    When I first heard about MR4, I was happy Pendulum got its kneecaps broken. I thought it was time for some drill warrior synchro spam, then they told me all Extra Deck monsters needed to go into zones a Link monster pointed to. I don’t have words to describe how much it felt like Konami was forcing players to buy the new cards so that you can play the game. Literally blocked access to your old product unless you buy the new product.

      Kneecapping pendulum didn't stop it from being good in the early Link Era (even before electrumite)

      @@yusheitslv100That’s because pendulum magician was just a good deck for the time, not because pendulum was a strong mechanic.(time pendulumgraph is a crazy card)

      Konami constantly shooting links in the kneecaps because the whole mechanic was a ruling and powerscaling mess is still absolutely hilarious

    Saddest part with gemini is just like trap decks the only way to make them playable is to ignore their mechanic, aka allow them to normal summon an infinite amount of times or special summon with their gemini effect active. Sort of like how lab can set up their traps turn 0 and completely ignore the wait with clock.

    • @LumenFox777
      @LumenFox777 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At least with traps they where just power crept by the game but gemini if I remember where already power crept on release. Like I can imagine really early Yu-Gi-Oh where Normal monsters where the norm they could have been useful but... actually it wasn't as bad they where released in 2007 so looks like GX era but still I think even by that time the game was moving away from just Normal monsters although I don't know what was meta back then. To anybody really wanting Gemini to be good please follow the tiny shoutout Vlad gave and check out Edison Format. Recently someone constructed a Gemini Deck that is actually very very strong. Since it has been found it has had multiple tops in a really short time period so the deck really isn't a meme or anything. It's good. Like, really good.

  • @ashemabahumat4173
    @ashemabahumat4173 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    They need to make spirit handtraps that need a discard of another spirit monster too to declog your hand, have good disruption effects, and that replace the card they discarded. Maybe a restriction on what you can summon afterwards so that it doesn't get too outta hand, otherwise it'll just create a generic engine and get the whole deck theme nerfed in the process

    • @r3zaful
      @r3zaful ปีที่แล้ว

      Spirit monster is the least problematic out of the bunch and can be easily fixed like yosenju, if anything spirit is what I REALLY afraid of since how broken their effect can be in simplified game state.
      Toon and gemini are generally unsalvageable because of the attacking sickness and how slow geminis are.

    Ok, I actually have a good answer for the worst mechanic, although it only appears on one card. It's Parasite Paracide, like have you ever thought about how to shuffle a card into your opponent's deck, face-up, RANDOMLY? The only reason it isn't sitting alongside Victory Dragon on the banlist is because no one has resolved it in a tournament.

  • @AndrewCrimefighter
    @AndrewCrimefighter ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I don't think it would be that hard to make Geminis decent. They aren't normal monsters in the hand so you can just give them a hand effect that can special them out, and then immediately summon them. And even if you have a bunch of extra gemini on your field because you only get 1 normal per turn, that's fine you can just use them for material. Like, if you think about it junk forward is a decent card and it is effectively a vanilla, staple a gemini effect to junk forward and you've def got a playable card. You could also make an archetype that has effects to normal on your opponent's turn like floo so that you can summon gemini on your turn, then actually get the effects on your opponents.

    Hot take but I kinda miss MR4 ruleset. I AM NOT SAYING IT WAS GOOD FOR THE GAME. But managing zones felt way more rewarding. Also I feel like a tonne of decks would naturally be nerfed by this, like kash couldnt do the zone lock with this restriction, decks like SHS couldn't put up a baronne before going full combo even with scarecrow. Tear would still have been broken but you'd probably have to comit a fusion into a cross-sheep or another link 2. Idk just an interesting thought

  • @SilverHyozanryu
    @SilverHyozanryu ปีที่แล้ว +2

    To this day I still don't understand what the point of Geminis was. They're just effect monsters with extra steps. Like atleast spirits have a place in the game and some practicality to their mechanic even if it's not very good. But geminis need you to jump through hoops and all the recent support basically just bypasses the mechanic so what was the point ? They could have atleast given them some broken effects to justify it when they were new.

    • @darkstriker00
      @darkstriker00 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the idea was to improve on normal monsters by giving them the ability to become effect monsters. The problem is they are effect monsters in the deck so they miss out on normal support such as rescue rabbit and the effects they gain are usually subpar.

