    The speed limit for ambulances in Japan is set by law at 80 km/h on ordinary roads and 100 km/h on highways, but that speed is extremely rare due to Japan's narrow streets and chronic hospital shortages.
    The automatic voice from the ambulances is intended to alert you to right and left turns.

    Why is it so slow? According to a former EMT from Japan, I summed up the following reasons:
    1. There are legal limits on the speed of ambulances in Japan. The normal road is 80km/h and the highway is 100km/h.
    2. For example, If the patient has a fracture, an unstable movement may make the condition worse.
    3. Because ambulances are very heavy and most roads in Japan are narrow, in order to avoid the sudden braking at high speed.
    4. An unstable movement may influence the analysis of AED.
    5. The EMT will determine the patient's condition in the ambulance and then go to the corresponding hospital, so as to reduce the waste of medical resources.(Hospitals may reject patients, so they may be on the way to another hospital)

    Nice one!
    The ambulance at 3:50 is actually from the Kumamoto University Hospital (熊本大学病院), not the Fire Department

    People that don't know that this is an ambulance, probably first thought that it was an Japanese Ice cream van!😂😂

    It's amazing how cultural circumstances can alter your taste in EVERYTHING. As an American, the Japanese ambulances, sirens, and overall way of going about an emergency response just looks ridiculous! And I'm sure they feel the same about us! Thanks for the perspective!

    Awesome video but god forbid I ever need medical attention in Japan. Looks like it would take them forever to get there!

      Perhaps these are not priority calls. Or maybe they are a secondary unit dispatched as a back up. That’s why they had a code 2 response. But I would agree, by the first looks of things, it would be faster to fly back to the United States and get medical treatment here versus calling the Japanese emergency number for an ambulance.

    4:06 what are the announcements saying?

    • @Rummeltobi
      @Rummeltobi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      "Attention, the ambulance is turning left" or something like that. That's a standard thing on Japanese ambulances. Whenever lights & sirens are activated and they use the turn signal their automatic PA announcements warn drivers which way they go.
