Chon has the least chill, and the most chill, of any band I can think of.
Floyd has the most chill, animals as leaders have the least. they've got a lot of AAL in their blood.
I hear ya.
Like a hard chill. XD
Ethan Finchum tosin once said his writing is heavily influenced by chon
Right
6:17 Nathan dropped his headphones so thah means he had no monitor until the end of the song, so he pulled that outro like a champ and finished in tempo, mad skills Nathan, mad skils.
The amps are still on. He would still be able to hear all the playing anyways. The headphones are mostly for clicks
@@RogerPham CHON doesn’t use clicks live. They literally just play it out. These are solely for monitoring.
@@RichardGarcia93 I understand for the other instruments but drummers almost always use clicks, just to keep the band going you know. In Thailand I was certain Nathan used clicktrack on his phone behind the drum seat
the solo in dew is the best solo ive ever heard
Like it came from a new dimension
It's a beauty. Everything about it is great
Agreed!
They haven't done a solo that good since then honestly but that doesn't mean their solos are bad. They have awesome solos, but Dew had a certain soul to it that other guitar solos just doesn't have.
@@daoyang223 I love it, but I still think the best one is from Perfect Pillow
Love this band, also I love that they don't need like $5000 worth of equipment per musician to sound good live. Simplicity, bc they are actually talented on their instruments. No need to hide behind a bunch of crap. So many bands make it now bc they play petrucci guitars and have axe fx... there needs to be more bands like this so that musicians aren't gear snobs judging talent on cost of equipment
Umm...they've got some pretty expensive gear here.
You make a good point, but their equipment is still top of the line, hence, not cheap
i think u all get the point. cheap was never what i claimed their gear to be
***** for the longest time erick was using an rg321 and rg421, both around $300. mario used a rg421 (he still might).
Corey Florucci preach son! preach!!
What I love most about this group is their set-up. Two 6 string guitars/one 4 string bass all run through traditional amps with a pretty standard 4 piece drum kit. There's still so much left to be done with the instrumental set-ups of yesteryear :D
They’re tuned in E standard, too!
What I love most about this group is their music.
日本人ですが、この音楽はとても素晴らしいと思います!
Music is for everyone everywhere. Don't be ashamed in liking foreign music
Glad you like it! This is my favorite band!
Duungah!
CHON wins. Whatever these guys are doing, they're doing it right. Other instrumental bands like AAL or STS leave me wanting more. Not that they aren't all superb musicians, but these guys are so satisfying to listen to.
Couldn't agree more!
+Josh Shipps Maybe try listening to more AAL? I agreed with you when I first got into prog, but the more I listen the better AAL gets. Meanwhile CHON is just amazing from the get go, so they're always great.
What I like about STS though is that they actually print there music and you can buy it directly from them. You can both learn the music yourself (both music and tab) and support the band. But anyway, really looking at the music and being able to really see what they're playing is amazing. And from a bass players perspective this band leaves me wanting more. But that's just their style, and I still love it. But I'm definitely not lacking anything from either STS or AAL, maybe you're missing something :)
Maybe it's just a style preference :)
hey what does aal and sts stand for im looking for new music and I love these guys so anyone compared to them im in!
+David Roe Animals As Leaders and Scale The Summit ;) enjoy
8 years later and 1:12-1:24 still absolutely blows my mind, it's so fucking good
It's especially awesome because the album version of Breathe is a little different
These guys are literally why I became a guitarist, just incredible musicians
This is the best music I have heard in my life it literally makes my brain release endorphins, I just found this and I am so glad I did. Best chords groove bass and the drummer... you guys are play on higher level
I loved that this band does not apply the concepts of "lead guitars" and "backing guitars". The two of them shared the same amount of power throughout the song, whilst still maintaining each other's uniqueness. This is some good video to show to kids that want to start playing guitars and/or starting a band.
The call and response near the end of "Breathe" is a great representation of that
+Ahmad Ilyas .. kids that want to start playing guitars to learn CHON? wow! that must be like i need to learn to drive like hamilton to get a driving license.. LOL.... CHON stuff is difficult even to seasoned guitarist..
+Nasi Lemak I disagree, using the "that jazz" or lydian scale can be simple to preform as long as you keep things paced and remember your chords imo. Plus, if you have a will then there's always a way!
+Nasi Lemak But what he's trying to say is what if there were people who were trying to start a band that had a union like Chon? There would be less disagreements and more music (despite the bassist who left). You dont have to play progressive mathcore or Satriani to actually say, "Hey, I play the guitar".
