There's no actual licorice in this 'licorice'. Anise tastes like licorice, but it's not actually licorice.

This is not licorice, this is caramel.

This isnt really liquorice because it doesn't have any kind of liquorice extract, its like calling sugar syrup as 'honey' just because it tastes sweet and has dark golden color.

Real licorice is made from some or all of these ingredients- black strap molasses, licorice root extract (which is much sweeter than sugar), coconut oil, sea salt, anise oil and wheat flour. . Unfortunately the European and scandinavian companies who make the best Licorice in the world will not divulge their recipes and process!

OMG, I never had any idea that “ Licorice “ candy had so much sugar. I was looking for real licorice juice. Thanks for sharing.

But anis and licorice are two different things. If you want to make licorice, you need licorice root powder or extract, NOT anis extract, which is real yummy, but entirely different! ☺️

Suddenly I see diabetes mixed in as an invisible ingredient and the need to stay healthy eating a celery stick instead.

In America everyone hates black licorice, we like traditional strawberry and cherry. They are called Twizzlers in America. We have black licorice, but no one likes it. We also have red vines

Made this last night! It's still setting, but was amazingly easy, and watching shiny black stuff bubble was worth the price all on it's own

Thank you for the video. My children watch them as well.
How would you make it more solid, I guess I mean chewier? Does it need to stay in the fridge until eaten? Does it "melt" if you leave it out on the kitchen counter?
