Great series on one of the truly great Gottlieb ems. It’s still hard for me to get my head around how Gottlieb were Kings of the World from 1947-1977, but then literally fell off a cliff when the solid state era began. ….kind of fitting though in a way. They remain King of all em pinball machines, and they’ll keep this reputation forever. Looking forward to that Shipmates.
Just imagine how many people played this game in its day. tens of thousands maybe. Now many more can have fun again thanks to you Ron. Many thanks for all you do for us with our own games! Cheers from Canada.
Thanks Ronnie for another video. You're making me miss my El Dorado, but I still have a Volley & a High Hand. I'm a fool for a gottlieb drop target game! I think I actually play them more than my SS's and DMD's combined. It's probably a nostalgia thing... cause I'm ooold! 😉✌️BTW, I just finished watching you paint that Flight 2000 playfield for the 2nd time, and can't believe what an awesome job you did! 👍👍
Another Great Video Ron !!!! Dammit !!! You made go pull my Target Alpha out , I am now going through it !! I just rebuilt the player unit and servicing everything in the backbox first then I'll move to the motor board and playfield.
That machine is great! When I played with relay logic made out of old elevator controllers, process got Very loud when a lot had to happen at once. At first you'd swear it's going to destroy itself completely. But hours later it's working better then it was.
You had a lot to work through on this one Ron, great detective work across all the videos. EMs stealing points due to the scoring motor already in motion, etc is annoying but I guess it's also the nostalgia of these old EMs. My Outer Space stole 5k on the Vari target from me just yesterday because it was in the middle of scoring a 500 pt target hit. With the EOB scoring factored in that was actually a 10,000 loss of points. Talk about frustrating.
I enjoy all of these videos. I stopped in at this store a week or so ago (as I was in the area). Pretty cool location with many games apparently under repair etc onsite.
After watching all your video's on fixing "Target Alpha's" , I sure wish you were closer to New Mexico where I'm at, so you could fix mine, (or I was closer to N Carolina). There is absolutely no one in my state that works on EM's that I can find. I guess that's one of the things about living in a low population state. But hey, the mountains and weather are great.
We had a Target Alpha in my college game room back-inna-day, but it didn't get much play because it competed with such greats as Capt. Fantastic, Old Chicago, Wizard, Odds and Evens, and the great, original Fireball. How's a machine with only two pops and 15 targets supposed to compete with those greats? It sat on the rightmost end of a row of really great machines! I did play it from time to time though, even though it was my least favorite game. Still brings back memories, though, and I'm glad these are being preserved, since most people have different taste than I do!
@@LyonsArcade Haha well we wouldn't know about one of ya, but if the other brothers are any guidance you've got some darn talented surgeons down there. They really know how to look across that color wheel and tone things down. (I learned this technique from some shady clock repairman on TH-cam) 😆 Anyway, saw that video and shrieked like a little girl to my wife: "That's Joe and Ron! Wait... That would have to be a customer and Joe!" Still not sure. 😉
JOE, That score motor chart motor 4A switch and motor 4D switch is like an EITHER OR condition. You either get the 4A switch with 5 pulses or either you get the 4D switch with One long pulse. It looks like its an OR condition or its a "carry over". What I'm saying is if the ball hits or rolls over switch 4A you get the bonus unit to pulse 5X times if the ball hits or rolls over the switch 4D then you get the bonus unit a long pulse?
What a cool game. How did I never hear about this one? I thought it looked like it would be an easy game. Watching you play, I was wrong. Kind of a fast playfield. Those strong flippers can be murder if you hit close targets. The comes back at you fast. Cool video
Hey Nate. In the first video there was an issue that the shooter rod was either off kilter or the frame was warped. What did you do to fix that issue and make it so you could shoot the ball normally?
The cabinet was sitting 'racked' a little bit, if you move the cabinet around sometimes when it's sitting on the ground, it's not square. If you lift the front legs off the ground it kind of rights itself, then when you sit it back down it's square. We put a new rubber shooter tip on it that helped too.
Great job Ronnie on adjusting and firming up "Target Alpha" (I was going to just use the initials of the game name {just being lazy} until I realized what that would be 😮). For the problem with the mail lady not talking to you. Just impress her with the fact that you are the most Famous, and Talented (use any other words that you like) person of all of the Internet along the best manicure hands (please be wearing some gloves at the time to help the story). If questioned about your stardom, maybe after some time omit its on TH-cam, after more time say in Rock Hill, SC and at last but not least say if you're not the top channel in your area/family, you have a very close relative (younger bro) who does 😀 On a different note: Will that "pretty" lady Cheeseburger 🐮ever get her own channel? She could instruct people had to provide helpful info when being interview on camera and other public speaking. Just like when you questioned her about the fire on the farm. By the way I am totally joking with the above. Nice work on the Pinball machine, I love seeing EM machines getting fixed. Just a friendly and silly viewer almost 600 miles north and a tad to the east of your store.