+purplekisses ^ this guys gets the point.
I'm so happy they have a bass player who understands goove. I've watched all these and man he's feeling it!
Exactly! and all of the people who complain about his "lack of technicality" should peep 2:29-2:39
951258tike22 LESS MEANS MORE. I think thats something bassist tend to not understand..
Zachary Relles I think those are guitarists who couldn't find a real bass player
Yeah I realize they've parted ways with Drew since this comment, plus I've still never seen them live, but judging by the audiotree video I stand by my statement. Drew worked well with CHON
@@951258tike22 this comment is 6 years old now so context is different. But Crawford was definitely an upgrade for Chon. Drew is awesome and has great energy on stage but he wasn't writing his own parts and now they have Anthony Crawford, who I consider a genius. You've definitely heard the self titled by now and you know the bass is just nuts on there.
I like this versio of breathe way more than the recorded version
My two favourite Chon tracks merged into one. Thank you Based God.
めちゃくちゃかっこいいインストバンド見つけてしまった…🥹!!
Oh fuck, Mario's solo from 5:17 - 5:32 has so much soul I could listen to this on repeat all day
i just wannna smoke with these guys while they jam for like ever
Appreciate the lack of double bass. Nice too see a drummer who doesn't rely on it
It's sometimes done really well with an actual double bass setup not just double pedal
The drummer is a monster....
I honestly like these live versions better than the studio ones. The drums sound nicer and less like they're programmed (which can sound cool, but I don't think it does in this case).
YASSSSSSS every song sounds so much fucking better than the studio ones
Lital Cherny do not forget they were having shit audio quality, the Last album "grow" sounds way better
Idk mountains of creation has some bangin drums, and they dont play the double bass in newborn sun. Its sad
I've always loved that part 5:14
DUDE! yes its just hits different then ther rest of the song
2:46 guys, 2:46
i will forever love you for this comment.
does anybody know what it is that they're playing there?
Conor Hines it’s the last half of Breathe
I agree
These guys are good. Change-the-world good. Just hope they stay at it.
These guys are absolutely brilliant!!!
Life changing music right here
Absolutely love these guys! So talented and groovy.
What a big inspiration they are
AudioTree Thanks for the Upload. Chon is really some next level shit.
Ive watched this performance a million times
super skillful band, love it so much..
Wow. Just heard the new album last night. These guys are killin it. Keep it up CHON!
these guys are the best thing to listen to while driving. i dont have a car but i can feel it
man yall are so gooood. tone amazing. drums freking crazy. bass smooth and badass. you 2 guitarists are like connected by the brain and still jammin to the breakdowns like it was some metal cant wait to show some of my friends you guys. thanks!!
I'm really impressed aboud theese guys, all the songs they performed here are really cool..
I love how the bass is just grooving in the back.
they are so great, they will go very far as they are so complete and creative with this early age. Hope they will stay together very long in this formation! Good luck to them!
Larga vida a CHON y la canción de "DEW" es lo mejor, lo mejor. Mucho sentimiento y eso se proyecta totalmente. Felicitaciones 🥂
Brilliance!
This band is the SAUCE I've been hungry for!
Great day they're tall, heads above the rest. I dont have anything to actually compare or relate them to!
what a fucking great mix
the drummer is fantastical fir furring sure... Cheers
Wow amazing band. Very powerful and creative. I love those riffs. 4:12 it reminds me some of the good old days of megadeth in rust in peace, the drummer Nick Menza does a similar job in some of the songs, and the guitar duo at 6:10 also reminds me some of Dave Mustaine and Martin Friedman arrangements in some of Rust in peace album songs, not copy of course but just similar techniques. Anyway, huge respects from Mexico. I love the feeling of the songs, and various main themes in each one. 5:25 a tear came to my eye.
auuuuuuuuu!!!!! awesome...
Okay. So im a huge fan of protest the hero, animals as leaders, scale the summit, polyphia, intervals... But i feel like CHON is just way ahead of the game when it comes the progressive style. Its probably because i like the more beautiful sound and style, but the guitar techniques and transitions is truly unbelievable. Thats just my opinion.
6:15 goodbye nathan's headphones
he dropped them when he headbang :D
goodbye nathan's ears haha
But still he managed to play it still!
Virtuosos!
Cool!
🔥
keep up!
