That's one of my favorite things about drumming. I know you were talking about the guitar tones, but you basically can not hide drumming mistakes no matter what.
Cheesy Cola It's actually easier when you play along to this video due to the slower tempo. Though I still have trouble with it, especially that big scale run.
I'm a bass player. Although of course the guitars are the stars of this band, I can't help but notice how simple, but effective and supportive the bass is. I felt if I was playing in this band I would have the inclination to want to have my playing as technical and complex as the guitars, and probably would end up over playing and kind of stepping on their feet musically. Anyone else think this? Am I over-thinking this? Because that's definitely a possibility. Anyway, great band! Definitely one of my current favorites
yeah i agree im not a bassistbbut i can see what you mean. ive noticed that too lol. i think if the bass was as technical theyd just have to be careful withnot hitting wrong notes and keeping the beat and groove on hahah.i think a bass improv with the guitars would be prettty tight too though
That's how I've always looked at it. I think the bass lines do a great job of holding down the melodies and motifs that the the guitar parts work with. Too much technicality would ruin it I think
This band is so refreshing compared to the sea of mediocre metal bands today. I love how their guitars are just on the edge of breakup instead of the typical over saturated tone usually used.
+The Authority Actually, if you had any reasonable knowledge of what metal music is and the history of metal music, you would know it essentially stemmed from jazz musicians picking up rock and roll. So, this is honestly as metal as it gets. Do us all a favor and shut your mouth about things you don't understand.
+Brandon Higgins I've been listening to metal for 17 years now, and I've never heard of the notion that metal "essentially stemmed from jazz musicians picking up rock and roll"
*****, cool man, for sure, and in a lot of ways you would be right. Let's take original metal and what was mainly thought of as heavy metal through the late 20th century. Starting in the 60's and 70's, we had bands like Led Zeppelin all the way to Black Sabbath being considered heavy metal. This of course, in our mind, is the beginnings of hard rock and psychedelic rock, brought from the changes made to blues music in particular. Ok, so then things changed for almost all of these genres. I'm going to call it the progressive music movement. Jazz musicians starting writing blues, rock musicians starting doing prog rock and metal musicians started doing prog metal. Of course, everything here starts getting really weird, because most of your musicians are crossing lines, working together, working on each others albums and changing as the years continued. In a lot of ways, we can say that prog metal stemmed from taking classical and jazz themes and integrating them into the musical instruments and musicianship of the late 20th century. Of course, I'm not saying that Rich or Coltrane ever wrote metal music. I'm more saying that musicians interested in progressive styles starting playing their guitar through marshalls and mesas with drummers that understood more than 4/4.
Yeah, and in an interview from like maybe a year ago or so, Mario said that most of the times they just play on slightly eq'd stock guitars with no petals or anything, so clearly they like to keep it clean xD
I love how weird and honest it is. It's really just some bros jamming, being chill, enjoying the company of each others tones.. I don't know, maybe I'm just weird myself, but I enjoy the sh* t out of it.
I seriously would love to hear what beautiful music these guys could write on some classical guitars. I also just love how they are all happy to be playing. We need more musicians like these now. I hope I can someday live up to these guys in playing though. But I guess that's just a shit ton of practice. CHON is just full of emotion/passion and technical skill I don't know how else to describe it. I love it.
Listen to "woohoo" album they got couple of classical guitar riffs :) Totaly agree with you chon is my favorite band they really inspired me a lot, way more than plini, sithu aye, scale the summit, animals as leaders,... CHON PRESIDENT
+CSXer Don't even apologize for your age! My dad raised me on 70's fusion jazz and prog, and I definitely agree that CHON reminds me much more of those bands, they're just the next generation of young dudes shredding crazy music.
+CSXer i said the exact same thing , not so much melodically but yes and early King crimson were so full of talent all competing for space . its one of the reasons yes had so many line up changes over the years. each member in his own right was good enough to be the anchor of a great band and that much talent usually devours itself
This. This is why I'm so passionate about music and musicality. The lads of CHON who push the boundaries of genre and simply create art. There is probably no better feeling than creating and performing with your best friends and having fun while doing it. Props to Audiotree for the brilliant set and sound!
+Tom Post Man, if you think CHON sounds like those bands (who I do love), you clearly have never listened to good fusion jazz. Listen to Return to Forever, Weather Report, and Mahavishnu Orchestra to start with
I wish they sounded like this in studio recordings. This performance is so good. It’s like a little sped up. And you can feel the shit out of the drums. For some reason In recordings their drums sound more subdued.
+xseq xqwe dude I know what you mean. Their first demo is one of my favorite pieces of art I've listened too. I thought polyphia sounded good on champagne but after I listened it just didn't resonate like chon does
I just cannot believe how this serious artist like "CHON" are so unknown in the world music and int he other hand I just see dudes like Justin Bieber, Miley Cirus and Britney getting Millions and Millions for practicly NOTHING, that is just unbelievable and unfair, hope You the best Guys today and always, Your music is just amazing. Congrats.

