better as a 1080p cam than 4k realisticly and could be improved in stabilization and audio slightly perhaps but for day use or well lit shooting for starting I think most people would find it accessible considering the price.

    Great review.. I have this exact camera, was given to me as a Christmas gift. You touched on several great points, but just a couple things to add that are and may help folks in deciding if it is for them. The part you speak of @8:51, the tripod mount, it will not mount to a tripod with the handle attached, there are no threads inside the "nut". I tried and tried to mount this on a tripod with the handle attached and finally looked to find NO threads in the bottom. It will however mount to a tripod if you remove the handle. Secondly, @ 16:11, when you use the zoom, that "BEEP" transfers into the recording I found, that's annoying and can really screw up the recording, not to mention possibly someone else's recording if they are near by lol. Thirdly, @ 3:25, you mention the "hot shoe", it is anything but "hot". Unfortunately it is a "cold shoe", there is not power to it, leading to the reason the microphone has its own power source. This is limiting as you can imagine if you wanted to upgrade to a different mic that was not self powered, or utilize a external light source that would fit into the " hot shoe". Fourthly, (is that a word?), While it uses a Micro SD card, it requires the adapter to hold it, kind of odd, but okay. Fifthly? The battery and the SD card cannot be removed easily with the handle attached, you either have to remove it completely or loosen the nut on the bottom of the handle and twist the camera so you can access it. And finally, you touched briefly on it, that stupid mic cord placement!!, what were they thinking when they put it in the way of closing the screen!!?? If your not careful and close the screen quickly, you can damage the screen, take out a few pixels. I realize this is basically just a large, portable webcam with a few features, but some of the limitations can really be a pain. But, like you stated, it is a "decent" camera for the money, the lens is just a little tight even zoomed all the way out, it is still "in your face" even at arms length, but I guess for Vlogs, it will do. Again, very informative video, detailed and to the point. #130 Like

    I have used a lot of different cameras in my life....I have never in my life seen a battery that has a usb port built into it to charge the battery. It is normal or common that the battery is charged in the camera. Mini usb is also still most common on cameras. A usb cable is usually used for accessing the storage on the camera. Modern cameras still use this because it is a standard. My new sony cameras that cost $6000 and it uses mini usb and the batteries are charged within the camera. I didnt know there were batteries that have a usb port built into it. Good review!

    • @Tw3akst3r
      @Tw3akst3r  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed it is very common but I would love to see that change so we can have a single cable charge most any device but that won't likely happen for a long time yet. I think it smart to have batteries that can charge outside the camera so there is always one or more ready to go, it's just a more versatile option. I would have no idea what to do with a $6K camera but I'd still like to have a much nicer camera for sure. I'm so basic with use though so I'd never need one, just affordable and automatic in most functionality would suit me fine.

    • @wolfrobots118
      @wolfrobots118 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Tw3akst3r A battery for a camera that has a built in usb charging port would be an excellent invention if it does not exist yet. I own a small TV station in Pittsburgh that's why I have expensive cameras. But I am always interested in cameras that are in expensive because I enjoy seeing the trickle down effect from pro to consumer. However I do notice that "new fangled" features show up in consumer grade cameras before the pro ones. I think this is because the pro cameras need to have a mature well developed format. Where as consumer grade can get more "fun" with features. Those $6000 cameras I got a few weeks ago at its highest does 1080P at 60fps. That high price is for the CMOS chip and the optical zoom. Digital zoom on any camera makes me feel sad inside...lol. The camera you reviewed seems right for the price. The biggest draw back with that camera is it stabilization.....omg on all the reviews I saw for it the footage was clear yet painful to watch because it was so very shaky. If used with a tripod it looks like it would be a cool camera.

    • @Tw3akst3r
      @Tw3akst3r  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wolfrobots118 it has no stabilization or low light ability that's for sure but as you said "for the price". A tripod would definitely be a good addition but many plan to use in hand so I decided to stick with that for what I thought would be more typical. Sorry I'm just replying, never got notified of the additional reply and though I often check I don't always see every reply sadly.

      No bother at all. Anytime I use a camera in a review I leave everything on the default or auto setting as many people will never change any setting and just want to open and use the camera. At least for a cheaper priced lower end type offering such as this. That lets people know what to expect out of the box (hopefully). I prefer my Sony and have this just in case I damage the Sony or it stopped working and I was wanting to make a video while I wait for a new camera to arrive.

You should be able to plug in pretty much anything you want as far as I know I've never tried any other microphones and such but as far as low light it's just not all that ideal overall indoors or Outdoors so using it with a light source is going to be the ideal situation to get the best quality.

    I bought a newer model & cannot find the volume button to save my life. I have a shoot tomorrow & this will be my 1st one with this camera. I'm wondering if I can deal with the volume in editing?? My camera has fixed all the glitches you showcased.

