Thanks so much for this video! We'd just gotten twenty three inches of snow overnight, two days before my husband had fallen on the ice and broken his arm. I've never shoveled the roof before, thanks for showing me how!
TimTools99 Boy how I love duct tape. Good job on the roof. But being raised in Florida and living here all my life I have to ask please. Why did you shovel your roof? Is that a pretty standard thing to do. Truth be known, I'm actually considering selling my Duplex and moving up North. I'm just not sure my old body can handle that kind of rigorous living condition. Perhaps I could look for a 55 or older community and get a boyfriend like you. The good ones though are probably married, lol😇
Years ago, we experienced leaks inside when the snow melted on the roof. It will melt and refreeze over and over again until you have monster ice up there. Then, when we get a good thaw, the water can back up under the shingles and leak inside. I've even seen the ice crash off the house taking the gutter and soffit with it. Best to shovel the snow off before the thaw. Most people are unable to do this work and they get a lot of water damage inside every winter. I have one neighbor that shovels his roof too. This house that I have is terrible design for this climate. Houses with steep metal roofs are the best!
Yes, I have a roof rake but when the snow is is so dense and heavy it does not work well. I can shovel it off much faster. I went to college in Syracuse and I remember the snow down there too! Thanks for watching.
In Rochester , I do the same thing. Yet I only shovel about 3-4 from the edge , usually works. On a few occasions I have done the whole damn roof. I have a center split terrible design for western NY.
Hello Markinpuff! I have had cloudy weather here for over a month. The SCT is a nice telescope and I am learning to appreciate it as I go along. I just wish I would get a clear night .....
I always have to do my neighbors roof thats alot wider and for me since It’s so long of a roof I start on one side at a the bottom corner and I clean off a shovel width going from the bottom to the top. Then I go back down and do another shovel width going to the top and just keep doing it that way so if snow ever sticks up I can reach it and not step on an icy roof
@@markbeckham7298 I hear you Mark! It's a trade-off I guess. I can't tolerate the heat anymore and I don't like all the bugs, snakes and critters like alligators. Hurricanes and crazy New York drivers who have retired and moved to Florida would stress me out too. Ha!

Good luck. Don't fall off that roof!
You must have the heart of a stallion with that exercise. Think I'll stay here in Florida for a bit longer!
Ha! I am getting tired of doing it. Not getting any younger. I think i will find some young fellas to do it next time..

Ha! Yes, the tower and beam do a good job for me. Haven't been too active lately. Tnx fear QSO! 73's
Better idea: get a 30$ roof rake
Good technique. Is your roof composition or metal? Thanks
I've never heard of anyone shoveling a roof but I suppose it has to be done. Does everyone do this where you live?

why no roof rake? i'm originally from Syracuse area and they are pretty common there. I have one now, but never needed it in the north towns.

Make sure no vents are clogged, due to carbon dioxide poisoning (Happened in Buffalo NY)

Metal shovel will result is damaged shingles. Not a good idea.
I think he says he leaves some snow and he doesn't shovel all the way down to the roof.
Tim, we're getting too old to be on the roof. ....
But it beats rocking in a chair. :)
Yea, I did too much in one day. Wasn't worth too much the next day!
I have the perfect answer for How to shovel a roof and that is move to Florida!
That would work too.!!
@@TimTools99 Although I would love a good snow here in Clearwater Florida but just without having to clean off a roof or dig my car out of snow!