Are you anywhere near Oak Island???!!!???? Tell them they're digging in the wrong spot, it's like ten feet EAST, hello. Thanks for watching rrowan327, we appreciate it buddy! See you on the next video!
To help you out, Australia is that large country south of China north of Antartica. New Zealand is that small country sth east of Aus, Not to be confused with Tasmania. (He He, sorry couldnt resist ) . Luv your vids 😊😊
Alright I took the bait and did a TH-cam search for country shuffle. Never heard that term before but was familiar with some of the music. My favorite country music is performed by rock musicians haha. I'll post a link below to one of my favorite country albums by John Fogerty of CCR, check it out if you haven't heard it : )
Here's a couple country shuffles for you so you can hear what I mean: th-cam.com/video/rKhAtqxcbn8/w-d-xo.html - Rodney Crowell I couldn't leave you if I tried Listen to the bassline and how it walks around, same thing going on with the piano too th-cam.com/video/srHaT1-KN54/w-d-xo.html - Ray Price Crazy Arms & Heartaches By the Number Ray's kind of the king of the country shuffle ------------------------------------------------------------------ You even hear a similar thing going on in some Rock music from back in the day... th-cam.com/video/lWWZSu4e5cI/w-d-xo.html - Elvis - Little Sister Mainly it's the bassline, the way the drums work, and you can dance to it
I played one of these last weekend at TPF. It had the same issue that probably 50% of the games had. Limp…Duck flippers. Takes all the enjoyment out of a game.
Some machines are very fair and have good play and don't go down the out ramps on the side. But most seem to more often send the ball right down the center or out the sides. I wonder if they have designed them like that or if it is pure chance. I should keep track of the ones that have good play and don't steal the ball all the time
Ok, possibly a bad question and if you ignore it no offense taken (seriously): How much do the schematics cost? I don't fix pinball machines but I'm used to having to pay $100 for a nice fat service manual for beautiful but horribly complicated pro video equipment. But when the cost of a manual kills a project that I'm not the only one working on, it dose no one any good where expensive parts with a mark-up would have been bought. But I pay my respects to the good engineers with the cash money, especially if it keeps parts being made.
Now come on now you haven't heard of one of Aus legend country music singers from around alphas targets era. Slim Dusty with one of his all time greats "The pub with no Beer"and of the Tamworth Country Music Festival.Well now your in tune sir fellow Silver Baller.
Love your videos. When you make me wait more than a couple days for a new one, I get anxious. Your Pinball repair videos are the best for me. Some of the others are ok (not as much interest in the video games. One comment, just tell once per video series that I should buy the schematics from pinball resource. Every vid (sometimes twice) is a bit monotonous.
Thnker100, consider why I mention in every video where to buy the schematics that the company has mentioned they will sue you for making copies of. There could perhaps be a reason I mention that before I show a copy of the schematics, couldn't there? If you don't like that I mention something you don't have to watch the videos, you claim you enjoy them but can't deal with me mentioning a legal issue so I don't get sued?
The 80's and 90's pinball machines are boring, in my opinion, compared to the 60's and 70's ones. I mean the ones that have the rails that drop your ball in the flipper lane
I find early 80s machines fascinating. And a tad more accurate. You hit 2 drop targets at once and get points for both if it's working correctly. As convoluted and interesting as this one kept score and added bonuses, this was how Gottlieb was trying to keep up with Williams and Bally while they developed solid state games. As open as the play field is underneath its a mess of switches and solenoids working in conjunction with each other.
This why kids and adults love pinball, everyone can play but it takes perseverance to be great. Thanks
As a rock hill native coming to your store for ps2 and Nintendo games, I am estates that you have a TH-cam channel!!!! Subscribed instantly!!!
Thanks for showing my cd. I really appreciate that.

We've got the best viewers!
Thank you for making my favorite T.V. show.
Thank you for watching Seth!
Yea - finally all working!! EM machines are the best!!
Very fun!

Glad you could bring this one back to life.

Even the Closed Captioning spells it "Gottlib" (5:30 vid). You've got it trained well.

I STILL love drop targets, even after 5 episodes! 😂
Hey, I uploaded a 6 second video on my channel about your shop, Ron! 😉
That's footage from back before we had our plastic surgery

Yeah, another great video. Twenty Aussie dollars is about $13 USA bucks. Still, a very generous gift from Mark. I'll check his music out.

Part of playing pinball , is to bump the table to control the ball, without tilting. Takes control but improves high scores ;)
I have this in my living room . Fab machine. 👌
Makes me want to find an old broken pinball machine to restore! :D
You can do it!

Where’s the dartboard on the wall?!?! You can’t change things! 🤪
That machine is very similar ro the Royal Flush machine we had when I was a kid. I'd bet that it's basically the same machine under the hood.
