So I revisit this most sublime performance 15 years later, and it is still aweinspiring. I was there that night, brought by my boyfriend despite me not being a huge operafan. It was my first baroque opera and after the first hour I was ready to flee. I did not and my life became better for it (and I got to keep my boyfriend to this day too). It is a long opera, but time does not matter after this aria. It is quite simply the most beautiful performance I have ever listened to. To see and hear it here again, it brings me back to that night. After a terrible year, listening to this brings back some hope for better times ahead.
Andreas Scholl's has a superb counter-tenor voice. The singers' magnificent voice has the intensity of precision of intonation. Handel's Baroque melody and the counter-tenor radiate magic, electrifying p music, perfect and sublime.
OMG!!! That "Aure" (1:53-2:09).....the entire DVD set is extraordinary...the cast is magnificent...but this man is beyond incredible. Bravo Herr Scholl! Get the DVD. You won't be disappointed.
It is exceptional for such vocal beauty to be matched by beauty of face, but the final reclining image of Andreas is evocative of the famous effigy of the knight Guidarello Guidarelli in Ravenna, which was kissed so much, it has to be protected!
Handel didnt use counter-tenors if he didnt have a castrati he would use the female vocal equivalent. Andreas Scholls voice is amazing and leaves most counter-tenors 'in the shade'. He is a wonderful all round performer, he has it all, acting, presence and a truely beautiful and powerful voice.
I am buying this DVD as an necessary antidote to the horrific, live production I saw at Opera Colorado where the casting for the male roles, the setting, staging, and direction were absolute disasters. What are these "professionals" thinking???
Well . he's been in a terrible battle, and has jumped out of the window of the palace and is now presumed dead. He has been wandering around for a while now, and this is quite badly served.
According to his own unreserved statement(in an interview for Russian TV and in German and in his own hometown) he separated from his wife and daughter in 2009
Worse: They set Giulio Cesare in 1930s Hollywood with spotlights shining into my eyes in the audience. Cleopatra was a sleezy film star. The male lead was played by a huge women in a red uniform who arrived on stage on a carboard tank. The countertenor who played Ptolemy could not sing. A sweet girl played the enraged son seeking vengence.
i don't find a reason for using these clothes and these modern scenario: all seems fake and absurd; scholl sings wonderful but the director seems crazy and kills haendel
❤Wonderful performance ! - thank you so much.
Andreas Scholl for ever. He touch my soul singing Handel ❤️

Exquisite.
Merci pour ce partage, Haendel toujours...bravo à Monsieur Scholl
Andreas was born on the stage...
BRAVO ANDREAS!!!
i consider myself fortunate to have heard him sing this last summer in a concert. he is just divine!

Mil aplausos para Andreas!! Una voz plena, llena de sensibilidad e inspiradora!
That sustain at 1:54 took my breath away the first time I heard it. This makes two times this guy's made me almost gasp aloud.

Parfaite interprétation, tant sur le plan technique que sur le plan sensible. Et que dire du gigantissime Haendel, maître absolu des émotions.
Yes, a vey capable rendition of this piece, so much depth. A pleasure to listen to. Thanks for the the upload.
Eine schöne stimme.¨!!!!!!!
it is wonderful, that dvd, and he is so lovely :)
Excellent!
Совершенство!
...wow he's amazing...
❤yes , he IS !
Très beau !
Ah ! Et première fois que je vois Andreas sans lunettes
Bravo! I can infinitely revise this video.
Wow, and I thought the Iraq setting was bad! Thank God for Scholl!
Brilliant ...
La perfection...
Andreas is Great but he seemed to have a cold when singing that night :(
Still I love to see him and handel's music is the best ever .
It's great to hear this sung by a counter-tenor. I think this is how Handel would have wanted it. I've heard this many times but usually in contralto.

thx for posting

Ha! I wish *I* sounded that good when I have a cold!
Well . he's been in a terrible battle, and has jumped out of the window of the palace and is now presumed dead. He has been wandering around for a while now, and this is quite badly served.
Он простужен здесь, но поет все равно отлично. Умница
Is this Giulio Cesare in DVD??? i search in amazon but i dint find it =S PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
:-) I have no idea what his epithet should be or will be, but I propose "Voce del Angelo," as a sort of balance to Ruffo's "Voce del Leone."
Is that the one with a play on the Iraq War? Or is it something worse than that?
He looks like a mixture of Christopher Walken and Rick Mercer!
According to his own unreserved statement(in an interview for Russian TV and in German and in his own hometown) he separated from his wife and daughter in 2009
But now he is married
to Tamar Halperin and has
another daughter .
♡
Pt. And I am buying also this new Giulio Cesare soon to be out to help erase from my memory that Colorado "Giulio Cesare" abomination.

But you witnessed
Andreas Scholl in this
performance. Forget the
rest . . . . ♡
No reason to be offensive :-D
poor haendel! and poor scholl!
i don't find a reason for using these clothes and these modern scenario: all seems fake and absurd; scholl sings wonderful but the director seems crazy and kills haendel
why must he sing kneeling and with this painful clothes? wonderful singer but stupid director
Cannot be bested!
