Listen close to Tyros (and Korg PA ) and now this. And it is very very clear one can hear that there is a whole new motor in this maschine. Much more dynamic and details and much more live sounding than especially the Tyros. And the evo drums with wave cykling/ round robin- WOW. A lot more and new S art 2 voices, Mega Voces, Live voices Not to mention the big touch screen. Of course it has been expensive for Yamaha to develop this monster of a Music-machine. It's all about contents ! Why not try and hear it live before You buy it. It is the only and most correct way to find out if it is for You. But be warned :-) I'm not sure You can resist. At least I 'm not shure that I can :-) (Don't show my wife this comment :-) Thank you again Martin Harris for all your fine demoes
In my dreams maybe. A beautiful machine that’s for sure. Just waiting for the lotto numbers first though. Won’t be long. I wouldn’t get a minutes sleep with this bad boy.
God really blessed me and I was able to buy one of these. Hands down the best musical purchase of my life. I cannot stress how great this is FOR SONGWRITERS. I would never gig or recommend this for anything but songwriting. (unless of course you want to do weddings or small gatherings) Hands down..just an amazing piece of equipment.
Songwriters who worked for Celine Dion who had this Genos by Yamaha, but I was being told by a dealer from a music store at Sam Ash about the price & it was about $5,499 & it's fully of what you see from here. Cross fader blend, tapping the other buttons & converted mixes. Only professional & amateurs can use this for bigger shows like that. But I maybe wrong on automatic listing sounds with "80's pop blends" to "salsa blends" as you touch the screen & sampling sounds as well.
bit too pricey for me, high-end workstations always are, but it sounds good and Martin does a great demo as always. the 80's styles that martin showcased from bananarama and u2 were a bit cheezy, i dislike styles that imitate a hit song, because they then only become useful for playing that particular song and nothing else. it may sound somewhat impressive on the demos for certain people, but a waste of space imho.
Completely agree with the lack of versatility of styles based on a song! Woody, your comments on Genos are balanced and informed. Completely agree with the lack of versatility of styles based on a song! However, they are in stark contrast to the usual suspects collectively known as the youtube nurds who know very little about playing keyboards but feel supremely confident about their ability to criticise the musical abilities of everyone and the qualities of mass-produced keyboards. I have a Korg Kronos and enjoy playing it. However, arrangers with their much-improved sounds, are just easier to use when putting songs together. Korg and Yamaha produce excellent arrangers. Other manufacturers and software packages are cheaper but still worth considering.
This is a great piece of equipment for a songwriter in pre-production,or a guy with a one, two,or three man band in a lounge here in Vegas, but in a studio environment,it would be nice to have separate outputs for each group of instruments,(drums, piano, guitars, woodwinds, strings) so you can create the mix you want or you'd have to overdub every instrument when producing a song, which kind of defeats the purpose of this instrument in a studio environment. For almost six grand,I'd want professional "hi-z"outputs for each group.
Hi,Martin, this is the first of your videos that i have come across, where you actually explain what you are doing. Well done, i have learned something from this one. Keep it up. It is the first time in 3 years for me. Lets have some more, please.
Bolted to he front of a Mobility Scooter you could actually go and do the shopping while jamming!! The ultimate "Pensioner Piano!!" Imagine! "Baked Beans on special, Isle 5" and you have a full band at your disposal as you race over there.
My best guess and simple answer is that this thing is more like a Tyros and Montage is more like a Motif. Montage is a performance synthesizer, and this seems more like an arranger. This is maybe more like a Motif in the sense it's a studio in a box, but maybe not so much like a Motif in that it seems more arranger like than synthesizer like ( by that I mean, I guess editing sounds on this thing, might be more limited or different than on something like a Motif.) Until I see the manual, I admit I am guessing. Also note that the Montage has FM, and motion sequencing, which are synth like things, and this probably doesn't have such things.
I don’t think I’ll bother upgrading from my tyros 5 at the moment. All I’ve heard so far is some higher quality sounds. And some newer drum kits. Is there anything on this worth spending another 3000 pounds on? Or is there just newer voices and styles and the arp
Don't be fooled..... They process the dickens out of this thing!! You'll never replicate it.... and of course ... they won't tell you .... It's all a sales gimmick ....
I really wish they would tell us what speakers they are hooked up to, to give these demonstrations The Genos is a great instrument but there is no doubt good speakers enhance the sound.