    • @LumenFox777
      @LumenFox777 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think if the original ones where introduced earlier (keep in mind they already released around the time of cards from GX the best I could tell) they might have had relevance at one time but your right at this point they are way to slow and need to bypass their own mechanic to keep up.

    Had hopes when you said Link Summoning, because it really is shit. No "I need to use only level X monsters" or "Level A and Level B" monsters. It's just simply "Oh, I have 2 monsters, I get a free power up." They did that, it was called tribute summoning.
    MR4 was a good idea because they were trying to slow the game down again. Then they just made Link Summoning excessive, slapped over the top effects on these new free monsters, and just completely ruined what they were trying to do.

  • @renaldyhaen
    @renaldyhaen ปีที่แล้ว

    1. Spirit, this could be good if the "return effect" is mandatory and cannot be negated. Then in hand or GY, they can become a handtraps with cost or requrement around Spirit things in hand, like reveal other Spirit in hand to activate the handtrap effect.
    2. Sorry, but I like this MR4. The reason is because I see Arrow-spell in the anime and it maybe can be an alternative for non-link decks to summon their monster. Beside the "unique" new mechanic, this can equalize the power some decks without killing non-link decks. (Actually, I just don't like it when my opponent set up their full board in my turn 1 play, Teaaaar!)
    3. I don't like Zone block when the blocker is big dude that can beat your LP to 0 and is hard to remove.
    4. Gemini only normal monster in Field or GY, it means they can be an effect in hand or banish zone. They just need new supports around hand and banish effect, like when in the banish zone they can summon itself to field in EP with full effect. Or easy fusion summons from deck to summon Superalloy. But back again, the problem with Gemini isn't their mechanic, but their effect when become effect monsters are completely trash. Even the best Gemini effects like Gigaplant or Il Blud aren't that great. At least they should have effect like Ritual, because ritual now have fairly powerful effect.

    • @copperfield42
      @copperfield42 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      2)that is still bad, under all previous master rules, you could always play your old deck without change regardless of how good or bad and/or competitive it was (banlist aside), even if you include arrow-spell along with MR4 (assuming that doesn't require link monsters like in the anime), you're still forcing players to play with the new cards, and this is even worse because now you need to draw it in order to gain access to the extradeck, and at that point you're better of playing links and either of those options are awful...
      you should never force you player to play with the new thing

    So here's a good test on how broken a card effect has to be on a Gemini monster for people to start playing them.
    How many cards would Gemini summoning them have to make you draw for you to want to play this card?
    Could it say "if this monster is normal summoned (while already on the field) draw 4 cards" would you play it?

    • @Always.Smarter

      Give them flo treatment instead - add bunch of normal summons for cards with gemini type. Some gemini searchers so the deck is more consistent. Also add like a big monster that has BEWD stats before it summoned and an omni-negate when it normal summoned on field.

  • @jaguarnero
    @jaguarnero ปีที่แล้ว +3

    They should make Gemini always considered as normal monsters anywhere until they’re normal summoned. And if they could be “special summoned” while on the field to make them effect monsters, that would be cool. Something like that would be a start.

    • @jaguarnero
      @jaguarnero ปีที่แล้ว

      @@r3zaful anything is better than Gemini.
      I mean they should just make a pendulum archetype that is exclusive to Gemini so that they aren’t inherently bricks. Maybe have like 1 Gemini link monster since they already weirdly have exactly 1 fusion, 1 synchro, and 1 XYZ monster in support already. I mean I think every kind of mechanic has the potential to be really powerful, all it takes is some proper support, and Gemini already have supervise and Gemini spark, and even catalyst field isn’t that bad.

