Yeah the sega, snes wars were amazing it's was Competitive gaming at its best there was no socials and when you were younger and you had a version of a game that looked or played better on whatever machine it was a ticket to boost or to say I've the superior version do times I wish it would go back to them days, I mean we're in a era we're company's sell you a half finished game and it's up to you to patch when said company go live with the patch, basically it was great back then when you nought a game you got what you read on the box, the 9th gen of gaming has been a disaster I'm starting to pick up old consoles like xbox 360,ps3 and so on I want to be able to have a collection of games I can see look and touch, don't like the fact that I own digital code that floats about in cloud storage. Mate I loved what you said about people been passionate to this day about old games, I'm one of them stay safe and well pal and have a super weekend...

SNES port is still my favorite version, but the 32X version is almost as good. Its a nice upgrade visually from the Genesis version. The main visual upgrade was the characters and the sound. The Genesis handled the level backgrounds graphics, which is why they don't look that much different, but the 32X did the character graphics and animations, and the sound effects, i think the Genesis still handled the music though, can't remember. I still prefer the SNES version though, just feels tighter control wise. I never could get super comfortable with the Genesis 6-button controller, maybe that's why. You should try the Saturn version if you get the chance. Only downside is Shang Sung, his transformations pause the game to load in the new character, but there is an option to turn his transformations off in the options. It would be the best home version if not for that one issue. Graphically is pretty much identical to the arcade.

Nice info, I also had both versions and I got the Sega version long after I already had the SNES port and I hardly ever played the Sega port cause it was just so much worse in every way than the SNES port was imo...didn't know there was a Saturn version in going to check it out now! Mk 2 still my favorite MK game, I never got into the third version I hated how they sped everything up and combos and shit 😂 and the characters were lame too.

The SNES version was considered superior to the Genesis version but I like the music on the Genesis regardless and for both Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat II. I think the 32X version brings the graphics to parity you can see with the shadows and Barakas lair with the chains hanging in front. But, don't care what anyone says, Mortal Kombat music is best on SEGA. Nintendos Sony chip is still a synthesizer and where everyone said the chip sounded like real musical instruments, it doesn't, it's incredibly 90s. Squaresoft and Nintendo games sound good on Nintendos console but, Genesis just has that cool punchy deep bass and percussion sounds are awesome.
I have the Super and the Genesis version, wish I had the 32X version, but I still play the Genesis over the SNES game. Mortal Kombat just feels like a SEGA game. Nintendo wanted to be the kiddy console so, let em have it.
Good vid though. I can actually see Blaze on the bridge to Kahn's castle, I always thought it was a guy who got chopped in half and was on fire but, that's Blaze and Liu Kang. NEAT!

Dude, what a time to live in though! It was so much fun! I know the console wars exist today between Xbox and PlayStation but, it's not the same thing. There was something different then where it was more for good sport. Today, it's SAVAGE! The PlayStation and Xbox are too much alike, Xbox just can't grow a pair and be creative and take a chance and Sony let the PS3 get to them too much and wilted like a flower and gave in to pressure but, we got awesome proprietary hardware under Kutaragi, he was called the Jobs of Gaming Hardware..... Not anymore.
But, totally, man! That was an era to live. It was playful competition then but, it was the executives at war, Peter Main and Tom Kalinski were going at it and SEGA of America and Nintendo of America were mortal enemies, they almost literally had physical fights at times. Yeah, man. I hear ya. SEGA's still better, but happy you enjoyed the NES so much. 😉

If you have a capable PC, I highly recommend MK2 Remix. All the secret players are playable (Jade, Smoke, and Noob), and the gameplay is tweaked. For example, combos are allowed kinda like MK Trilogy, but it still feels like MK2 at its core. Also, I remember my dad owning both SNES and Genesis, so I was fortunate enough to play both systems, and later on, getting a PS1 when it dropped. I was also too young to understand the concept of ports, so to me both versions were the same. The 90s was amazing. I wish I could go back.

characters were a bit sharper on 32X, but the backgrounds were a bit closer to the arcade on SNES. I think if Sculptured Software had done the 32X port from the ground up, it probably would've beaten the SNES on everything but some of the music, especially the ending music after defeating Kahn. Cranking that up on some really good speakers sounds awesome. Probe didn't even do a version of that for 32X. Throw that in with the ending screens & I think that gives the SNES the win, also because it has about 10 key sound effects (Sub-Zero's ice, Kitana's fan lift, Reptile's force ball & Kintaro's roar for example) Probe forgot to put on the 32X version. And SNES also leaves blood & bones on the ground after fatalities but they disappear on 32X. I wonder if Probe was incompetent, lazy or both

The 32X version of MK2 was decent. It played better than the SNES version, but was hampered by the fact that they relied too much on the Genesis hardware versus making the game from scratch for the 32X. This was a huge problem with almost all the 32X games. They were either slight upgrades or in some cases worse. Had it come out a few years earlier it would have been different, but it came out at a time when better consoles were available making it obsolete at launch.

Such a much better version than the Genesis with about 40 more sound effects (but still 8-10 that the SNES has that 32X doesn't like Sub-Zero's ice, Reptile's force ball, Kitana's fan lift & Kintaro's roar), arcade accurate colors on characters, arcade perfect "Choose Your Fighter" screen, the opening screens, Goro's Lair added in, arcade perfect life bars, somewhat better looking backgrounds & things like Scorpion's fire fatality looking more arcade accurate. I think if they had put in the ending screens like the SNES had, it definitely would've edged out the SNES version in overall content. The added in sound effects are definitely arcade perfect though & not compressed like the SNES ones mostly were. Both versions are great since they play so good. SNES definitely had a great rendition of the ending music after defeating Khan. Probe forgot to even make a version. Big oversight

The 32X was closer to the arcade than the SNES as far as name bars, the pillars in the Portal and the monks floating up and down. As far as sound and music the SNES was closest to the arcade. The 32X still had some murky color distribution and was missing sprite frame animations and had the "jail bar" effect on screens like the Genesis port. The problem with the 32X was it still relied on the Genesis to display it's HUDs and backgrounds. That's why the characters look good being rendered by the 32X in 32bit color(32,768 total/256 simultaneous color not really 32-bit(actually 15-bit (same as SNES) while Genesis palette is 9-bit at 512 total/64 simultaneous) but the backgrounds look scabby with their Genesis color limitation. They should have never released the 32X/Sega CD and just released the Saturn with 6meg ram and focused on Midway/Capcom/Konami etc. arcade ports. The Saturn is a 2D powerhouse especially with more ram(aka 4 meg ram cart) and deserved many sprite scaling arcade ports it never got. It's pack in game should have been OutRunners or Virtua Racing 2 or Racing Hero not Virtua Fighter. Where was Golden Axe? TMNT Arcade? Streets Of Rage? Cadillacs And Dinosaurs? Run And Gun Basketball? Galaxy Force 3 with a lengthy convoluted story mode written by me? Someone find me a time machine so I can be the president of Sega!!

I owned the Sega Genesis and Sega 32X versions of Mortal Kombat 2, and must say I was rather disappointed at the 32X version of the game. Main reason being was that I remembered the 32X version of the game was advertised as "Bringing the arcade version home".
