    Dang, in a regular passenger EV you usually lose about 20% of your range between city/highway. Their SR/F drops from 187 miles city down to 93 miles at 70mph highway... Cut in half. Ouch. It costs 24k too...

    • @SirNarax
      @SirNarax ปีที่แล้ว +4

      93 miles is still pretty high especially for a dual-sport without ferings. You probably won't even want to go as far as it can go. I would happily buy an electric bike that can do highway speeds for 93 miles. That sounds fantastic. But the cost is what kills it. People are getting poorer and the cost to live is growing. If Zero wants to be an enormous success like that of Honda they need low cost options. But they are right now a luxury motorcycle company. As soon as someone else enters the ring Zero could fall. ALthough this bike appears to cost 12k not 24k. Which is admittedly better than a lot of their other bikes but still. You can buy 4,000 dollar scooters that are just as economical.

    • @Snerdles
      @Snerdles ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SirNarax My point was more that because you are not aerodynamic like an enclosed vehicle, instead of dropping about 20% of your rated range for highway driving you drop 50%. I knew it would be worse but that is a massive difference and I thought it surprising that it was that bad.

    Looks cool and fun but the price, currently looking to buy a new bike that’s affordable comfy and is just fun to ride around and I don’t see this beating a Honda pcx which I’m looking to upgrade to a newer moped with a lighter top speed, the comfort and affordability is a big deal for me to get around and still have a bit of fun riding around, if only the zeros were cheaper than they’d be great for zooming around town for lots of people, hopefully we get some competition that can be a bit cheaper than the current electric bikes

    I had one of these a few years ago that I used to commute to work each day. I had the first model year that they had redesigned the permanent magnet motor to make it more efficient. It was good for going to work, but range is such a limiting factor. I once went out with a friend on a gas motorcycle for a ride around town and we went about 10 miles before I realized I might not get back home because we had been going so hard. I rolled into my driveway with the low power light flickering at me. Scary stuff.
    I agree with comment below that this bike is a value if it's 50% off what they're selling it for. Until there is a revolution in battery technology you just don't have the energy density to make a compelling electric motorcycle.
    Oh, and the electrical gremlins on these bikes can be a real pain. I found someone who built some software for reading the diagnostic logs from the main CPU so I was able to diagnose a failed charger myself, but without those type of skills you are going to be stuck bringing your bike to the mechanic. Zero was good enough to replace my power converter free of charge, even though I was technically out of warranty. Good company, OK product, pretty lacking technology in its current state.

    • @SirNarax
      @SirNarax ปีที่แล้ว

      We are already at material limits of our battery technology unfortunately. So unless someone discovers a new way to create a battery with different materials the range goal posts might be more or less stuck without a fundamental rethinking of the shape of a motorcycle. The range problem is not a battery problem it is an aerodynamic one. Every motorcycle has a main mast bringing range crashing down, the human. I get it though I am not trying to say "bro the range is fine get off" because there are trips that I would want to make where this would be getting pretty close to skimming it.
      I don't think the bike is overpriced though. Zero is clearly targeting themselves as a luxury brand and therefor getting decent margins but the problem is not that the bike is overpriced it is that they are overbuilding it. Do electric motorcycles really need a tablet for a dash equipped with a full fledged OS just to tell me I am going 15 over the speed limit? I want an electric bike really bad but it looks like the only options for a decent price are a bunch of Chinese stuff. Which from what people have said they are decent machines for the price but I would be worried if they are decent 5 years down the line.
      Luckily it looks like Zero bikes hold their value extremely poorly so 2nd hand might not be a bad bet if I personally really wanted to get into it.

    • @grazz7865
      @grazz7865 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What no one tells you-and this goes for ALL electric vehicles-is that the stated range is at a rediculous low speed that no one will travel without falling asleep. Every manufacturer will boast about 650 miles of range for example but that’s at 25mph or somewhere thereabouts. I am on my third electric scooter and the same rule applies. If I set it to gear 3, I’m charging it every day.
      As for the motorcycle mechanic, these electric vehicles are designed specifically to be serviced by the dealer only which we all know is at least double priced compared to everyone else.

  • @SirNarax
    @SirNarax ปีที่แล้ว +3

    People are getting poorer. Cost to live is skyrocketing. If Zero wants to sell to everyone they gotta figure out how to drop the price. The people that are the most keen on electric are coming at it looking at the cost to operate as being a huge selling point. But when the thing costs so much to start it throws that out of the window. Luxury brands are fads and Zero charges luxury money.

I’m really sorry I brought it. It works fine, it’s just not comfortable. It’s a lot quieter than my 72 Volt SurRon. No chain noise. It’s fine for a slow, city bike. But there is no excitement. Yes maybe its worth having less exhuast pipes in the cities and if you never leave your city it might be worth it but not at these prices man. Its really like the same situation with the grom except opposite. Where you buy a grom but its hard if its your only bike imcase you need a specialist doctors apointment 80 miles over at 70mph speed limts. This bike cant even do that round trip but it csn do the speed but the problem is it does the speed and not the range for a crazy high cost. A rebel 300 or 500 will outperform the same 80 mile per hour trip at 70mph and they will both have extra fuel when they arrive and then you csn top up in 1 minute at any gas station. No looking for a plug to charge after they told you you got cancer. Now yiu got cancer, no money, and yohr ride still has to charge for 2 hours before you can even start the ride home. A rebel 500 costs way way way less and orobably can do 80mph easy all day, pump gas in the tank and do it again