    • @Tw3akst3r
      @Tw3akst3r  ปีที่แล้ว

      I def don't know about the newer model but as long as the sound is clear and at least audible I don't see why you can't boost it in editing. If it is a whisper you may run into issues but otherwise you'd likely be okay. I'd shoot a couple clips tonight and drop them in your editor to test things before the shoot if it were me to make sure what options I have.

      It sounds like the batteries are not taking a charge or are dead which seems odd but is certainly possible. I use a power bank for my main (Sony) handycam so I never use batteries. It might not be how you want to use it but it is an idea on how to use it without needing batteries or until you can order at least one to find out if that is the problem. (A dead battery/batteries, not one that won't take a charge).

The plug in Mike sounds better and better on high and the filming looks good enough. All I want mine for is to record me in bed a sleep because my neighbours are waking me so I need night vision but it doesn’t matter if it’s not great I will fit a white led above my head just to light me up some what. This camera I bought it because it was £149 then I was sent a offer of £119 so I bought it what I do is watch a item and all most buy it then back out and I bet I receive a offer and yer I did. All so it says it can record wile charging so are see when I receive it and try it. Iv made battery eliminators for a few of my cameras and scanner receivers plus my communication receivers. I'd not suggest it as a main camera for anything too important as I tried to convey in the video. As a spare or kids camera it'd be alright. Many years ago I got a Sony Handycam I'm using still for 1080p, it was bundled with some extras and was about $450 or $500 dollars or so. You could attach a light if you remove the mic if you wish but it does not include one. I mention the light at right about 10:09 and speak on the red light that you can see indicating it is activated for dark environments. I guess looking back I could have included a demo but I guess I forgot and I really dislike the look of night vision video personally sp it did not occur to me at the time.

      This camera claims 4K but it is much better used for 1080P video or maybe higher then scaled down. You should be able to adjust in the settings what you want to shoot at. I do not know what you mean about having only + & -. Sounds like you need to enter the menu and choose higher than 720P. For the + & - minus are you talking about the zoom?

    • @Tw3akst3r
      @Tw3akst3r  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Short answer: No. (I don't really think so).
      Long answer...
      I would not suggest it for that, no. As stated I think it is a good camera for kids or those looking to just have a spare camera and occasional use. For the main camera or something that is anything more than just a hobby, I wouldn't want to use it. It'll cost more but there are better options, even many phones would likely be better. I still use a less than popular choice, a Sony CX405 Handycam 1080p Camcorder. All my videos are shot with it and it has been working well since 2015.
      I am NOT suggesting this camera but using it as an example. For not a lot more than the camera in my video, you can get a name brand that'll probably serve you better. www.amazon.com/dp/B01A60SXSO/
      The above is the style I use but you might want something that isn't a Handycam-style camera. You'll likely want something more modern looking such as one of these...again just examples. I don't know enough about these cameras but they are a great example. Also, they are suggested for TH-cam and Vlogging on some sites. www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZXRB449 & www.amazon.com/dp/B009B0MZ1M

    • @Tw3akst3r
      @Tw3akst3r  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching. It is as I hope I showed in this video an "okay" camera. Podcasting and maybe reactions can probably get away with a lesser quality than other video types. It's better at being a 1080P camera than 4K by far. Audio seems good enough for either and you could add your own mic to improve that so I'd say probably unless you really want very good quality video, then you'd want to look elsewhere. Powered via wall or power bank will be ideal rather than using the battery since you won't be moving around for these type videos. Also good you are stationary since any zooming results in very shaky video.

      Can't say I am all that qualified but if I was shopping for a camera I'd probably look at Canon or Sony or if I was looking for a cheap option and wanted to have the usage of a small tablet experience I might consider a cheap smartphone with a good camera since they tend to be so small and portable, have tons of accessories and mounts and as mentioned can work like a small tablet. Using wifi and no cell service they can be quite useful. There are even options for editing and streaming live right from the device so it's a good option to consider. You might even have an old phone or could use your current phone and save $. If you monetizr and succeed then you can spend money earned for a camera later and not pull from your pocket (account, whatever).

Maybe consider the Panasonic G85 for under $1,000, it seems to do well in low light which is often the case with concerts.

    • @Tw3akst3r
      @Tw3akst3r  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the external mic is plugged in it cuts the internal audio if I recall, with that off I think you're pretty much out of luck. If you play back the file and there is no audio, you can check the file properties. Right-click the video and select Properties, then the details tab and you can see info on the video and audio. If it is blank under audio, nothing is there. If there is something there may be some way to extract the audio but I'm not 100% sure how best to get the audio. There are video editing programs you could drop the file into and possibly see audio tracks as well. This also lets you separate or remove audio, assuming it is even detected.

      $200 4K or $100 1080P, both excellent webcams that work great for streaming as well.