Bruh these lyrics are so tight
Chon is basically hardcore jazz but they play all the right notes
oh shit this is so good
1:50 yes, BREATHE, Mario, BREATHE.
thanks for the best acid trip of our lives
Can someone post the lyrics?
***** Best lyrics ever bro. They gimme da feelz ;)
Masheww73 I think the lyrics are useless when the music speaks for itself.
Masheww73 haha i was wondering why they even setup mics. Either way still amazing.
***** the mics are just so they can chat in between songs
a break a pause Engineers mind at work... Cheers
Congrats audiotree, that's an amazing mix!! And Chon is absolutely astonishing, as always... Is "Breathe" an exclusive song for audiotree live? can't find it on any records! Thank you ;)
I sure hope your parents are proud of these masterpieces you've all created #chon #guitars4sale #chonwins #murder
2:47 and on is just pure beauty
I really admire Mario and Eric's guitar-into-amp approach of technique over effects. For some strange reason I really want to see them play on like a Les Paul and Tele.
They had mics in each spot for the mix they got they where recording it lol thats how they got that crisp tone
that ride cybol though holly nadstink capitaaan!
FUCK YEAH
This goes out to people who compare CHON to Polyphia:Each of them have their own uniqueness & style of playing,& portray a different 'feel'.
4:36 So gooooood!!!!!
God, it really sucks that now that I have the means to attend concerts regularly the bands I love are gone, like chon, bay faction, the buttertones, and part time.
3:23 - Dew start
thanks
these dudes always knock my fucking ears off.
ran across this group on audiotree live while watching tricot perform and i was hooked. There like the dave matthews band without the lyrics lol, just smooth and rude in a respectful way lol.
Ahhhh didn't see the drummers headphones fall off!
nice endurance
Learns how to dance in 7/8 just so they can go to a chon concert
Do they always play with matching guitars?
that's so cool
WOW. This live audio sounds so fucking great! Any one what kind of mics or drums Nathan is using in this vid? I know he's using meinl cymbals... but man the drums just sound so fucking great imo
+Adrian Lindorfer This video can answer how we mic drums for our sessions. th-cam.com/video/XGZP7u2Uj2Y/w-d-xo.html
Im sure someone in this thread can help with the specific drums and cymbals Nathan uses
yess!! thank you
+Adrian Lindorfer meinlcymbals.com/news/Article/show/nathan-camarena-of-chon-joins-the-meinl-cymbal-family-1104
TAMA starclassic. SLP snare. Meinl extra drys.
These guys have inspired me a lot in my own melody writing even though I can only dream of being able to play like them! I'm a solo musician hoping to gain some visibility even though the progressive soundscape is only really enjoyed by a minority of musically refined individuals. I would really appreciate it if you could check out some of the music on my channel and leave a comment! Thank you fellow prog rockers!
They should've released this song :)
that grooooove tho
that solo covers my soul in a cream
btw. did they play it a wee bit faster then on the album? think they did!
Tom Stavek feels like it
This entire audiotree session makes me wet. It's all flawless, all of it.
6:15 His headphones fall off and he still kills it
im not gonna pretend but play this video over this video
Ibanez guitars, simple yet effective. Always.
Holy fuck the boys were buzzing in this one
....o..damn.
My favorite part is when Nathan's headphones come off at 6:18 haha classic
headphones fall off nathans face at the end lololol
Some slap bass would send this into another dimension. I love me some slap.
that bass at 1:51 grooooooooooooves
it kinda reminds me a tera melos. very nice
gg wp
does anyone know the model of mario's custom guitar? (the purlple one)
Opa bato tukatukatukatukatu...
Most of you couldn't even keep up with their bassist. Lol.
Is it just me or do they play Dew faster in this video? Nathan was just going in on that shit and I feel like Mario and Erick just followed and also killed it. Wow these guys are good. I cant wait to see them again live!
Are those Ibanez grx20z?
i would go blind if i go near dat strings!
Is it weird that I still use TH-cam for music?
Does anyone know if this drummer uses a double kick? I don't think he does, just curious.
GOD DAMN HEADPHONES 6:17
Ayye 420k views
Where i can buy breathe?
2:46 !!!!!!!!
some one explain why the drummer and the guitarist look the same?
Guitarist is the older brother.
Because they are the same.
coz they're the super chon bros!
son and dad
they invented cloning
These guys are nasty live. Good smoking music
One of the guitarists looks like Kevin Corrigan from Pineapple Express
*gasp*
