This demo has pulled me over the line. The strings are so beautifully demonstrated (Mantovani Glenn Miller) that I sold my Tyros 5 and ordered a Genos. Thanks for this very good demo one of the best.
My Dad, Richard, has already ordered his and is eagerly awaiting the stock to come in. He has always been a keyboard enthusiast and I remember growing up in a household where I could sit and play on a top of the range keyboard or organ. He only buys from Bonners and often says that Tony is one of the nicest, most friendly and knowledgeable people he has ever met. I'll always remember going along to Bonners one day to check out a new keyboard with my Dad (I was about 15, so this was back around '95) and spying a dusty "well-used" Roland CR-78 on a shelf at the back of the shop. I was allowed to have a play with it but couldn't convince Dad that it was a good purchase. It's worth a lot more now than it was back then and would sound so good with my Roland TB-303 and MC-202. Great demo/review. Andrew played beautifully without being too fancy. It does make it seem easy for the none professional player. Love the new strings and drums. Definitely considering changing mine. Well done lads. Sue x
Great demo. Makes me want one. I have also looked at Korg PA 4X. I’m glad this guy plays at my level rather than the other demos where the players are unbelievable and it makes me feel inferior.
Big band music is fun, and other styles are nice, but no sound can surpass Orchestra music for soul satisfying serenity. It brings peace, relaxation and inner harmony to the sometimes weary human spirit. Thank you so much Andrew for the beautiful, Mantovani selection, "Charmaine", which was written in the early 1920s.