      @jaguarnero ปีที่แล้ว

      @@r3zaful I just wanted to mess around with the idea of it, but here are some card ideas I came up with just now:
      Gemini Elf of Dark
      Spell caster/Gemini/ Pendulum/Effect, Level 4/Scale 1
      [Pendulum effect]
      “if a Gemini monster is tributed from the hand or field, you may draw 1 card (or) if or a Gemini monster is tribute summoned, the monster is summoned as an effect monster with its effects.”
      [ATK 900 / DEF 1900
      [Monster Effect]
      (1) If this card is pendulum summmoned, it is treated as an effect monster with its effects. If this card is summoned, special summon 1 Gemini monster from your hand or GY as an effect monster with its effects.
      (2) Once per turn, you can tribute a Gemini monster from your hand or field: send a monster on your opponents side of the field to the GY.
      You can only activate each effect of “Gemini Elf of Dark” once per turn.
      Gemini Elf of Light
      Spell caster/Gemini/ Pendulum/Effect, Level 4/Scale 10
      [Pendulum effect]
      if you normal summon a Gemini monster, you can, immediately after this effect resolves, special summon a Gemini monster in your hand or graveyard, and treat both monsters as effect monsters with their effects.
      [ATK 1900 / DEF 900]
      [Monster Effect]
      Once per turn, if this card is treated as an effect monster with its effects, you can immediately after this effect resolves: fusion summon a monster using Gemini monsters you control or in your hand.
      You can only activate each effect of “Gemini Elf of Light” once per turn.
      Double Gemini Summon
      [Quick play spell card]
      If you control a Gemini monster, normal summon up to two Gemini monsters from your hand as effect monsters with their effects. You can only activate 1 “Double Gemini Summon” per turn.
      Gemini Combust
      [Quick play spell card]
      Immediately after this effect resolves:
      -tribute up to two Gemini monsters from your hand or field to fusion summon 1 fusion monster from your extra deck.
      -XYZ summon a “Gemini” monster from your extra deck by using Gemini monsters from the field as material.
      -synchro summon a “Gemini” monster by tributing Gemini monsters from your field to the GY.
      -link summon a “Gemini” monster
      -pendulum summon a Gemini monster from your hand or face up extra deck.
      You can only activate 1 “Gemini Combust” per turn.
      Gemini Ignite
      [quick play spell card]
      (1) If you control a Gemini monster: tribute a Gemini monster from your hand or field: add 1 gemini monster from your deck to your hand, then draw 1 card.
      (2) (Quick effect) while this card is in your GY, you can banish this card: target up to 2 monsters on your opponents side of the field: those targets cannot attack this turn and cannot be used as material to summon a monster with a type (fusion/synchro/XYZ/link) that is already on the field.
      You can only activate each effect of “Gemini Ignite” once per turn.
      Gemini Elves of Duality
      Spellcaster / effect / link-2 (bottom left, bottom right) ATK 1400
      (1) If this card is link summoned, after this effect resolves, you can: normal summon 1 Gemini monster from your hand to a zone this card points to.
      (2) If a Gemini monster, or one that mentions “Gemini” in its card text is summoned to a zone this card points to, target 1 monster on the field: negate its effects until the end of this turn and if you do, its ATK and DEF become “0” while on the field. You can only use each effect of “Gemini Elves of Duality” once per turn.
      CloudRay Dragon
      Dragon/Gemini/Effect, Level 8
      [ATK 2600 / DEF 2600]
      (1) If this card is pendulum summoned, it is treated as an effect monster with its effects. If this monster is summoned as an effect monster with its effects: special summon a level 5 or higher Gemini monster from your deck or among your face-up banished cards as an effect monster with its effects.
      (2) you can send a face-up spell card from your side of the field to the GY: destroy 1 monster on your opponents side of the field.
      You can only activate each effect of “CloudRay Dragon” once per turn.
      Gemini Supervision
      [Equip Spell Card]
      This card can only be equipped to a Gemini monster, or one that mentions “Gemini” in their name or card text.
      (1) while equipped to a Gemini monster special summoned from the extra deck: your opponent cannot summon monsters of that type (fusion/synchro/XYZ/link).
      (2) if this card is sent to the graveyard, you can equip this card to a Gemini monster that is treated as a normal monster: after this effect resolves, it is treated as an effect monster with its effects while equipped with this card.
      You can only activate each effect of Gemini Supervision once per turn.
      Gemini Distortion Trap Hole
      [Normal Trap Card]
      If you control a Gemini monster that is treated as a normal monster, you can activate this card from your hand. If a Gemini monster is tributed from the hand or field: all Gemini monsters currently on the field are treated as effect monsters with their effects and monsters your opponent currently control have their effects negated and cannot attack for the rest of the turn. If this card was set before this card was activated, for the rest of this turn, negate the effects of any spell or trap that activates in the same column that this card was set.

    I gotta strongly disagree on MR4. It created a very different game feel and mechanics to play with. Nibiru was *perfect* under MR4. Checked combo decks super hard since you couldn't make a competent monster negate + a link monster that will let you extend under 5 summons. As soon as they opened the floodgates the game became cancer.
    (doesn't help that Spyral was the top deck the second they made MR5 and then we got Halqdon deck after Halqdon deck).
