So when Kyle was the only Green Lantern in the universe, he had access to the full range of Willpower with no limitations and became super overpowered. But once more GL's came into being again, that power was divided up between them all and caused them to get nerfed from what Kyle could do, including Kyle himself. With more Lanterns, there's less power to go around. That's my understanding of it, at least. Am I on the right track?
Yes, that’s pretty much what he’s saying in this video. Makes sense if you think about it from a power source perspective from the central battery and how finite it is when spread around to a large group of GL members.
That is entirely and complete headcanon though They became weaker because too many writers. Kyle didn't channel the power of the entire corps. He never did. In fact, Hal did when he became Parallax, he stole the powers of Central battery to himself.
Even that isn't necessarily true, and is mostly headcanon. Since Hal is allowed to have absurd willpower at the wim of the writer because he's Hal Jordan. Also if this was true, Kyle would've had no power when Hal was going around with/as Parallax, because he absorbed the entire power battery.
I know the answer. Writer inconsistency. There should be no dip in power because each ring holds its own distinct charge that is amplified from the users own will power. Power of the rings doesn't come from the battery itself, it comes from the will power of the user who has a set charge that they can use. DC probably didn't like the idea of basically an army of planet popping space cops so they just decided to nerf the heck out of them.
*YES* Over the years writers keep nerfing and nerfing the GL corps to ridiculous degrees for a variety of reasons. 1. They aren’t as popular as the other DC superheroes so they make them job to more popular ones such as Wonder Woman or Batman. Green lantern in the 60/70’s wouldn’t have lost against Diana like he did in New 52. 2. The movie has ruined the reputation of Green Lantern and now anyone that holds the mantle is seen as a joke. The infamous yellow paint form All Star Batman and the clown he was written as in New 52 shows as much. 3. Writers have no creativity or lack understanding of Green Lantern. His ring can do *anything* summon elements, go intangible, information analysis, time stop, absorption, but all they do nowadays is make Green lantern shoot energy blast and sometimes use constructs.
I became a big fan of Hal when I read "emerald dawn" here in Brazil. But when they have to make he the villain to promote this "Green Peter Parker", I give up to read more stuff from Green Lantern. Till the day Hal became was he supposed to be again.
He will allways og Sometimes I see it as in a multivers kind of Thing So basically there's multive Vers of hal so he's a A goat In most of the universes for maybe a small view
I don’t think they necessarily got weaker over the years, but writers changing the overall level of power of everyone during modern ages of comics. A lot of them get strong and then weak again over the years like you said. Sinestro, as a regular lantern, is also able to tank Volthoom blowing up an entire planet on him and he was fine other than emotionally. In Green Lantern: Season 2, it only took 3 Green Lanterns to make an entire sun for hours. Then Hal Jordan was able to kill an entire adult sun eater in one shot despite it’s obvious ability to entire suns and galaxies. Though, I do think this is a very interesting theory however.
what one shot is that? Morrison made the rings more powerful, it makes sense in the context of his story and it was also that strong with crazy powers in the Silver age where green lanterns could even travel through time. Heck, it happened with Kyle too a COUPLE OF TIMES, he and Jordan have literally switched places, time-traveled, met lanterns from other universes in their respective series (Kyle in Ron marz and Judd winick's stories, Hal in his silver age stories and Morrison run, etc)
They did answer why Kyle was that powerful. When he was first became green lantern he was made the holder of the will entity the Ion power (unknown to him at the time). He couldn't readily access it till later.
Great video Dan. Interesting theory and perspective on the current state of the Green Lantern Corps, but what I enjoy most about this video is the acknowledgement of my favourite GL Kyle Rayner and the amazing things he was able to do with a power ring during the time of him being the only Green Lantern.
That's an excellent question, and...probably, yeah. The biggest problem Lex would have is that the orange light warps the mind of whoever tries to wield it, so he wouldn't necessarily be adding immense power to his immense knowledge, he'd be giving up some of who he is in exchange for power...and I don't think Lex's ego would allow that.
Kyle’s power levels before Green Lantern Rebirth were insane and when he became Ion he became even more powerful. I didn’t read any of Kyles comics but holy shit do I respect him, I always thought of him and Wally as the comic relief of the Justice League but when you look at some of the feats they both accomplished they are in fact some of the most op characters in the DC Universe and they’re lucky they are both good people and understand what their powers are capable of.
Kyle is honestly a very underrated lantern, even Hal thinks of him as the best Lantern despite admitting he's the best in will. When Hal came back after his stint as the spectre he flat out told Sinestro, who was badmouthing Kyle "Kyle carried the torch when no one else did, when no one else could. You will respect him!"
This is why Kyle has been my favourite for such a long time, I really don’t think he’s given the love he used to, I’m preying he’s introduced to James gun’s DCU
Minor correction: The Green Lantern Central Power battery doesn't collect ambient emotional energy. It gathers all willpower from each Green Lantern Corp member. That power is distributed to all personal lantern batteries and used to charge the rings. This is how Lanterns can "run out" of emotions despite that not making sense since emotions are limited elements. It's made so if a Lantern goes rogue they simply need to disconnect them from the network and they won't be able to recharge anymore. Your theory makes sense though, it can still work given the fact Eon would still reside in the power battery and Kyle's ring and lantern wouldn't be sharing power with other lanterns so he could use his willpower to the fullest extent since it wouldn't become a part of the central power battery to help other lanterns anymore.
If Green Lantern switched to legacy numbering ,because of the nature of the corps, would it include' GL Corps' Series as well as other spinoffs like Guy Gardener? Or would it only include Hal Jordan issues?
First of all that wasn't the only Green lantern and it was a special Green lantern ring I think it was made out of part of the battery itself and then he got his actual lantern later on because when he first got his ring it would charge up on its own so it could regularly maintain power because it's couple times he ran out of power and then just started working again it charged on its own probably some of it has to do with it being a battery piece that it still collects willpower the people around it
Are you talking about Kyle's ring? Because Kyle's ring was made from Hal's old ring, Ganthet reforged the pieces right before leaving Oa at the end of Emerald Twilight. It had a charge when Kyle got it, but ran out after four issues, which was right before he got his battery (which was a piece of the old Central Battery).
Yeah. The more Lanterns are around, the weaker they are, individually. That’s one reason I don’t like seeing them operate as an army. It should rarely be necessary.
Green Lantern s are so over powered. Corrps need a lot to be useful. Yellow lanterns, Sinstor group and other Lantern groups. Never been a bm fan of these guys

