I played the living hell out of this game. I had a Strat Guide that was extremely detailed and informative. It covered everything for both the PSOne and the N64 versions. The guide even had pics of each fatality, etc. shown frame-by-frame. My favorite was always the Brutality. They were a bitch to pull off, but it was always quite enjoyable watching your character beat the living snot out of your opponent until he exploded. Both versions had Chamelion as a hidden character, but the PSOne's version was a male and his name was spelled differently. Now, the PSOne made out like a bandit when it came to the character, but the N64 had one thing going for them: zero loading time.

Back in the day I owned MKT on the PS1 and loved the classic fighters you can switch to. I rented the N64 version a few times to experience the reduced load times, Star Pit, and the female Khameleon secret fighter. The PS1 version had the male Chameleon. The N64 version however did not have the classic versions of some fighters which was a bummer but still, was a fun romp. What a great time for MK fans.
Oh yeah it was fun for sure. My memories of the game were all the PS1 version, I enjoy seeing the differences now having tried the N64 version. I’d still like to get a copy of the PS1 version eventually.

We had Trilogy on PS1, I never had the guts to increase the AI difficulty or go for the champion tower. I'm not sure if it's the same on N64 but I was watching someone else beat champion tower on very hard difficulty. What is so ridiculous about it is the AI is programmed to counter your hits so trying to beat your opponent without using gimmicks, cheese, exploits or whatever you want to call them is really hard. What is even more ridiculous than that is that the first endurance round you see on champion tower you have to beat 5 opponents twice instead of your usual 2 opponents. The second endurance is goro + kintaro fight.
Ahh what you’re talking about is the PS1, I managed to beat the champion tower after this play through (I will post the video tomorrow) and the first endurance match after Motaro on N64 is just two characters. Thank goodness. Thank you for the comment 👊🏼
This is probably the oldest trick in the book, but whenever I played this game on N64, I could cheese Motaro and Shao Khan to death with Sheeva, purely by spamming her teleport stomp move. It's a slow, awkward move, but they'll just stand there and block it because they can, and it eventually gets them killed. Virtually risk-free.
I didn’t even think of trying that, if I jump on again though I’ll have to try that, at least with Motaro. Shao is definitely easier than Motaro in this version.
Im amazed how well cropped your video is considering your recording off a TV screen. Very nicely done! Oh and playing on Easy is the way to go LOL. This game was BALLS HARD.
Thank you, I started adjusting some exposure settings on the camera to try and crisp things up a little bit and it’s worked well in recent videos, I’ll have to give this game another go. Thanks for the comment 👊🏼
I forgot which character you use or if it’s any character you can use, but before you start the wasteland level, there’s a certain code you can put in and your character will become mentaro, or however you spell his name
If I were to pick up my N64 and play a game by myself, it would usually be this one. Not because it's the best game, but because I'm not gonna go through hours of playing mario to beat it again, and Smash Bros is only fun when playing friends. This game at least still has most of the original characters with the same special moves, so I don't have to learn much. But it's also moving towards the "combo" era of fighting games, rather than the special moves and the jumping kicks and leg sweeps. I was never a big combo type person, so i got my arse kicked in Killer Instinct.
Thanks for the comment 👊🏼 You may think Killer Instinct is all about the combos but regular moves I find do way more damage on their own, almost like strong chip damage, makes trying to pull off long combos almost pointless other then they look cool. As for MK Trilogy being a quick pick up and play game I agree. 👊🏼
I need to practice a bit and adjust the exposure or contrast next time I play this if I plan to record it lol thanks for the comment though I appreciate it 👊🏼

When you turned on the console, there was a screen that said only one controller was detected. To activate the Player 2 port, both controllers must be plugged in before turning on the console.
Awesome video brother, i was 13 when this launched in 1996 i bought this on my N64 still my favorite MK game. I don’t think younger gamers realized this was $74.99 lol but worth every penny. Subbed
Thanks Boss, and yeah it was pricey but the game was complete, whereas nowadays these games are released before they’re even finished, causing a million updates and add ons and micro transactions that end up costing a bunch if you wanna keep playing the game as intended. We grew up in a great time for video games. Thanks for the comment 🙏🏽
I owned this game as a kid. What I've learned is that you can't start combos in the air on the female ninjas unless you're a male ninja or another female ninja. Hence why you couldn't combo Kitana from the air as Johnny Cage, which you could do if you were, let's say, Scorpion. I'm assuming the reason for that is due to wonky hit boxes
Noob is such a broken character. Jump punch into (I think) hp, hp, lp, hk, teleport, uppercut. 52% combo. At least on the snes version. I’d assume it’d work here, too.