nerdy in all the best ways. rippers... Audiotreetv continues to drop delicious flavor bombs all over my face. Appreciate the perpetual quality music and talent. xo
How they play that clean is beyond me. There is no hiding mistakes with those tones
I know, so damn fluid...
Being way too good to make us all feel bad for trying.
That's one of my favorite things about drumming. I know you were talking about the guitar tones, but you basically can not hide drumming mistakes no matter what.
Spencer Jessee Yes, you can. Sample replacement, etc.
Anti-Cosmic Dawn He means in a live video/setting like this. Anyone can sound immaculate on recordings if done right.
I miss the boys sm 😢😢
songs like suda make life worth living.
sorry to hear that
his guitar needs a haircut
Mountains of Creation has to be the hardest Chon song. This is crazy!
The guitar isn't even that hard it's one of the few songs I can play by them all the way through.
Cheesy Cola It's actually easier when you play along to this video due to the slower tempo. Though I still have trouble with it, especially that big scale run.
Cheesy Cola That might be true. At least for me. The maj7 arpeggio run is insane. Playing up to tempo is near impossible.
fuck no, the hardest is probably, most likely splash. i still cant get that shit
purplekisses nahh Splash isn't too much. I think Dew is definitely their most technically demanding track.
I'm a bass player. Although of course the guitars are the stars of this band, I can't help but notice how simple, but effective and supportive the bass is. Bass + Drums = rhythm section.
joerufo1 I definitely agree, they keep the rhythm, and it doesn't mean they can't make it funky delicious. c:
Chris Boyle
The drummer of Toe is who really stands out to me. Like when the drums come in in Metronome, it's so grand
This band is so refreshing compared to the sea of mediocre metal bands today. I love how their guitars are just on the edge of breakup instead of the typical over saturated tone usually used.
+DomSchu well obviously they're going to sound refreshing if you're comparing them to metal bands, because you know. they're actually not metal.
+The Authority Actually, if you had any reasonable knowledge of what metal music is and the history of metal music, you would know it essentially stemmed from jazz musicians picking up rock and roll. So, this is honestly as metal as it gets. Do us all a favor and shut your mouth about things you don't understand.
+Brandon Higgins Homerun, brother.

that's some three incredibly talented young men
I can't help but picture these guys at a big jazz concert lineup, and the older guys in the other bands like "Damn those kids fuckin rock!"
Those drums sound fucking amazing
It helps that he's a great player.
dude, he's brilliant.
what so good about them is... they barely use heavy distortion. Great stuff!
+Andie Garcia they don't use distortion... is called boosts or compressors to make the sound a little more dirty and ¨heavy´but is not distor
+Diego Zuñiga K guy
+Diego Zuñiga K guy
k guy
Yeah, and in an interview from like maybe a year ago or so, Mario said that most of the times they just play on slightly eq'd stock guitars with no petals or anything, so clearly they like to keep it clean xD
0:45 is easily one of my favorite riffs. The part after in 7/4 is also tight
4:53 , this melody makes me feel so much things, it's just incredible i've never head something like that
That’s chon
I need 10hrs of that section
1:47 the chord break that I always look foward to in chon songs.
Chon never disappoints.
Very true! Oh, and nice car! :P
paul kl Calm down
What the fuck lmfao
I don't think you could ever be in a bad mood if you performed this music every night. The positive vibes are too strong
I love how weird and honest it is.
It's really just some bros jamming,
being chill, enjoying the company of each others tones..
I don't know, maybe I'm just weird myself, but I enjoy the sh* t out of it.
The mustache makes it even better.