The genos and the psr sx900 are the best creations from yamaha. I can't think of another psr after sx900 cuz it's really. It has so much everything literally from genos. One thing I am well worried is the life os genos and the psr sx900. How long would they last and would the touch sensitivity fade off?
Is there anyone knows the email contact of this guy, Martin? I just need to know if the melody at 10:52 is owned by him or by Yamaha? I am asking this because I used this melody and created a full song out of it. So, if it's owned by Martin, I have first to ask his permission before uploading it to SoundCloud. If owned by Yamaha, I don't have to pay anything to Yamaha since they already took my 5K fron Genos purchase. So literally, all style and voice presets are owned by me.
Be well-placed in a 4 piece band in an expensive holiday park, or similar. The auto accompaniment will be handy when the band f##ks off, because drinks are not free!
Genos has a very compact homogeneous sound at all and right out of the box a production sounds very "official". The Genos doesn`t sound like a "entertainer/one man karaoke toy", `cause it has more of a real studio-production machine with authentic sounds that you know just from good VSTi`s. If I didn`t already have the Motif in my setup I would buy a Genos for sure.
These things are amazing, however, no way they should cost so much! I worked once in a piano/organ store. The markup was double! The Yamaha HX we got was $16,000.00! Cost the store less than $8,000.00. If it didn't sell, Yamaha would take it back. That instrument was featured in the movie, The Running Man. I think Arnold starred in that. At this stage, these keyboards don't cost the manufacturers much, no matter how amazing they sound. The tech is pretty much as good as it's gonna get.
- 2nd LCD for live controller parameters - Joystick instead of mod + pitch weel (hopefully as sensitive as those Korg and Roland ones) - decently sized touch screen Good move, Yamaha. I've been waiting for those features on an arranger for years. Too bad there's still more or less sampling technology only. I would have loved to see more modelling (analog + physical). But still this is a step in the right direction which was long overdue.
You are right Kerry, the sampling method used by Yamaha is called AWM; a little description: "The AWM (Advanced Wave Memory) is a sampling system which creates the realism of an acoustic instrument by using digital technology to record the instrument sound and applying high-quality digital filter technology to the recorded audio samples. The waveform of the sound created by playing the key of an acoustic piano differs depending on the playing strength from pianissimo to fortissimo. The AWM Dynamic Stereo Sampling can produce such dynamic nuances by recording samples of various playing strengths. The greater the number of samples used, the higher the expression."
i think as far as sound's and quality it sounds amazing, i have a korg pa 4x and it is also amazing quality, so this makes scene to be if anything better.the mane thing i find is being that they are now having a touch screen they left the least buttons possible, and for yamaha users whom are use to using all buttons its a big change, maybe they should have done it in steps ,something like the 4x witch has both options i think is more alternative in this aspect. but it looks like good stuff
I bought yamaha genos 4 years ago. I waited for an update to give this instrument a decent or even a bearable sequencer but nothing. Even with Genos 2.0 firmaware update you did nothing on that. You can even export multitrack so we can export our creation and mix it properly on a DAW. I really dont understand how a flagship “wprkstation”doesnt have a reall sequencer. You can only do midi/audio recording and step edit the midi messages which is like trying to create chiptunes music but even harder. You now have Genos version 2, so I dont believe that we all the owners of the first version will get any new firmware with new features. I really try to sell my keyboard to get anything from AKAI or even ROLAND Fantom or even a small stand alone groovebox in order to be able to produce music DAWless. Please forward a message to product managers to hep them understand that a workstation means DAWLess production and with Genos or even montage this is not possible at all.
It's a normal pro instrument - you need to hook it up to speakers somehow. It does have a speaker system marketed for it, and a stand. Probably both expensive given it's price though :) Powered speakers, like KRK or Yamaha is a typical way to get sound from synthesizers. They used to make keyboard amps ( with speaker), but those make sense for mono keyboards, and this is a definitely stereo keyboard.
I've seen the speakers now but this isn't hooked up to them it's playing through more expensive speakers. Now I have to wonder how good it sounds coming through the speakers designed for it.
sounds like they just made the styles sound more depth in them and some new ones ,and i bet the keybed action is exactly the same as tyros 5 ,korg pa4x has a better keybed and more expression than yamaha
Great demo, great instrument and even greater demonstrator but I am not sure how am gonna get it, if I start saving now it will be out of date by the time I am ready for it - Are there any deals in UK?