Yes and it’s better this way because no one Green Lantern can protect the entire universe, which is the whole point of the Corps
I know the answer. Writer inconsistency. There should be no dip in power because each ring holds its own distinct charge that is amplified from the users own will power. Power of the rings doesn't come from the battery itself, it comes from the will power of the user who has a set charge that they can use.

I agree with this. The inconsistencies with GL is so annoying. The ring used to create kryptonite for crying out loud.
Kyle Rayner is my favorite Green Lantern, and my favorite superhero of all time. With all respect for Hal and the rest.

Im so glad i found this channel.
yes i miss Hal Jordan being a powerhouse

#makegreenlanternsstrongagain
A green lantern dedicated channel.
They did answer why Kyle was that powerful. When he was first became green lantern he was made the holder of the will entity the Ion power (unknown to him at the time). He couldn't readily access it till later.
Really good video, I like the in universe reason why it takes a team rather than one person.
This makes me just miss the color corps more😄.
This was always my headcannon! Great to see we're on the same page.
Great minds.
This is an awesome channel that deserves so much more attention. Keep it up man.
Thank you so much.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Kyle Rayner made me really get into the Green Lantern section of the DCU,, as well.
Also love your explanation for Kyle’s power. Makes a lot of sense
Thanks!
If that is so could lex luthor with a orange lantern fill the power gap between him and superman ?
That's an excellent question, and...probably, yeah. Could you do video about out all the members of the green lantern corpse
Saw your video on the gold lantern. But what would a silver lantern corps be if it existed? I don't know, speculation video?
If Green Lantern switched to legacy numbering ,because of the nature of the corps, would it include' GL Corps'
Series as well as other spinoffs like Guy Gardener? Or would it only include Hal Jordan issues?
I always liked Sodam Yat, Ion. I mean, Hal is still my OG fave, but Ion was damn cool.
Armazing video, really like it
Thank you.
Great video! That theory makes perfect sense. What issue did Kyle get his lantern battery?
Kyle got his battery in Green Lantern #55. It's the cover with Kyle fighting Alan Scott, and there's a Zero Hour banner at the top.
@@MosaicComics oh I actually have that issue, totally forgot that happened haha
First of all that wasn't the only Green lantern and it was a special Green lantern ring I think it was made out of part of the battery itself and then he got his actual lantern later on because when he first got his ring it would charge up on its own so it could regularly maintain power because it's couple times he ran out of power and then just started working again it charged on its own probably some of it has to do with it being a battery piece that it still collects willpower the people around it

Honestly I thought Hal was way more interesting as Parallax than as a Green Lantern
Wait wasent Kyle power by ion at this time.
it could just be writers inconstnces or power creep
Its just conversation of Ninjitsu
I can't believe Robert Vinditti wrote Kyle as the weak 'sissy' Green Lantern.
He really ignored what Kyle did in the past.
Kyle nuked a planet and survived?? How strong is this guy?
Considering that he was able to stall Solaris for a few hours? Fucking strong.
Contained about 72 blackholes in a construct.
At his highest? He's around low multiversal
Hnnng persona music
Green Lantern s are so over powered. Corrps need a lot to be useful. Yellow lanterns, Sinstor group and other Lantern groups. Never been a bm fan of these guys