I’m a blind keyboard player and out of all the ones I’ve had so far I’ve found the tyros the most easiest to access the styles and voices on. So I was wondering, is it essential to use the touchscreen on this keyboard or can I do everything on it without the touchscreen? Also, how exactly do I store the one touch settings in the registration memory? If I don’t have to use the touchscreen, I think I’m going to get one of these when my previous workstation gives up the ghost. I found this review really helpful in terms of the styles and the articulation. I totally agree with what you’re saying! There are huge improvements to the sounds on this on the tire us!
I think the genos is buttons from what i can tell, so you should be able to get around that with the buttons. I am blind myself, didnt see or come across any touch screen
Tony, here in the U.S., we don't really have the 'home market' as much as it seems you do in the U.K. I'm happy to see that the U.K. does have more 'home players' than here. I currently own a Korg PA800, and while it's been a wonderful keyboard for me, it is getting long in tooth. I've had to replace both the power supply and the touch screen display. Compared to some of the newer keyboards, the sounds aren't quite as realistic, the styles need to be updated (yes, I could load my own, but I'm not that good at that). and overall, I'd like a newer keyboard, preferably one with 76 keys. I've been a Korg fan since the original i3 came out, and at that time, I was selling pianos, organs and keyboards, and the Korg just blew them away. Compared to the Tyros 5, I still think the PA4X Pro is a better keyboard, but in listening to this demo with Andy, the Genos has come a long way forward for Yamaha. I like Yamaha products, pianos, Clavinovas, etc., but for the past few years, I've thought the PA arrangers were better than anything Yamaha produced. Since you've have the opportunity to play both, extensively, if you had to lay down your hard earned cash for the Genos with the speaker set, or the PA4X Pro with the PAas system, which would it be, and why? I can't purchase from Bonners, unfortunately, but I would like your opinion. You guys have the BEST review videos on keyboards on the net, and I trust you.
As a musician, it is my belief that a really great keyboard/piano player can sound better on a PSR S910 or a PSR S975 than a mediocre player on a Genos. In other words, the keyboard is only as good as the ability the musician has to understand how instruments sound and mastering the pitch bend etc. I have played a PSR S710 and people have told me I make it sound like a Tyros for example. So that's my humble opinion. What do you people think?
Agree 100 %... I'm an amateur home keyboard player (not much left hand other than up to 7th, 9th, 11th, accompanimenting). I have a 5 years-old Yamaha PSR E433 (entry level basic functionality) at home for personal entertainment. When I bought it, I thought anything better would be an overkill for my skills (actually for my budget ;-) when compared to DGX-650 at that moment ). And since than I was dreaming of having a better keyboard something like DGX-650, PSR-S950 (or now PSR-SX900), or even a Motif, Tyros etc., thinking that I would sound much better on those devices... Untill the Covid-19, I was just using mine for daily 20 minute relaxation moments, and not much improvement... But for the last few months I've spent my almost whole time on it, and I can see the daily improvement especially on learning new songs and functionalities of the keyboard, and as I play better (better songs and better fingering) it started to sound more and more professional with the same device... I have also seen that the keyboard already had some surprising features (such as a six-track sequencer - song recorder, and 8x4 register memory, style update through usb [which I thought was only found on pro-devices!] and auto arpeggio) that I didn't even notice for five years... And I must admit, recently I have seen another demo for one of the top notch keyboards, and some voices in it are almost identical to those in my entry level device... Of course there are great differences too, the pro devices has some killer realistic sounds and after touch effects, and if I could afford I would definitely buy one of those pro keyboards, but all I want to say is that, as you have said, a good player would definetely make a good sound out of any instrument, as it is the ART of playing what really matters at the end...
@@4thesakeofitname Well said keep up the practice. It was always the mantra of Mr Ray Charles Practice Practice Practice. That is the name of the game.
Great demo and playing. Where do you actually get music written for keyboard use? Traditional piano music has full notes for left and right hand and I can see that the keyboard can be played well with less going on with the left hand and the right hand carrying the melody. I am a pianist wanting to get more creative with a keyboard...
When will be available the new Genos arranger after more than three years? The function CHORD is very important and must be implemented and enhanced on the new model. I am a musician and guitarrist bassist but I am not a good pianist- like all the players of arranger keyboards- so I always use the function Chord for themes with sophisticated chords. So how long have we to wait for the new model?
Hi there, and thank you for a very nice and instructive demo! Two questions: 1) Can Yamaha Genos be connected to a 88 keys keyboard, e.g. Yamaha CP4 as I have, so that I can play all the sounds from the Yamaha Genos included stored preferences, on my 88 key keyboard? Meaning that e.g. the pianosound from the Yamaha Genos will spread on all 88 keys on the Yamaha CP4. 2) Can the Yamaha Genos be used as a drum and bass machine? Meaning that I can record a certain drum pattern with fill in in the places I program them to be, including variation in the beats and also the stop? Can bass lines also be programmed on top of such a drum beat, as well as other sounds? This can be useful for use in my own production of music. On top of such a recording I can play on another instrument. Hoping for an answer to this, thank you. Best regards from Stein
Hello Stein. Thank you very much for your comments. Yes, you can do all of these things using the Yamaha Genos with the Multi recording features, and you can use your CP4 as a Midi controller to access all of the sounds within the Genos across all 88 notes should you wish. For more details about how to do these things, check out the Genos Manual pdf on the Yamaha UK Website.
My Keyboard was just ordered this year 2021 in December. I found out that it was set to the UK time Zone does that mean it was from someone in the UK or was it direct from Factory and are they made in the UK as well as other places.?
I am doubting to buy a CVP 709 or a Genos . This video makes it even more difficult . I think there are more possibilities with the Genos ... But the CVP 709 looks so much better ... What to choose ....
Hi guys, On the tyros 5 there was a button "recommended" to let the workstation choose a style. You chose the tempo, selected 3/4 or 4/4 measure and played the melody. The tyros then gave 8 possible preferences. Where is that option at the Genos?
I know this is an older video, but I still return once in a wile, I really like it. Could you please let me know, when you hold keys while changing voices, does it cut, or does it switch seamlessly? Thanks!
Hello There! You will be please to know that the sound you were using before you changed will continue to play when you have changed for as long as the keys or sustain pedal remain depressed, allowing for a seemless change between voices. It doesn't cut out.
@@bonnersmusic thank you so much for confirming! Coming from MOXF, I was contemplating both Genos and Montage, while also being aware of the MODX. Given that I'm not that much into the experimental side of FM synthesis I'm leaning heavily toward Genos now, thanks to you.

Thank you both for a truly great review. Loved the playing BTW, but not my era of music. How about some progressive rock next time? Camel or Caravan maybe?
The problem with Yamaha demonstrations is that we always seem to get someone playing stuff from the 40's, 50's and 60's. Bleeding heck guys can't you come up with music that they keyboard is designed for and that is 80's and 90's etc and more. If anything was to turn me off buying this keyboard it would be the demo of such old music and thus best sticking to a Tyros 1.