The smoothest version of MK Trilogy. The N64 resembled the closest to an arcade version of MK Trilogy. Only missing a couple character selections compared to the PS version like Kintaro and Goro. But if you want all the characters and then some, build a Mugen version of 2D MKs.
I have been playing MKT on the N64 since day one. I never played it on the Playstation until recently. I finally decided to pick it up. I was excited (key word,"WAS.") As soon as I got home, I popped it into my PS4, and the first thing that came out of my mouth was "WTF IS THIS!?" I gave it a shot but couldn't. I know the PS1 version has more to the game, but more doesn't make it better. I can't play it. I'm going to keep it, I just can't play it. The N64 version is better.
I think the loading time ruins it. If they crammed all that into the N64 version it would’ve been even better, however it’s still great regardless. Thanks for the comment 👊🏼
@@tabsntoot except the PS1/Saturn versions are better than the N64. The N64 version was missing quite a bit. So I’ll repeat myself. This version could have benefitted from the expansion ram.
Dude i remember near the beginning it said something like "you only have one controller plugged in, for two player restart the console with 2 controllers plugged in". I dont remember that being i thing in any other n64 game, much less any other console at the time.
Also you can glitch the game with sheeva on the Boss charters on the tower just use her jump move on final boss and you will win every time he will just block and u will chip damage him to nothing
I had this game on Nintendo DS and never got past the 4th or 5th rung. One of the most frustrating games I've ever played, but at least it came with puzzle kombat. Mortal Kombat + Dr. Mario = Shang Fun.
Funny Cage! Sub-Zero in MKT on N64 had both unmasked and masked Sub's moves. They took out unmasked Sub during development. Not enough space for characters.
@@BushyStallion I did once. When it came out. I didn’t understand it so I turned it off. Now that I’m older, I get it. The N64 version of the game was awful IMO
@@flowrepins6663 Very few people know that Mortal Kombat it’s just based on the movie big trouble in Little China, and a lot of Van Damme stuff. Interesting to see how you can get around the copyright just by changing the names. Look at the cover for Contra on the NES that’s Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren I think.
That is the ONLY drawback. Nintendo was stupid to burn bridges with Sony then, because the sound chip is where it shines for SNES. THAT's how you got crisp sound from SNES.
I suppose tapping forward twice or backwards twice on the new game is KIND of like running maybe? Regardless, I still love these older versions. Thanks for the comment my friend 👊🏼

Love your videos dude, keep up the excellent work buddy 👍
Thanks Tommy I appreciate it 🙏🏽
Nice video man! It’s been many years since I played this version. Now I gotta play it. Lol
Thanks MEL 👊🏼
Up up down down left left right right
C up, C right, C down, A, B, B, B, A, A
I owned this game as a kid.
Great tips 👊🏼
Noob is such a broken character. Jump punch into (I think) hp, hp, lp, hk, teleport, uppercut. 52% combo. At least on the snes version. I’d assume it’d work here, too.
Yea, we used to ban Noob from our MK tournaments as kids lol.
The smoothest version of MK Trilogy. The N64 resembled the closest to an arcade version of MK Trilogy. Only missing a couple character selections compared to the PS version like Kintaro and Goro.
But if you want all the characters and then some, build a Mugen version of 2D MKs.
The first MK I ever played! When I was like 6 years old hahah the nostalgia
Gotta love the nostalgia 👊🏼
This game could have benefitted from the expansion ram. What could have been.
I doubt a 2d fighter game needed extra memory on a 100 mhz console it’s far the best version out the lot anyway and it’s on a chip not a disc
@@tabsntoot except the PS1/Saturn versions are better than the N64. The N64 version was missing quite a bit. So I’ll repeat myself. This version could have benefitted from the expansion ram.
Absolutely…Especially if it was released back then (the expansion port that is), or if MK Trilogy was released around mid-1997 or so.
Dude i remember near the beginning it said something like "you only have one controller plugged in, for two player restart the console with 2 controllers plugged in". I dont remember that being i thing in any other n64 game, much less any other console at the time.
