    I own that bike and use it to commute for work every day.
    -
    The range is very dependent on the speed. The display allows you to choose what sort of data is presented in 4 different sections, and one of them is watthours per mile.
    -
    Mine has baggage and I don't lean into the screen to try to achieve efficiency. I dont have the "power tank" , just the stock 14.4Kw battery of which about 12 are usable.
    -
    To give you an example, at around 40mph its using less than 100Wh/m. So at that speed, 10 miles per Kilowatt/H. Around 120 miles range. At 100 mph its using 330Wh/m. At this speed your range is about 40 miles.
    -
    It no longer feels fast to me, instead it appears I am sharing the road with a bunch of golf carts.

      My four and a half mile commute to work paired with my limited 20 to 30 minute riding time due to nerve damage in my back this would work out fine for me. Price is the price and if I could afford it I’d have to decide between the ergos on this and the energica which is even crazier. Will the price come down and the range go up in the future, sure. Some quick notes from an SRF owner here: the belt on yours sounds misaligned as it's rubbing the side on the rear sprocket. Proper aligned you'll hear more wine of motor. Below 10 or 20% SOC power is reduced a lot. Full charge (0-95%) on 6kW (not 7) premium takes 2 hours. 4 hours on 3kW standard. With added charge tank 1 hour. That noise an energica makes is not the chain but reduction gears.

      Yeah it seems like he misstated a lot of stuff and also unless I'm misunderstanding something he pulled out the level two charging plug and said it's the standard level 1 that you can plug into a household outlet overnight. So I'm wondering if you can plug this into a standard 110 like other zero bikes or if it has to be a level two. Zero's never really super clear on this in my opinion.

    I have a zero DSR, I have had it for about a month. I absolutely love it. I have owned two other bikes. The dsr accelerates far faster than the Honda Hurricane I had. You can operate it in three "modes" In eco mode its acceleration feels like a fairly quick moped, very easy to handle, very forgiving. Custom allows me to control torque and top speed (up to about 104) and allows control of regenerative braking, I have mine set without any regenerative braking. and seventy percent torque. This allows for very quiet coasting with rapid but not terrifying acceleration. In sport mode the bike just launches. From a dead stop i feel like I can hit fifty just as I exit a two lane intersection. It's such a different riding experience. I can focus on throttle control and braking without a clutch or any shifting. Put it in eco, drag the brake and its turning in full lock. I put it in eco on residential streets, custom for most stuff and sport on the highways. I even like that it is quiet. I did install two piaa twin horns under the fairing on each side though. Its different, but for commuting and in city riding, It is just awesome. Passing is hilariously easy. Grab and gone.

      There must have been something wrong with the Hurricane. The 600 cc version has more power and only about 20 lbs of additional weight over the DSR. Instant torque and no need to shift make the DSR quick from low speeds and in the midrange, but the 600 can complete the 1/4 mile in the high 11 second range, something not possible on the DSR. 0-60 is also 3.5 seconds for the 600 whereas the DSR takes 3.9. 0-30 and from a low roll the DSR will have a slight jump, but aside from that, the 600 is quicker everywhere. The DSR probably just feels faster.

    Chains don't make a lot of noise, unless they are not lubricated, or are worn or not tensioned or aligned properly. But chains are more efficient, last longer, rarely catastrophically fail (like belts do). But chains do need periodic maintenance.

    Good test (Ouch shorts ) I've run DSR now SRF Premium. DSR goes 20% further (fat tyres and 20kg on SRF ls less efficient ). performance on SRF mind blowing, more to the point has traction control which allows the use of bigger motor/inverter. DSR without it may high side ( don't ask how I know). SRF does about 80 miles range 50% hooning 50% normal UK b roads. Good fun ,fit an RSG tail tidy get rid of snow scoop. Best balance of weight/power at 220kg 14kWh 110HP of any EV bike out and best styled for me. I had a 2021 Zero SR-F out for a test ride about a month ago. Picked it up at the dealer and it was fully charged showing 140km of range! The dealer said that to unlock the last 20% you need to pay to unlock it lol. Whatever, the sale was lost at that moment anyway. About 55km into my rode I was down to 5
    2% battery remaining so I turned around. I never made it home. About 20km into my return ride the dash lit up saying " battery isolation fault" (or something like that). So I pulled over and called the dealer, not wanting to damage their bike. The dealer instructed me to ride it back to the shop, but it would not restart. Underwhelming to say the least. Its fun for the first 10 minutes until the range anxiety pops in. Useless in the real world. Any thoughts of buying one as a toy vaporized with the pay-to-use-what-you-already
    -paid-for model anyway. A long way to being viable in my opinion.