It's quite funny to think, there will be a generation of retired home organ enthusiasts banging out house and techno jams whilst the young neighbours say, "what's that old sod up to next door? I wish he'd shut up with his old fashion music on that stupid organ!"
Not everyone likes modern music. I always liked music from the 60s and 70s even though I wasn't around in the 60s and 70 but some of the best music was recorded in the 60s and 70s and there will never be anyone as good as The Beatles.

I get mine tomorrow not happy about the price tho
My Keyboard was just ordered this year 2021 in December. I found out that it was set to the UK time Zone does that mean it was from someone in the UK or was it direct from Factory and are they made in the UK as well as other places.?
Awesome demo. Thanks
Awesome review and demo gentlemen!
Thank you!
I am doubting to buy a CVP 709 or a Genos . This video makes it even more difficult . I think there are more possibilities with the Genos ... But the CVP 709 looks so much better ... What to choose ....
Hi guys,
On the tyros 5 there was a button "recommended" to let the workstation choose a style.
Great sounds on this keyboard where in uk can I buy one from and would it came with speakers for the home
Great video. Is there any way to download this video to view it off line? I have downloaded many utube videos But this one would not down load.
Thanks guys. Three o’clock in the morning Bert Kaempfert is 3/4 time. Orchestra Swing 1and 2 are 4/4 time ??? Plz help 😄

You want to become a millionaire just to buy a 5000$ keyboard? Are you for real? !!!!! .... It costs here in Egypt 95000 EGP. I should be the millionaire, not you. (duh!!)
Me too, why am i not a millionaire😭😭😭
You don’t have to. Just be a thousandierre.
23bobjr what and Where?
I have my new toy now :-) - what Style is Andrew using for the Mantovani part as cant seen to find it!!
If you want to really hear an Instrument go to Bonners. Always show the full range of sounds and possibilities that others leave to your imagination.
Is this better than PSR?
No Podrian Traducir lo que estan Ablando al Español?
Hey guys of Bonners I really want a genos but it's a bit expensive for me. So I would like tyros 5 have you got any in store?
Sound for sound how does this compare to the Montage?
what is that song at 18:57
Can someone tell me the name of the speakers on the keyboard (the yamaha)? I've been looking for those
Show more CFX Grand Piano Voice..plz....plz...
Thanks!
What a pity that no genos arranger module exists.
We have houses full of keyboards, we need portable modules!!
Nice
And the Latin ritms?
Excellent review, thank you. Tony, please show us the Latin styles in the Genos and in the Pa1000, something different from the Bossanova. In TH-cam, no other demo has shown these yet. Try salsa, cumbia, Cuban son, chacha, boleroLento, mambo, tango, AfroCuban jazz, samba, choro, mariachiWaltz, etc. Which styles come in the free Latin Audio Style Pack download? usa.yamaha.com/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/genos/downloads.html
In anticipation, thank you.
does this have chinese instrument sounds?
Great -
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
And the Genos 2 is gonna be better than first generation
Hi” Tony’ & Andrew = I have. Commented to the in the past etc , but I must say , my Main Dislike ‘ is the Freeze “ it holds/ locks sounds ! , making it impossible to suit use with other regs ‘. Etc = 1 very Big important disappointment for a player . Cheers to you both for demo .
To expensive, awesome instrument tough
Beautiful music, beautiful sounds : marvellous !But the musician is alwwayw speakign ! ! ! I prefer playing but NO TALKING !!!
ok
It's quite funny to think, there will be a generation of retired home organ enthusiasts banging out house and techno jams whilst the young neighbours say, "what's that old sod up to next door? I wish he'd shut up with his old fashion music on that stupid organ!"
Wow
This keyboard isn’t just for 90 year olds.
Пенсионные ритмы детектед)
Very low volume
It would be better if you did it yourself alone
how to sound like 1950s cornballs...spare us
Pit is a shame you used all crap styles way old!! Lets do modern stuff
Not everyone likes modern music. I always liked music from the 60s and 70s even
though I wasn't around in the 60s and 70 but some of the best music was recorded
in the 60s and 70s and there will never be anyone as good as The Beatles.
giant cheese machine. no thanks