Im so glad mountains of creation survived all this time. i would really love to see temporarily destabilized get a revamp too
I so wish they played Temporary Destabilization, I think that's my favourite of the Demo 2008 songs.
same, hopefully theyll throw that ending lick in a future song or something
They did on their tour!
This reminds me of old YES music! Or maybe even Crimson... (Sorry...I'm old...LOL!)
Love it!!
+CSXer if these guys aren't Yes fans, i'll eat my hat
+CSXer Don't even apologize for your age! My dad raised me on 70's fusion jazz and prog, and I definitely agree that CHON reminds me much more of those bands, they're just the next generation of young dudes shredding crazy music.
hoy old are you dude ?
+CSXer i said the exact same thing , not so much melodically but yes and early King crimson were so full of talent all competing for space . its one of the reasons yes had so many line up changes over the years. each member in his own right was good enough to be the anchor of a great band and that much talent usually devours itself
This is old Rush playing an old Yes song.
dude they nailed Suda so hard. It's just like on the album.
I'm late, but they performed it better than the album to be honest :3
@@LuisFeRiffs they played faster than the album version
wow. what an instrumental band chon is . they use modern jazz in their music is just amazing. keep it up guys :)
so technical yet so beautiful. modern day virtuosos
I never get sick of these songs.
God Nathan is one of the best drummers out there rn
i was listening to this, and forgot that i wasnt listening to studio recording! so good!!!
This is so beautiful.
Suda is my favourite song of Chon right now
I can hear those mountains being created. Stones flowing, "buduodududuoeodudueodudoeddiddledeee"
their early materials are true killer
This. This is why I'm so passionate about music and musicality. The lads of CHON who push the boundaries of genre and simply create art. There is probably no better feeling than creating and performing with your best friends and having fun while doing it.
Props to Audiotree for the brilliant set and sound!
Still got some of the crunchiest grooves in all of prog metal.
If Animals As Leaders and TTNG had a baby...
+Tom Post If Chon and Chon had a baby...
+Tom Post Man, if you think CHON sounds like those bands (who I do love), you clearly have never listened to good fusion jazz. Listen to Return to Forever, Weather Report, and Mahavishnu Orchestra to start with
It would be so awesome if they did a collab with chino Moreno.
holy fuck yes I didn't think of that but it would sound amazing
We strive to make music that is kinda like CHON + Deftones. Check us out!
I wish they sounded like this in studio recordings. This performance is so good. It’s like a little sped up. And you can feel the shit out of the drums. For some reason In recordings their drums sound more subdued.
djentle
Kevin Lyons surprising as it may seem, chon are not djent. So gentle would be the appropriate comment
James Kent Don't you mean Djentle? :p
+Caoimhín Ó Laighin you win.
do people really think this kind of music is djent?
not djent
damn post concert depression i gotta see CHON again soon
I like it a lot. Has a Dance Gavin Dance feel to it.
How dare you. Dance Gavin dance? Sounds nothing like two penises rubbing together.
LOL Dance Gavin Dance wishes they sounded like this and I enjoy DGD.
Rudy Garcia Dance Gavin Dance style is all over chon. They do have a lot of Will Swan's swing.
Rudy Garcia Why do you know what two penises rubbing together sounds like?
SireShankALot He already said how he knew, he listened to DGD.
This was brain meltingly good.
These guys put polyphia to shame lol
+Cyle Hawkins truuuu
+michael latham like it's not even a close call lol
+Cyle Hawkins Polyphia is mechanical emotionless, this give me chills
+xseq xqwe dude I know what you mean. Their first demo is one of my favorite pieces of art I've listened too. I thought polyphia sounded good on champagne but after I listened it just didn't resonate like chon does
+Cyle Hawkins I love 'em both !
I love this. Gorgeous. Love the lighter take on the technical prog side of things. so fun to watch and listen to.
Those cymbals are so dark in tone, I love it.
Am I the only one that realizes in the first 3 seconds of mountains of creation there are 7 snare hits?Jesus Christ. Chon gets better everyday
Nevermind he doesn't do the triplet with the snares in this version. On the record you can hear it
I just cannot believe how this serious artist like "CHON" are so unknown in the world music and int he other hand I just see dudes like Justin Bieber, Miley Cirus and Britney getting Millions and Millions for practicly NOTHING, that is just unbelievable and unfair, hope You the best Guys today and always, Your music is just amazing. Congrats.
Way too impressive for most, I believe no one understand our feels normal people prefer shitty music... chon should be on air on any radio 24/7
I totally agree with You bro
Imagine if Chon and Ichika Nito collaborated together
Bravo. Incredible musicians. You will be remembered in the future of music.
Met these guys they are so down to earth and the music speaks for itself

00:45 best part
suda make my day feel fine...
That breakdown is too good 😭😭😭
Something i costume to do is imagine vocals in an instrumental music. I don't need to imagine nothing with this, chon really gives all the visions
I dont mess with rock music that much but this band is seriously talented. Loving the music and i wish the best for them
Saw these guys with animals and conquering dystopia in knoxville they fuckin rock i love how you can tell they're really into the groove
They're groove game is way to loud. They are like "whats that? we can't hear you over our groove."
This is actually nuts, I don't even...
No other music or artist even compares seriously what the fuck tops this? Who's doing this shit?
I agree 100%
Tosin Abasi and all his greatness with Animals As Leaders LOL They actually toured together, Chon is fucking awesome though! SD Represent! =)
check out polyphia and intervals too :)
All of you guys need to listen to more Math rock. then you will see more bands like the style that chon is headed towards.
Tera Melos, Hella, or anything else with Zach Hill, Toe, and lots of other Japanese Math Rock bands, to name a few.
Y mis ojos aún están humedecidos... :')
The Youngsters are next Level .

I LOVE These guys!! Very Talented!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fuck, how I love that 0:46 - 1:11 part.
Their songs are so hard to play.
A more progressive/mellowed out band now that I'm too old for The Fall of Troy. ;) haha jk. Both bands are amazing.

I don't understand how there is even one dislike on these videos. ?? Like what the fuck people????
Nice!

i'm dying to hear more
Tricot out of Japan ?