This is a good port minus a few characters missing. The N64 controller was brutal to get the hang of. 😅
I found it pretty tough to get used to also 👊🏼
Noob Saibot's combo: Teleport =>Uppercut
If you managed to catch your opponent, you would have just enough time for the follow up
As much as I suck in this game this is the best MK game to date
Good play through but man Kitana give Johnny Cage the fatality twice on easy mode was BRUTAL 🤣🤣🤣
so they just combined both sub-zeros into one mega one because they ran out of space.
Also you can glitch the game with sheeva on the Boss charters on the tower just use her jump move on final boss and you will win every time he will just block and u will chip damage him to nothing
It would be cool if A1U made a trilogy arcade cabinet
It would be interesting the version that they’d choose to emulate.
I had this game on Nintendo DS and never got past the 4th or 5th rung. One of the most frustrating games I've ever played, but at least it came with puzzle kombat. Mortal Kombat + Dr. Mario = Shang Fun.
Oh wow I remember that version. I saw it here last week in mint condition for 60 bucks. I might just pick it up lol thanks for the comment
Had this on the ps1. My all time.fave MK
Right on. I also had it on PS1 👊🏼
it sucks that they removed the female decapitated head from the pit in mkt as it appeared in the first game in the arcades
You pay attention to detail, I had no idea they cut that. Good comment 👊🏼
If I would have gotten Babality novice by the cpu, I would have retired for good.
My favorite character this game 🎮 ❤️ 💙 scorpion 🦂
It's very appropriate that you got Kid Thunder'd...haha
Damn Raiden or I mean, Rayden.
I had this game on sega Saturn
Also, what's your thoughts on the spin off mk games like Special Forces and Sub Zero Mythologies
I loved Mythologies on PS1 however I’m curious how much I’d like it now, Special Forces I’ve never tried.
Funny Cage! Sub-Zero in MKT on N64 had both unmasked and masked Sub's moves. They took out unmasked Sub during development. Not enough space for characters.
Makes sense, makes him a ridiculously strong character.
@@BushyStallion there is an mkt beta rom out there where mk3 sub is in the game
I would love a mk with everybody from 9 through mk1 they’d never happen though
Only MUGEN versions have these characters all together and many many more.
Looking forward to the MK Trilogy N64 playthrough on the CRT.
Good call, I’ll have to get on that 👊🏼
@@BushyStallion that sounds rad! Would love to see the Cemetery stage on MK trilogy, my favorite stage.
Hi, you can turn the combo off and so the game's got mk2 style
Collision boxes turns on the hotboxes so you can see where your contact is made.
It’s an interesting cheat, I don’t think I’ve ever used it 👊🏼
@@BushyStallion I did once. When it came out. I didn’t understand it so I turned it off. Now that I’m older, I get it. The N64 version of the game was awful IMO
You can do an uppercut right after landing a teleport slam with noob.
.jwoof
Good to know, for when I revisit this version again. Thanks dude 👊🏼
You can do it on all versions afaik.
The glory days
MK3 is like SF2 with tons of remakes
But very inovative for its time
Yup
@@flowrepins6663 Very few people know that Mortal Kombat it’s just based on the movie big trouble in Little China, and a lot of Van Damme stuff. Interesting to see how you can get around the copyright just by changing the names. Look at the cover for Contra on the NES that’s Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren I think.
IIRC, the Green Question Mark doesn't require a code to unlock. It's only the Blue and Red ones that do.
Ahh ok. Good to know 👊🏼
Already, the audio on N64 port of MK Trilogy sounds inferior to the super Nintendo version of the original MK3.
That is the ONLY drawback. Nintendo was stupid to burn bridges with Sony then, because the sound chip is where it shines for SNES. THAT's how you got crisp sound from SNES.
Ajax? I'm in Pickering.
Good evening Neighbor lol 👊🏼
I love the PS1 version of MK Trilogy
Man this brings me back 😮sometimes i definitely miss the run mechanic 💯💪
I suppose tapping forward twice or backwards twice on the new game is KIND of like running maybe? Regardless, I still love these older versions. Thanks for the comment my friend 👊🏼
@BushyStallion appreciate you bro 💪💯
Darryl, you are like a Greek God 🏆😂🙏
Thank you? Lol I appreciate the comment 👊🏼
Its an awesome version as well!!! I think you should try the Mortal Kombat 2 Remix. Its jaw dropping how polished and well made is. You should definitely give it a look.