      I've seen a rider take a slide at less than 30 MPH due to some idiot that ran a red light. I think he was in the hospital for a couple of weeks and had to get skin grafts on his ass and thigh. The outer bone on his right ankle was even exposed and ground off a bit. A very painful experience that could have been at least minimized by just wearing jeans and boots, and likely eliminated by wearing riding jeans and boots. He won't even leave his garage for a quick trip around the neighborhood after a brake job without them now.

    I own the blue one in premium trim. 0 - 100% with 6 kW charging in under 1 hour is not true. 6 kWh is 49% of the battery, so 1 hour from 50 to 100% (or 30 to 80%) is realistic. 0 - 100% takes 2,5 - 3 hours with 6 kW. On a trip, you never do that. You don't arrive empty and you don't have to leave full. Because balancing the cells to 100%, takes a lot of time. On a home plug with the granny charger it takes 4 - 4,5 hours, because it uses only one of the 2 onboard chargers then (3 kW each)

    I think these E-Bike manufacturers need to add a automatic 2 or 3 speed gear box to these to help get more mileage.....I can't believe they haven't thought of this....And I never see any manufacturer of any e-bike say what it would cost to replace the battery when it takes a shit.
    Personally if this bike was around 6 to 8k I would buy one just to compare it to my 2019 Kawasaki 650.....Which I love by the way.

    • @custommotor
      @custommotor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are faster then the 650. More like a 600. The reason most of them don't use a gearbox is due to efficiency loss and weight gain.

    • @tdb922f
      @tdb922f 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some motor manufacturers are doing it that way, sort off. If you run the motor at higher speeds (think 15k rpm) you can sneak a little more efficiency, but that's a reduction box, not a multi speed box like you suggest. Have a look at Equipmake.
      There is no range benifit to a "normal" gearbox in an electric vehicle*

    Wow. Looks like a rich boy toy. I don’t get it, unless you realllllly want to go all electric, if that’s kind of a philosophical thing for you, and don’t care how much you have to spend to do it and are willing to give up a lot of convenience (relatively speaking... how convenient are motorcycles?) too.
    I wonder how many back country roads will have conveniently installed level 2 chargers exactly when you hit 0 and have to wait 1 1/2 hours to recharge. The reality is that you shouldn’t discharge to 0 then recharge to 100 all the time and the rapid chargers are harder on batteries than the slower chargers. So practical ranges will be much lower since you’d not want to rapid charge all the time and wouldn’t want to gamble on how far you can go so that you hit your garage at 20% charge.
    Motorcycles in the USA are already a niche market (and unfortunately diminishing). To me, electric bikes are a niche inside of that niche. Battery chemistry (energy density) and recharge times (without damaging cells) must be vastly improved to at least compete with comparable gas powered bikes before I’d consider one.

    You’re going to look like a clown in full tuck at 70 like you would at 120+ so lets call it what it is, it goes 60-70 miles at 70 mph just like all the Zero bikes do. The problem with all EV bikes is the ridiculously short range because theres nowhere to put a bigger battery.
    Two vehicles that will go away when EV’s takeover and that will be motorcycles and boats, both will be pointless.

      I own a Zero S, and these bikes are really for people who commute around town, and maybe the next town over. In 20 years electric bikes will be legit competition to ICE. The technology is really being put to the test now and there is no limit to what is possible with electric ⚡️ charging times will continue to get better and range will improve. Some bikes are fitted with engine notes that are customizable which seems cheesy but you can’t change the sound of a ICE unless you swap the exhaust. There are also bikes that are toying around with a “clutch” to give riders something to fiddle around with while riding. And most importantly prices will continue to get better as competition continues to strengthen in the market. We aren’t there yet but I can’t wait for electric bikes to be feasible
