I had an Amiga, so I played that version of MK1. Except for the loading times, I liked it. I only had a one-button joystick, but I found it fairly easy to pull off the special moves and fatalities. Unlike fighting games on other systems. "To throw a fireball, just roll the stick in a 3/4 circle toward the opponent while pressing HP+HK+MP, wait 1/2 a second, then press LP+Lk+MP." Oh yeah, couldn't be simpler...

The thing about the MIDI soundtrack on the DOS version of MK2 is that it sounds very different depending on what you play it back on. If you're using the default AdLib rendition on a Sound Blaster then yeah, it'll sound very tinny and weak. It's how most people would've experienced it back in the day and it's why MIDI tends to have such a bad reputation. However if you use a good General MIDI synthesizer like a Roland Sound Canvas which MK2 supports, then the MIDI soundtrack really comes alive and starts sounding very close to arcade quality. DOSBox does support Sound Canvas emulation, so although it requires a bit of configuration fiddling, you can get some really good music out of MK2 with it.

The pit 3 and the rooftop are in the SNES version of UMK3 but you see it only when fighting Shao Khan and Motaro. In 2 player mode they're normal backgrounds, they even included the pit 3 fatality. SNES has 7 and Megadrive has 11 backgrounds.

UMK3 port for the SNES (and maybe for the Genesis too) was actually the same MK3 port. That's why they reused sprites like Sonya friendship or Kitana using Kabal's fatality. You can choose "accidentally" Sheeva using stealth and random select because only her sprites were erased. Most notably you can still use the code for unlocking Robot Smoke at the start of the game and it will work (showing Smoke entering the screen) even when Smoke is now playable from the get go.

Amiga's version of MK2 do had a lot of loading because of 1MB of RAM most of people had. On 2MB Amiga's some additional stuff is pre-loaded into RAM so fatalities are no longer loaded, some additional voices are present and effects like smoke coming out of opponent hit by fireball. The game supports Amigas with expanded RAM, so if you have enough to load all disks into RAM, it will do it.
