As a private pilot, I was flying a C172 over a danger area (just factories processing dangerous materials), but to ATC I misspoke and said I was at "3000 feet heading 090 to the danger zone" (it's called area, not zone). And the ATC controller paused for a while, before he said "... just to AFIRM, are you flying on a highway to the danger zone?". Made my day. Love it when controllers joke around a little!
I was on the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) when this was filmed and stationed at Miramar when it came out - the lines of women trying to get into the O club on Miramar stretched down the highway. It was a once in a lifetime moment in California/Miramar in the 80's. FLY NAVY

My grandfather was the original Maverick and it was based off his daredevil of a life when they actually opened up the school in ‘62. He flew up to the year he died and trained me to fly. I would have flown but after 9/11 no one would let me join the navy for fear of attack. So he was the reason I joined the Army and became a Ranger. Fly high grandfather keep my angel babies safe until I get there. RIP I LOVE YOU. LOVE YOUR GRANDSON!!

This moment isn’t in the audio version-it feels like the video editor did it intentionally to heighten the intensity. It’s such a subtle, yet powerful detail that makes the scene hit even harder!
Gotta admit, this brings back memories of the 1980s. Not only is it a great song in its' own right, but it harkens back to that spirit of renewed patriotism and respect for military service that characterized that magnificent decade. Wish we could go back!!

Kevin Finegan What upset me is that he shouldn't have died, his ejector seat and canopy release malfunctioned. On a Tomcat, the canopy blasts backwards and the seats launch to either side to avoid such accidents. In the movie, both the canopy and Goose's seat launched vertically.

As a guy from the Netherlands born in '94 I can say this movie left a deep impression on me. Used to watch it with my dad and always had the highly unrealistic dream of becoming a navy pilot (which for the record I am not, but still haha). Still get the chills when watching F14's take off or when hearing these theme songs!

Mike Gonzalez also there are spikes on the seats just incase there is such a malfunction, breaking the canopy as the seat goes up.
Maybe a strongly worded email to the writers/producers/directors of that film should sort that out for you.

Maverick wouldn’t have been a true Top Gun movie/sequel without this song. Perfect way to introduce the new movie was having the original intro open it up. Than certainly don't listen to Cheap Trick's Might Wings on a night drive - IMO the better of the two (also in Top Gun btw but less famous). It has the same power sound, a catchy tune to sing along that sticks in your head and to open up the throttle and imagine your car have wings.

As a guy from the Netherlands born in '94 I can say this movie left a deep impression on me. Used to watch it with my dad and always had the highly unrealistic dream of becoming a navy pilot (which for the record I am not, but still haha). Still get the chills when watching F14's take off or when hearing these theme songs!
