    The watcher may be more of a symbiotic/parasitic organism, where its gaze coerces other Europan creatures to bring it food, or maybe become the food themselves for chemosynthesis or normal heterotrophy. The watcher may compel other creatures to attack humans in an attempt to help the watcher feed, or may simply be unable to stop them and is trying to bring humans into the symbiosis and/or feed on them, but is unable due to incompatible biology.

      The mystery is complicated by the Others - whoever it is that left the ancient ruins.
      Perhaps the Watcher is a form of Other biotechnology: a mobile sentry and camera.
      We'd need more information to know for sure.

      I believe it helps bolster the strength of other creatures in the prospect it may be able to pick up the scraps of the resulting conflict

      I believe it manipulates the wildlife around it as another defense mechanism. They will never attack any creature around it, perhaps it could scavenge whatever the enthralled creatures bring back. It’s listed to be extremely curious and just watches humans, never really attacking.

      well their curiosity has caused them to get blasted to death by my sub's hybrid ammo rounds around 6 times now, mostly due to me finding a nearby ruin of all places, maybe their connected in some way? for all I know it could be pure dumb LUCK

    I like to think that the watcher's main predator is the latcher, since the latcher possesses the perfect mouth to consume the soft eye and whatever is inside of the body while avoiding the spikes (unlike what would happen with an endworm for example)

    • @frederick0709
      @frederick0709 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      That with it's ability to shoot it's teeth would probably help to break down it's shell much like like a moloch and consume it's possibly fleshy interior just like most crustaceans or sea creatures that eat shellfish as part of their regular diet.

  • @bigdredwun1928
    @bigdredwun1928 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    My head Canon for watchers is that they consume ambient radiation. They metabolise it with minerals and sea water, and the concentrated radiation that drives you insane is just a happy by product of the metabolic process. The acid sprays would be the waste by product

    • @bigdredwun1928
      @bigdredwun1928 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Now that I think about it actually that would explain how the seas remain habitable in spite of the jovian radiation.

    I'm telling you now, the watchers are some sort of hl2 advisor type shit. You often see crawlers circling and following it but not attacking it, and it's been almost established that crawlers are the de-evolved alien race. Either that or they are alien robots, and the gaze is them communicating with other watchers. I am almost certain it's one of these.

    • @Dzombic_
      @Dzombic_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Crawler has developed arms, distinct headparts, and can be infected with husk parasite like humans can. This suggests somewhat similar biology.
      Any proof? Nah. But it seems like a reasonable theory.

    It was suggested elsewhere that Watchers are bio constructs of the ancients used to observe the eye of Europa and collect data on it. It’s explains why they are so particularly interested in the human anomaly.

    For reproduction: it could be that they reproduce like sponges, sea cucumbers and other types of marine invertebrates by releasing eggs and sperms in hope that they'll meet as they float trough the ocean. Another potential method is that they do the same but meet togheter in a specific area where the eggs and sperm will meet more easily, this is the method used by salmons but also eels and a type of... worm like creature that i dont know the name of here on earth.

    I know I'm a year late. I haven't even played Barotrauma, I'm just curious about it's lore. But something that always fills my cold, dead heart with joy is when a less-known creator makes something successful and gets a boost in popularity as a result, and then takes their time to thank their new fans. It's something so earnest and beautiful, and yet all I can think to say is "Well, what did you expect? If you build it, they will come."
