This gimbal is partnered with Filmic Pro so all the buttons on the gimbal relate to the settings with FilmicPro. When in stand-by mode, you don’t have to worry about re-setting the camera settings on the phone as Smooth4 has your back!
Good job, I picked up my Smooth 4 (white!) today and watched a ton of videos to learn the features. But there are so many they get missed. I didn’t find the zoom until you showed me! Plus a few others! A tip: I noticed in many of your clips in the video, the camera moves in a jerky fashion. You tend to jerk the gimbal around (see where you show the GoPro vs lock). Remember the main purpose of a gimbal is a steady shot during hand-held filming that mechanically absorbs and forgives some of your own errors. So let the gimbal stabilizing function do its job, and as the camera man, support that by keeping your own motion still and give the device as little to forgive as you can; stay at the same height while walking (when you lift up and down and up and down during these shots it cancels the steady cam effect); and generally, move with graceful sweeps and a quiet physicality, whether moving fast or slow. This will allow the stabilizer the least interference as it tries to do what it was made to do - maintain a stable, steady camera image that holds your attention in the story, and lets you forget there even is a camera. You, too, are a human gimbal, the other half of a graceful dancing duo. I look forward to hearing back - practice and post some shots of your improved technique, I predict you’ll see a difference right away!

Two issues: You can't see or use the screen; the pitch access motor will have to work extra hard because of the thickness of the GoPro compared to a smartphone, so that motor could burn out more quickly, unless you balance it.
great idea about mounting gopro, only issue is you cant see the screen anymore. This can be a problem if you are filming a walking video as is the trend today. Using the cheap ebay mount is far better.
Nice review! I kinda wish you'd go more into using it with the GoPro as I'm deciding if I should go with this or the feiyu G6. How did the videos come out with the GoPro? Was it hard to get to the buttons while filming?

I was considering this, I have a Smooth Q which is more basic, now I’m thinking it may not be necessary to upgrade as you’ve indicated that you use the iPhone controls and settings more than the zhiyun app. I use both and also filmic pro. FP seems to have more control, but I don’t use that so often as the iPhone because of the battery usage on the other apps. Would you say in real world terms that the upgrade tools/app are not used as much as the basics? Thank you

Yes it does come in handy that way. One Gimbal for both devices. However it can be a little awkward because you have to hold a backward but definitely does get the job done, and done well
i read that the smooth q had a selfie mode that can swing the gopro where u can hold it normally but the 4 doesn't have selfie mode. can u use the buttons to rotate it manually?
Thanks for a very nice review! i am not good at pfhoto but trying to learn and i have an question for you, this one seems pretty cheap as gimbals go and the dual function is nice, my question is do you know if you can mount this in any way to when you ride a motorbike or vespa for riding shots? chest mount or handlebar? it is just the stabilization im after in that case. i think there is one Zhiyun that you can detach the head-gimbal and mount on the chest for a go pro, but that is aa diffrent price range. keep up the good work i appriciate your informative films!
Great gimbal but do you really still need a gimbal with the hero6? ... i use the fusion grip with the hero6 and i like it a lot...very stable combo imho...but for smartphone's it looks great! Is it also a little bit compatible with Filmic Pro?

It works decently With a go pro but if you are primarily going to be using only go pro I would recommend a go pro only gimbal such as the feiyutech g6 It just works a lot better. If you want one that will work with a smart phone and a go pro then this is a good choice

You’d need a phone running ZY play app to control the motion part of the time lapse. Of course that phone doesn’t have to be attached to the gimbal! So you can set up the shot and then hit start on the time lapse (go pro) and then start on the phone to start the motion.

When I use zhiyun Smooth4, the light on it usually turns from blue to pink, and then suddenly drops down in the process of shooting. I don't know whether it is in sleep mode or not. Even though the stabilizer is falling down, the buttons are still working every time. This often happens especially to interfere with filming. I don't know if anyone has had that experience and know how to fix it?
I believe in those cases its not balanced right and is putting undue stress on the motors and battery life and does that. It use to do that to me until I figured out my stupidity and forgot to balance the camera before turning it on. Now this was a smart phone and not a gopro. The GoPro doesn't balance perfectly anyway, but still have to make sure its setup the best you can before turning on.
I am using zhiyun 3 axis gimbal. When I record video with this gimbal video will be jerked... Video couldn't record smoothly. Without gimbals video will record very smoothly.... Tell me the solution.

at first I was very excited but when I tried it with my Samsung galaxy note 9 everything went wrong, the Bluetooth was disconnected all the time and the Android application is not how the Apple, I am sad because I love that gimbal and all the construction but I can't use it
Two major issues with this (bough it the other day) - no 360 degree, and no ability to roll - all shots have to be perfectly level, not angled. That is a step backwards from the Smooth Q.

It works even with the cheaper model Zhiun and all you need is the plastic cap from a soda bottle to hold it in place

You mounted your phone in the gimbal incorrectly. Just flip it over.

with Gopro its better to attach with the Gopro cover and add AA battery to balance it to perfection.

It is designed for phones only. You can only clip a Gopro onto the holder and let the 3-axle gyro does it job.

I own one. Very good but it does not work with all phone . Not everyone is an I phone fan or can afford one. I will be using it for my go pro soon
