a story my dad told me. He was forward recovery with these. A Flamethrower got stuck in a minefield. He had to go in to recover it or destroy it as it was a secret weapon. The only place to safely drive into the minefield was to drive in the tracks left by the stricken tank. However he couldn't see the tracks through the slit. His mate got out and walked backwards into the minefield hand signalling left right to get my dad to stay in the tracks left by the damaged tank. (The mines were anti tank mines so someone walking wouldn't set them off). Very scary.
It might be worth mentioning that the approach of a Churchill AVRE with its "Flying Dustbin" mortar also often prompted the surrender of bunker occupants without having to fire at them. I've always thought that like the MkIV tanks of WWI, the Churchill looked like some kind of mechanical monster rather than simply a machine. Perhaps there's something about it that stirs our primal fears ?
The technique during the advance into Germany was when approaching a town, if any fire was encountered from buildings, the AVRE would come forward followed by a Crocodile. The AVRE would blow a big hole in the building and then Croc would flame it. Normally, the white flags would come out before the Croc fired.
Another problem would also be the fact that the British used petroleum jelly as a fuel source and would behave similarly to napalm but much more watery would seep into the small nooks and crannies setting anything it touched on fire 🔥

Did you know that maus was meant to have flamethrower? If you look at back of turret there's filled hole where was meant to lead pipe from flamethrower magazine that was outside, to actual weapon inside. Idea was later dropped tho
I think I read somewhere that Hitler saw reports about this tank as the alternate evil, evil calling something evil. He then ordered his engineers to develop the equivalent.
I am trying to build this tank in a game and i would need to know for accuracy that where was the flamethrower located? Was it at the turret or at the front of the hull?

Probably because the British and American forces in Korea preferred dropping napalm instead, both used it on the Chinese and North Korean armies with brutal effectiveness. Some flamethrowers were used, but many times they opted for the more easy, air-dropped destruction option.

Crocodile crews that were captured were NEVER taken prisoner, they were shot on the spot.
My Father was with the 7th Tanks 'C' squadron and drove one of these in Korea, they never used the flame thrower, and were used as normal tanks,

I would not want to be a POW caught using sniper rifles or flame throwers.
They did not do this tank justice in BFV the range of the flamethrower is not good. It should have 120 meters range and shoot like a fire hose.

If a well placed HE shell struck the trailer - would it cause a massive explosion?
The lower third titles over the archive footage of the Crocodile is kind of annoying and obstructive.
