The role was originally sung by the castrato Giovanni Carestini (1700-1760).

I have discovered Jaroussky only recently, so I´m not biased by his fame. I think his technique is rather excellent, I don´t think it lacks the elegant touch of the period. Pronunciation is not perfect, true. (I´m Spanish but speak Italian)

Superb musical line and greatly professional performance...it is unique to hear a male perform such a heavy vocal piece...I am just wondering if using his male normal tone would sound better...a definite sucess either way.

Yes, they do trills too.
Demofonte is not a "reform" opera, since as you might know the first "reform" opera is from 1762. This aria is full of the most exquisite Belcanto elements, and you maybe hear "galante" or "manhaim" elements which aren't classical yet and not "reformed". This aria could have easily been written by Hasse, or Graun, or Jommelli. And when I speak about "parts" i mean "periods" in Gluck's life and work style.
It sounds as if the vibrato is a bit more pronounced. The technique is the same as when a woman makes a trill. Cecilia Bartoli, for example, makes excellent trills, Jaroussky should sound the same. But keep in mind that trills are very difficult!
Cecilia Bartoli's trills are rapid fire! It is amazing that she can do that.
Where do all these videos from Jaroussky's recording sessions come from? Is there a commercially available DVD?
It's actually not a falsetto. Jaroussky is a counter tenor, a rare type of singer who can sing in the alto and soprano ranges. For those more acquainted with popular music, think Michael Jackson. The effect used to be obtained artificially by castrating prepubescent boys, known as castrati.
Jaroussky's technique is far from perfect. I would say it's pretty decent, but could use some work especially in releasing neck and shoulder tension.
But he sounds absolutely divine to me, so I'm not going to complain about it :P.

Your tag should really read "Galante" or "Pre-classical" rather than "Baroque". Gluck broke rather radically with the conventions of Baroque Opera (as practiced by his rival J. A. Hasse)
you are not wrong, for some reason, here he lacks perfection in control. The notes seem to end without a closing. I saw other interpretation and was falwless. I may be because of the audio. Of course, I'm only reffering to 'some' of the runs. Anyway he's a cutie pie.

Gluck is a more articulated figure.I'd suggest you to update your knowledge, and being so young as you are I am sure you'll have time to read more. Meanwhile, enjoy Gluck as a Belcanto AND Reformed composer... or as you like! hahah Ciao. :)

And, word to the wise, it's no part of any woman's duty to the world that she conforms to their expectations of appearance, especially when she's busy doing more important stuff.