I’d like to try it I’ve seen it in other videos. May have to jump on the computer and try it. Or maybe I have it on my RetroPie I’m not sure. Thanks for the recommendation though 👊🏼
Best 2d mk game ever but the PS1 version even with all its bugs was the best N64 ran way smoother was the character selection ever I wish they would remaster the PS1 version without the bugs
Buggy with loading was or is maddening but easily the best console port.
Gotta add it back into the collection at some point just for kicks.
I just wondered because it's hard for me to tell. What TV output do you use for N64? Composite, s video, RGB?
Another great video!
Thank you 👊🏼
Had this on ps1. Amazing video
I still do. 👍
Thanks, Darryl!! 👍👍
I still have my silver slim PS2 along with quite a few games!
I remember playing this on PS1
After playing this version I gotta say I remember liking the PS version more.
I like this version, it feels like your playing an Arcade edition of a Mortal Kombat game.😄
I used to love to hold down and press start on kano and do the champion endurance ladder and then at the end select mega endurance combat. super tough though, especially since the first character you fight Khameleon first. could you attempt to make a video doing this?
I actually did this not long ago, I used a CRT TV also for nostalgic sake. It was tough as hell but I persevered 👊🏼
You made me just want to buy this game and surprisingly found one for $25 😮😮
Thank you!! 😈
Excellent! Good find dude have fun revisiting the Trilogy 👊🏼
@@BushyStallion thank you! also definitely had to sub to you! You have Great content and brings back so many memories 🤝🏽🔥
Omg I play this before I love mortal Kombat trilogy that is the best game I had play it multiple time and mortal Kombat trilogy was the best game that I play for Nintendo 64 I love that game so much😁😄
@@BushyStallion no not really I couldn't get there power I try my best to beat it because it wasn't easy for me to beat it and Nintendo 64 mortal Kombat trilogy game was kind hard for me to play it I try my best but it was kind hard to beat it lol
Wow, I forgot how great this game looks, been watching so much of the older console versions lol. 🍻
What I didn't like about the N64 version is that it had limited cartridge space. PS1 had all the characters because the CD could hold more
Yea. Despite it's longer loading times, the PS1 was definitely the superior version. Better graphics, better music, more characters, more content. I'll take a slightly longer load time any day of the week.
@@MZ-zu7wk
I had an N64 but when I bought a PS2 I got to play the PS1 version.
To be honest mortal Kombat II was my favorite one out of the three
I wish they would have stayed with the dripping blood on the Fatality card after MK2.
@@meztizo_americano86 Yea, I owned the N64 version and I had no idea about all the extras on Playstation. I didn't even play the PS1 version until I was a young teenager, but I could never go back after that. Oh, and I absolutely agree. I think MK2 is the best in the series. That game is such a classic!
@@MZ-zu7wkit’s hardly slight
I hear ya, although the loading time really seems to turn people off nowadays. I appreciate the comment 👊🏼
21:35 yes, Noob turns into an anteater
Definitely the best port.
I wouldn’t say best, but I loved we had no load times. I was always bummed out I couldn’t play as Kintaro 😢
On PC, you can buy the GOG version that has all the features of the PS1/Saturn version without the awful load times.
Can you get some friends over to play trilogy on person? It'd be great to see some trilogy action, being it the decisive arcade version. If you can, I mean. Great video!
This is a good idea I’m sure I could in the future 👊🏼
Dude, I always changed the buttons to have block and run on the shoulder buttons like we are used to. Don’t play with the default config. 💪🏼
17:32 Do it again….. NOOOB Saibot…. 18:01 🤣
Try harder... Try again!
Can’t stop saying it while playing lol even reading this comment I’m saying it now 👊🏼
45 minutes Gah damn. You think i don't have a life and can sit here and watch this lol.. Nah jk. Keep em coming. Love the vids as usual. Living my nostalgia needs thru all ya'll arcade1up fools is great.
😂😂 I wouldn’t watch it all either so I hear ya lol thanks for the support and comment my friend 👊🏼
You can make a combo using "Niuuuuuub Saibot". When he appear behind the fighter and grab from behind.
Do that grab + uppercat before the enemy touch the ground.
He rebound and receive uppercat while Is in the air.
I Remember this on SNES