Thank you again Martin Harris for all your fine demoes
Never mind the keyboard, how good is Martin Harris!!!
A great demo that almost made me lose sight of the cost!
The first look! Great demo...great instrument workstation! Great work! Thx!
I might buy this sucker just because of 6:50. Beautiful!
Wow ! thanks Yamaha and Martin, this is again a big step forward. Start working on the next one already!!!
You meant to say "this is again, a big step backwards ...." Right?
LOVE YOUR DEMOS MR HARIS ALWAYS GREAT KEEPM IT UP
So nice!!! Look at left left hand 18:58
Superb instrument and introduction to Genos as always Martin.
25:27.....BLOWN AWAY.When I will get some money, is the keyboard who I'm gonna buy.
AMAZING INSTRUMENT AMAZING DEMO AS USUAL LOVE IT AWESOME
This is quite a nice video Martin, it’s nice when you talk and explain what you are doing. It’s very helpful. 😊
Really enjoyed your playing.
One of my dream keyboard
It would be interesting a comparison of sounds side by side with Tyros 5
Awesome Geno's keyboard, love it.
In my dreams maybe. A beautiful machine that’s for sure. Just waiting for the lotto numbers first though. Won’t be long. I wouldn’t get a minutes sleep with this bad boy.

Jay Grae why no recommend? I was thinking for church. Not good quality sounds?

Fantastica!!! Sarà la mia prossima tastiera.

Hi Martin, what's the name of the song you play at minute 21:53? It is very beautiful. Thank you.
It's funny that Yamaha finally added XLR capability for the Mic input, it was more or less an afterthought on the s970
Wowser guys it’s looking and sounding amazing!!!
LOL!
The song at 7:00 is amazing
And I forgot to say that your demonstration was great.
Hi,Martin, this is the first of your videos that i have come across, where you actually explain what you are doing. Well done, i have learned something from this one. Keep it up. It is the first time in 3 years for me. Lets have some more, please.
Incredible! Great demo - wish I could play! Just have to stick to my bassoon, recorder & ukulele!
I am using VST's at the moment but this Genos is on my whislist at the top.
oh man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love this Genos
Very nice demo. LIke to see more demos on the free play styles.
Bolted to he front of a Mobility Scooter you could actually go and do the shopping while jamming!! The ultimate "Pensioner Piano!!" Imagine! "Baked Beans on special, Isle 5" and you have a full band at your disposal as you race over there.
Great idea, make sure you talk loud as you can to irritate everybody with your cell phone too.
DAMN, Now I want to add a GENOS
to my studio . . . . .
Good job Yamaha
Impressive keyboard
I need one now!
amazing instrument
Genos is heaven on Earth ♥️😍🤩
Looks Great!
Amazing machine !
I WANTED TO GET ONE BUT I CANT LIVE WITHOUT MY LUNGS LOL
Prophetic
Superbbb no words to say
Hi, At 22:54 there a voice-track I love. Can anyone tell me what it is and where to get it from?
That is an audio link. I can create it
I would actually PAY for the extended version of the melody tune you played from 6.24
WOW, This looks amazing!!! As a novice in the keyboard world, I wonder how this compares to the Montage?

Very nice instrument.
Amazing !
My first keyboard was Yamaha PSR 82 lol
А моя первая была PSR 520
I am Shocked
Ok, Drinking Game time.
Have a shot every time he says "REALLY REALLY" and "MANY MANY"
Wonderful Demo
What was the date it was released?
Can someone please tell me the audio interface that is being used with this video? It sounds amazing.
häh?
...is there really such thing as an 'amazing sounding' line-level interface?
Audio interface? Everything was done on the genos!
It’s the cables not Audio interface
Don't be fooled..... They process the dickens out of this thing!! You'll never replicate it.... and of course ... they won't tell you .... It's all a sales gimmick ....

Martin, what level do you use on the expression setting?
👏🏻 Really enjoyed your video! 😻 👍🏼 💖
24:21 " Game of Genos" 😁

Luv the design and its made to lift easily. Leelo Dallas Multi-Padssss.

i love how you can buy an android tablet for $50 nowadays, but to get a decent touch screen on a keyboard costs thousands. heh
i LOVE YAMAHA brand
Cool I wonder how the Discohands style sounds now :D
Brilliant keyboard and brilliantly demonstrated...now to save my pennies
To jest Yamaha :-) super
What is song 23 minute?
interested
You'd need to sell a kidney to afford it, maybe both kidneys 😊
GREAT!
Awesome
great sound I like it what price
Bungo Mutum a

I've a request. Can you do a comparison video between Yamaha L, LL and LS pls!

Faz um vídeo mostrando os timbres de acordeons (acordions) desse genos .
no
4:01 What kind of style is this?
Chill Performer in EasyListening group.

WOW !!!

How much the Yamaha Genos cost?
around 4000€
actually 4500 euro :/
$6,799.00
I see it has a balanced (xlr) mic input. On an expensive instrument its a pity it couldnt have been designed with balanced stereo main outputs.
Looks like it has ¼ " stereo outs.
Can you do a comparison video between FG180 50th edition and LL16 ARE and LL16M ARE pls!?

Could you take a moment to explain how playing a chord in the left hand say F-G-A doesn't result in a disonant?
this is so new, I can't find it on yamaha site lol
Does this have built-in speakers or is it connected to outside speakers?
It's a normal pro instrument - you need to hook it up to speakers somehow. It does have a speaker system marketed for it, and a stand. Can we route DSP effects on a timbre..?
What amplifier are you using?
Sick. It sounds amazing. But a lot of money. I just bought korg Pa4x. but this thing is next level
great demo martin, sadely, too expensive for my wallet
