- Some shots of one session, with some big wipeouts and completed barrels.
Sorry for the low image quality, had lost a brand new Gopro 9 on the first battery of the day, due to a poor mounting on the drone and a huge wipeout.
Anyway, this is still not the barrel I want, but I want to do it at home, so no rush, the deep one will happen!
And the drone hasn’t stopped talking about it since.

Drones have come so far from the very first drone nationals event that yes I was their . And allot of the stuff used today I helped develop grad to see people pushing it more and more cool vids.
@@snowsurfr we built a few waterproof framed drones in fact one was full fiberglass sub style shell we didn't make the air frame but we did all the electronics etc. Look into waterproof battle drones they are a plastic material vacuum formed and assembled to be waterproof and respnd very much like a like a dji f450 slightly smaller but can take a massive beating but flying them in manual and could do just as much as a race drone heck most started out with dji f450s etc back in the day when Naze motherboards and a few others where the only ones around

Very true u can look allot lower then u are depending on what fpv lend you use also. And you upward angle on ur camera u can really get low and fast . But I like u enjoy the smooth flowing movements etc.

Since i dont see it in description and everyone is asking, ITS A WATERPROOF DRONE!!! Yes They are real, they are not any different from a normal drone except that the components have been either sealed off by tight plastic casing or conformal coating. Aside from being fairly difficult to do correctly its actually pretty simple. Im tearing down an older drone of mine now and waterproofing it for the snow coming this winter.
This is a bit of a different case, since it's a closed shell frame.
Great video! Would it be possible to show the entire wipeout and recovery process instead of cutting away at the most interesting (to me at least) part? You said in a comment that you just take off again. What happens if the drone is upside down?? Do you have an RC jetski? :)
This clip was mad with only dji dvr, that's why the cuts. I lost my hero 9 at the first wipeout that day. If you check my Instagram page there's a wipeout with recovery, flying right after tumbling.

Well just found one! SWELL PRO splashdrone 4. Didnt know it existed.
The cuts are the fpv feed cutting out when the drone goes in the water. I lost a GoPro on the first wipeout of the day. Check my Instagram, there is a clip of my drone crashing in a wave and taking off after tumbling.

What drone did you use? Or how many did you kill? Waterproof?
BLDC electric motors work fine underwater, you just have to conformal coat the rest of the electronics and attach something to the drone to make it float. Basically any FPV drone would work

Got to put skid plates on the bottom so when it bottoms out it might catch the rail just right and get out of the tube!!!
It actually skids a lot. just doesn't catch a rail hahah.

Some years ago I got the idea of getting shacked up in a massive barrel with a drone and I thought that would be the most epic drone footage ever! Well it is! Even though sadly I have never even got the chance to try, I'm really stoked to see you do this! Keep at it! The right time and place will happen and just like surfing you gotta pay your dues but you will be rewarded! 🙏🏼 Awesome footage! 👊😎👍

The frame is a closed shell that floats. And it's highly modded to survive these big wipeouts.
@@heavywaterfilms1953 ahh I thought it was an off-the-shelf drone because it doesn't seem as fast as those fpv racers, but I guess those mods add some weight.. or is it really a modded off-the-shelf?

Ok everyone, with a bit of help from heavy water films, I've found it, there's no point trying to timestamp it because you'll miss it, but it's def worth the effort.... It takes a lot of pausing and rewinding but there is a frame or two where you see the lip in the top right hand corner, try around 2:21 - 2:22.

Want a deep barrel check out pipeline on Oahu, Hawaii... the only thing is you need to account for the spit pressure of a bursting blow from behind as your trying to get in a barrel. Also the spray from the lip crashing down and back wash in tube...
Oh really! Thanks we've never heard of Pipeline. What's with people putting crap on this video? If you have read the comments, you'd know that some of those waves were 10-12 foot. Maybe not Pipe but impressive for a drone.

It's a survival mode fpv drone, no poles, nothing. Bare flying and a lot of ocean knowledge.

Yes I am with this guy what are you doing man. Amazing footage and you definitely got a few barrels because those cameras never do it justice. We need answers my new friend which I just subscribed to.
Closed shell frame by Dex model, fully modded to survive all of this and more. This was just one session, so it took all that you see in the video and came home happy hahah. This was shot a Nazaré, Portugal, where I live.

It might be that he conformal coated all of his electronics. I don't believe that the motors have too much of an issue with water so they will continue working. Still quite risky if that's all they did

Done some 360, but to get barreled I preferred to do it with the normal GoPro pov. Makes it more challenging. With a 360 you actually don't really need to be in the barrel to make it look like one. With a GoPro, if you see some cover, it's definitely in it.
