    Could you please give me a hand? I'm driving on a diesel car, which is considered to be easier, but every time I get uphill and need to stop, I stall the car because I am not giving enough gas- as the instructor said. How can I drive without stalling with the use of gas? My question is probably a silly one but I am facing a wall of fear when I see a light signal while I am driving uphill. Keep up with the amazing, high quality content! You are doing great!

    • @hungleba3996
      @hungleba3996 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I can try and help you out; depending on the uphill gradient (how steep it is), the car may slow down faster or slower, therefore you will need to decide, when to put the clutch down; if the car is slowing down quite, put the clutch down before reaching 1000rpm on the rev counter/tachometer. The gear you're in is also important, because the higher the gear is, the less engine breaking there is, but as you're going uphill, the car may start to rumble more rough and cause the car to stall easier, than in lower gears. It's all about having good clutch control and making sure you get enough practice on hills.
      Also, if you're on an uphill T-junction, going to the main road, you can either use the handbrake to help you set your feet for the biting point and gas or alternatively, before completely stopping (clutch down and covering the break), add gas and get the biting point without moving the car. This way you can observe (slowly edge forwards with the biting point) and enter the road faster and more efficiently.

    • @nossilfossil3108
      @nossilfossil3108 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Get your foot on the bit point of the clutch, use your handbrake for this as it helps. What I like to do then is repeatedly tapping the gas until you are at about 2k/2.5k rpm and then release the handbrake and stay in lower gears (1/2) until you’re at a level place in the road. Don’t put your foot all the way down as you’ll only over revv the car. Most importantly tho figure out how to recover from a stall quickly as this is very skilful and will help in the test if you do stall so you aren’t obstructing anyone and you shouldn’t be faulted

    • @hungleba3996
      @hungleba3996 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nossilfossil3108 Tapping the gas to try and reach 2000/2500 rpms isn’t as efficient as it’s not very accurate. It’s better to take your time with the gas pedal to get it right, otherwise you could either cause excessive heat and friction on the clutch plates whilst on the biting point (you’ll smell the burning quite soon) or you’ll simply cause excessive noise, which could annoy drivers behind you.

    • @hungleba3996
      @hungleba3996 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nossilfossil3108 P.S. There’s actually a very simple procedure on recovering from a stall; it’s not the case about figuring it out cuz that’s just vague instructions.
      1. When you stall, clutch and brake pedals down.
      2. Restart the car (you may need to turn the key fully off and then restart the engine)
      Side note: If the car doesn’t restart with just the clutch pedal only, use the handbrake and add gas whilst restarting the car.
      3. Make sure your gear is correct (especially manual cars -> 1st gear)
      4. If you’re on a hill, the handbrake start might be necessary (unless you have good clutch control)
      5. Make sure it’s safe to go, and then proceed as usual.

    • @nossilfossil3108
      @nossilfossil3108 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hungleba3996 1) yeah I don’t do it myself but when you are starting to learn doing it helps you figure out your control between the clutch and the gas as a lot of people learn in diesel cars and so they don’t even use gas when moving off they just remain on the clutch. You make fair points bar the last part about noise, you have L plates on for a reason and clearly you are ignorant if you aren’t going to give a learner a break.
      2) when I said recover from a stall all i meant was when you feel you stall, brake and then handbrake so you don’t roll back. I think you must be much older and mustn’t remember when you were learning the very basics of clutch control. This person appears to be struggling so it is helping them as opposed to proving your own point as everyone learns in different ways.

    Is it possible for DVSA/DVLA to reconsider their decision to allow driving lessons and tests to continue? Because non-essential places like garden centres and carpet shops in Sutton Coldfield are open as per usual despite the second lockdown! Also schools and colleges don’t have much social distancing whereas with driving lessons especially as a DGN student we wear masks and my instructor always cleans the car before a lesson so why can’t we use this and continue our driving lessons?! Learning how to drive is educational especially when ppl like me have been subjected to mental trauma from other ppl due to cancelled driving. I had to delay my test from 15 December to 2nd February as there was no other closer date and I’m scared it will mean I need to resit theory the 3rd time again pressure and stress. (From a new ADI) How do you teach parallel parking reference point if the reference point of 'touching the kerb' in the mirror doesn't work on your car ? I usually tell them to stop about 1meter before the kerb at a 45% degree angle (and stop them at that point to see what that looks like) and they eventually get used to it... but sometimes it takes them quite a while to get used to it? Is there an easier way that just trying to calculate what 1 meter looks like? So far it has worked well but I don't want to be missing an easier method which could save a lot of time.. let me know your thoughts please. Thanks! Love the channel BTW

    • @DomXM
      @DomXM 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find with parallel park they either get it or they don’t. I always tell me clients it’s better off to be a bit far away than too close, if you’re too close you’re risking hitting the kerb and failing. If you’re too far away you can just steer more to the kerb in reverse and get closer.

    My test was supposed to be on 1st December and it will automatically get moved - so the people that have theirs after the lockdown surely should get moved back so they can fit everyone that had theirs booked within the lockdown first? Otherwise it’s a bit unfair for the people that had tests booked during lockdown are getting put in February or something and the people that are doing them straight after lockdown may not even be ready?
    I just feel like they should not have any tests in December to let everyone have a little time to fit some lessons in and then starting from January put all the peoples in that had theirs booked during lockdown and then everyone who had theirs 5/6th December onwards :)

    Im learning with my dad, and have my test after lockdown. Im feeling pretty confident as I had lessons before, however I have a few questions.
    At what point (excluding lane changing and moving off) do you have to check your blind spots? And will a mistake here result in a fail?
    Also, when you're on a roundabout and there are 2 exit lanes, how do you handle that / know there are 2 lanes? because I sometimes find myself forcing myself into the left lane without realising there are 2 lanes
    Lastly, what are the manoeuvres I need to practice? There's a lot of contradicting stuff on the internet.

    • @tursiopss
      @tursiopss 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to have a lot of problems with this. It can change a lot depending on the car so I feel like you kind of get your own tecnique with your car (so it is something you will get better with over time) and then if you change to a different car that tecnique might need to change a bit too. What I do is to slowly lift the clutch almost to where the car is starting to vibrate and just a bit before that I am already starting to apply gas so the moment the clutch is like on the middle the car is getting gas to move so I can lift the rest of the clutch without worrying about the car "jumping" or stalling... I don't know if that makes any sense haha if you are doing it fine in some moments just try to remember how do you move your feets when you are doing it good and repeat that ;)
